I feel like avoiding them or waiting might end up with a situation where some group of humans causes irreversible harm because they think they know better.

Once enough deliberation has been done and we’re ready to act in good faith, we should probably make contact and set a good precedent quickly. Maybe then we can guide future interactions in a more positive way?

otter,

Does the order get shuffled each time?

otter,

Yea I’m pretty sure this is what OP heard about, it’s a common tidbit that gets shared

Ownership wasn’t secret then, and it’s not secret now. What happened then was that they bought transit things and shut them down. That COULD happen now too, but it would happen pretty publicly

They do lobby governments though

Anyone else feels like they want to destroy their old sim and never give their contact to anyone ever again?

If signal gets the new username feature, this just might be what i do, so fricking tired of people just blindly giving random apps and websites their contact permissions and they get my contact as well, and there’s nothing i can do about it

otter,

Oh I didn’t realize that was you. Hopefully they knock it off soon 😄

otter,

Well, there aren’t any working toilets anymore

Maybe this will help with the smell

otter,

Just to add on, the Do not redeem sir was probably a reference to a viral Kitboga video where a giftcard scammer gets very… agitated with the prank

otter, (edited )

do an AMA, sockpuppeting as someone else

otter,

It doesn’t have to be current news, I was thinking any events might work

I’m also trying to keep this open to see if it affects community growth, open to seeing what people want to do

otter,

Historical sounds good too, it might be easier and in better taste too

The example post was from the early days of Reddit

otter,

Sorry the post was unclear, I just clarified. Doodling on a napkin was an example of post format, to show that it doesn’t need to be very detailed :)

otter,

What are napkins but unstitched socks

Best place to buy replacement parts for a laptop?

I’ve got a Dell G3 3579 that’s in a dire need of a battery and a bottom panel replacement. I’ve thought of buying them off aliexpress, but I’m a bit skeptical of it… So ig my question is whether it’s OK to buy stuff like replacement laptop batteries off aliexpress....

otter,

Yea Dell machines can refuse third party batteries even if they’re physically identical

It’s worth checking for that

Low effort posts

Ask Lemmy is a place to ask thought provoking questions. The mods have been lenient with some of the recent posts on the basis that they must provoke thought for some people, but after seeing two posts essentially saying “what do you think of my stick?”, I believe we can raise the bar a bit on what kind of thoughts we want...

otter,

I usually use NoStupidQuestions as the catch all for when I don’t have something better. We have a few communities for that

otter,

How does this process work, and can it be abused?

Since the torrent file is small and doesn’t contain all the data in the file itself. Can you download a file, modify it maliciously, then seed that?

otter,

Thanks!

otter,

This might be fun, but I feel like my recommendations go in circles

It might be a game to just escape the circle

Question about Android. Is there a way to replace the system file manager on non-rooted devices?

When you need to upload a photo to a photo hosting site through a browser, the system file manager opens. When choosing a photo for editing, this also happens through the file manager built into Android. Is there a way to force applications to open my preferred file manager instead of the system one?

otter, (edited )

You should probably ask this on !askandroid

This isn’t the community for specific personal questions

otter,

Could it be a buggy controller or remote?

otter,

For some reason I read reserve like a national resource reserve (ex. Gold, fuel, helium) rather than conservation area

Had me confused
