Amazing. Thanks. Seems like you could divert most of the air into a secondary silencer chamber. That way only a “small” amount of air interacts with the reed. I’m not a gun guy though. I’m more here for the clown noises.

Do you honestly think they’re “completely missing the point”? Read the meme. There’s no mention of gitea. Self-hosting git is nothing to wiggle your tie over. Maybe setting up the things you are talking about are, but git?

The sun is about 1000 times the mass of Jupiter. You’re off a decimal place.

Edit: That in and of itself is a quotable fact. The real number rounds to 1053. So it’s about 5% off. It’s a meaningless coincidence.

Better ones include that our moon can produce both total and annular eclipses, and (geometrically) all the other planets fit between the earth and moon, but not by much.

The proportion is about 0.998, and the parent post had it at 0.9998. You move the decimal point by adding 9s. There was one too many. It was off by a decimal place.

Whether you would call that “off by decimal place” or not, it is certainly larger than being off by “a tenth of a percent”. That would mean the error bars of number 0.9998 ± 10% [edit: oops, did i miss a decimal place there. i’ll leave it] would just close the gap.

I like the proportion of the smear, aka, the whole point of your post. I never heard it in those terms. It reminds me of the one where if the earth were a basketball, the moon would be a tennis ball about 9 feet away. I’ll calc out the percent errors if anyone cares.

Yeah, come to think of it, “moving the decimal” is wrong too. There must be a term for moving the decimal in the “one minus x” complement.

It was stupid to use a kids show as an example. That episode aired in 2002. Only a small slice of people born 1980 to 2000 would care.

The other examples had an audience with a much wider age range.

I’ll note the Bic brand is not refillable. Look for a little port on the bottom. I’ve seen some at Ace hardware.

How do people deal with getting older when the hottest girls are out of your age range.

There are certain qualities a man needs to consistently attract hot women. Age does not matter as much as one would think. It certainly doesn’t matter in a way that is fair to women.

So as the hottest girls leave my age range, I don’t much think about it. I’m turning 40 this year, and I’m worrying about how old I’ll be at my kids’ graduations not what any 20-somethings think about old man me.

I don’t know why you see it as an error. It’s the format of the meme. The guy in the middle is right, the guy on the left is wrong. That’s just how this meme works. But the punchline in this meme format is the the guy on the right agrees with the wrong guy in an unexpected way. I’m with the guy on the right and no appeals to Schröder–Bernstein theorem is going to change my mind.

I’m super confused. It seems most of this conversation misses the meme format. Everyone is agreeing with the middle guy. That’s how the meme works. The middle guy is right, but that’s not the point. It’s like I’m taking crazy pills.

While I wish I didn’t just learn this meme’s far-right origins, I have to disagree with you. The middle guy is supposed to give a correct and boring answer. The left guy is supposed to give a common and wrong answer, and the guy on the right is supposed to have an enlightened view of the wrong guy’s answer. The best example I’ve seen is the one:

  • [wrong] Frankenstein is the monster.
  • [average] No, Frankenstein is the doctor.
  • [enlightened] Frankenstein is the monster.

It’s still wrong to say Frankenstein was the monster. It’s deliberately misleading. So yeah, the money is the same amount, but I’d rather have a secret endless stash of hundreds than singles.

If you take the average interpretation of “police can’t …” to mean “it’s illegal for the police to …”, then yes, the average guy is right in a boring (and tautological) way. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable way for the average person to interpret the [average] line. The meme hopes to get you thinking about the last line.

Now this money example is particularly hard to argue since if you have the interpretation that the dollar will collapse, or if you think you have to store this money, then, all resolutions suck.

If a genie were to say to me, “Anytime you need money, you can reach in your pocket and pull out a bill. Would you like it to always be $1 or always be $100?”, I think I would agree with the enlightened guy here, even though I know the boring answer is right.

Dr. Frankenstein is not a monster for creating an actual monster. He is a monster for abandoning his creation and escaping the responsibility of care for his creation.

I confused though. You seem to think I didn’t quite get the format, but I feel I’ve explained how I see it, and don’t see any contrast with the meme you posted. So far that’s three in the format as I understand it.

So, if your answer to the genie question I asked a bit ago is “$100s please”, then the meme would speak to you. If you truly don’t care, the guy on right is wrong in your book. I’m in the “$100s please” camp.
