Ambiguity is fine. It would tedious to the point of distraction to enforce writing math without ambiguity. You make note of conventions and you are meant to realize that is just a convention. I’m amazed at the people who are planting their feet to fight for something that what they were taught in third grade as if the world stopped there.

You’re right though. We should definitely teach different conventions. But then what would facebook do for engagement?

awk will always have a soft spot for me, but I can see why not many take the time to learn it. It tends to be needed right there at the border of problem complexity where you are probably better using a full-fledged scripting tool.

But learning awk is great for that “now you’re thinking in pipes” ah-hah moment.

And honestly, don’t knock it til you rock it. Not saying I routinely pour a highball of the stuff, but a small amount is surprisingly smooth. It’s no grosser than a white russian imo.

It’s the only way this meme makes sense. It’s a complaint that humans don’t like the average of the temperates that produce the feelings of extreme hot and extreme cold. You’d have to change math, change physiology, or lose linearity.

Nice choice. Try to stick to the standard repository, kinda like the Play store on android.

I believe Mint tries to have minimal dependence on the command line. But usually it’s easier to help others solve problems with the command line since that is easier to write out than how to click through menus. So don’t let it scare you too much.

The internet is a friendlier place now, at least in the linux help-o-sphere. People don’t let others post destructive “lessons” for people to learn anymore.

That was comment I wrote in a thread about distro recommendations. I think it provides a context in which CL has a clear advantage over GUI.

Look at that photo. It’s such a small part, but he posed for a great photo. I only notice as an adult who has tried to take a photo of kids. Man, they don’t know how to “smile naturally” or take any direction. Then this kid nails “smile like you like me against my wishes” or whatever direction was given.

The post never said that the side hustle was subpar. I did undergrad at a middling university and a mediocre sports, and I did grad school at a good school with a top tier basketball team.

To me, it seems the point of the post is that it is telling that there is a correlation. A well-funded university has a well-funded sports team. It sometimes feels the other way around with a well-funded sports team providing a well-funded school. Advocates of college sports actually tout that as feature.

It is so deeply rooted in our culture that I don’t even wear my alma mater hoodie because I don’t follow basketball. Sports is the only reason why anyone would that apparel, I guess.

Yes, please. I’m still using MessagEase. I want to like thumbkey, but it’s missing a few features that are already implemented in MessagEase. Long pressing for numerals is another feature I miss.
