Android is the only phone OS I can use due to the available diabetes apps (AndroidAPS, xDrip), so I can’t really switch to anything else. Pixel phones are really good. I try to avoid YouTube as much as I can, use Fastmail for emails and SearXNG for search. Maybe I’m… mid?

AndroidAPS is an artificial pancreas. They are not legal yet, or there are a few commercial ones with inferior features compared to this software and which are very expensive. The software reads your glucose from your upper arm using a sensor, and either gives you insulin or stops the delivery based on the estimate.

It connects to many different glucose sensors and pumps, provides a common interface and algorithms for them.

It is the research platform for commercial software to come. It is extremely helpful for Type 1 diabetics. Because it does not have approval as a medical software you cannot distribute binaries. You can legally compile it from sources, which is why it is for Android where you can easily sideload apps compared to the competing platforms.

xDrip is a tool that connects many different glucose sensors and gives you real time info about your levels. It enables continuous measurements with systems such as Freestyle Libre, which was only working with NFC officially.

The open source diabetes scene is quite popular in Germany. It has made our lives with T1 much easier.

Yeah. All of the tools have been there for years. The German health insurance pays for the pumps and sensors, but there hasn’t been manufacturers opening up their Bluetooth protocols and allowing to connect with non-authorized devices, except for the past few years. Manufacturers, such as the Korean Dana Diabecare, or the American Dexcom are pretty relaxed with 3rd party apps. If you get the right hardware, you can definitely make your life much easier as a diabetic.

It’s interesting to see how Cyberpunk 2077 is actually selling really well still. Looks like it worked out well for CDPR eventually.

Is there any high quality versions of The Second Arrangement available? I thought they gave up on that.

Such a good song still. If I would be that engineer who destroyed the original… Damn what a thing to carry.

pimeys,
@pimeys@lemmy.nauk.io avatar

All of these are so good. And of course the Adventure Time including the new gender bender spinoff.

The Wire and The Bear are so easy to rewatch and kind of similar…

What is still missing from these replies: Hannibal was almost better than The Silence of the Lambs. And Mads Mikkelsen might’ve been a better Hannibal than Hopkins…

Zinc just when it starts. These candies you let to dissolve in your mouth. One every two hours when the first symptoms start and if lucky, the next day the symptoms are gone.

In US they sell them with the brand name Cold-Eeze, and similar products are available in some EU countries but not in all of them.

Oh, and a lot of tea.

Yep. I had a very bad cough years ago, and couldn’t sleep. My doctor asked if I’m interested in homeopathy. I laughed so hard that I started coughing really violently, and walked home with a codeine prescription that helped me over that flu.

Scream is so funny because it makes fun of this aspect of the movies…

pimeys,
@pimeys@lemmy.nauk.io avatar

Me and my partner never really watched any horror movies, and now, when nearing our 40’s, we’ve been watching at least one classic every day. So far the best have been Scream, Color Out of Space and Aliens. So many to watch still before the month ends.

Scream was very funny and scary.

pimeys,
@pimeys@lemmy.nauk.io avatar

Not yet. The next two movies are going to be Evil Dead and It Follows, maybe after?

pimeys,
@pimeys@lemmy.nauk.io avatar

Evil Dead was amazing. Very nicely done for the low budget. Watching the two others and maybe the recent TV series too after this.

The Ring is waiting in the queue.

39 and I don’t even have a driver’s license…

pimeys,
@pimeys@lemmy.nauk.io avatar

Yep. Here in Berlin traveling to my old office (when I didn’t work from home all the time) with the S or U-bahn took 30-35 minutes and by car/taxi about 40-45 minutes due to the traffic.

pimeys,
@pimeys@lemmy.nauk.io avatar

Oh god. That was me last week. Waking up to “think about things” at 3am, staying awake until six and waking up at eight. I have no tolerance for days like this, I felt like absolute shit.

pimeys,
@pimeys@lemmy.nauk.io avatar

Not a movie, but The Owl House was quite gay…

pimeys,
@pimeys@lemmy.nauk.io avatar

Mine too. Luckily we got Fionna and Cake last month. That one is really good too.

I need to rewatch it soon. One of the best animated series of the modern times, right next to Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Dead End, Close Enough, Amphibia, BoJack, Infinity Train, Kipo, Vox Machina, Smiling Friends and YOLO.

What a time to be alive… When I was a kiddo, the best stuff came from Japan, and now the Americans are really nailing it.

CHROME (google) is planing to implement DRM (kinda) into their browser (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

looks like rendering adblockers extensions obsolete with manifest-v3 was not enough so now they try to implement DRM into the browser giving the ability to any website to refuse traffic to you if you don’t run a complaint browser ( cough…firefox )...

A good project to support would be the Ladybird.

You can support by joining the project and helping them to fix issues. It’s a young project, but they’ve been progressing really fast. Andreas Kling is one of the original developers of Safari, and in the past years he’s been creating his own operating system (Serenity OS) and formed a team who’ve been doing their own JavaScript engine, web browser and a programming language together with the OS. It’s a really fascinating story and I give all the respect for them for doing this. This is the work we have to do if we want to beat Google from taking the internet. It’s us who need to step up and start fixing the internet.

Do you have some good podcast recommendations on Barry Lyndon? I really like the movie. For people who are reading this and thinking Barry Lyndon is some kind of super boring and high-minded art movie, just watch it. If you appreciate photography, pictures in general, the movie is done really well. It’s like watching live paintings from that era, nothing else looks like that movie.

Edit: And what is fascinating with Barry, is how the actor Leon Vitali who did Lord Bullingdon in the movie, just abandoned his acting career and started working as an assistant for Kubrick until his death in 2022.
