There are multiple options with Orgmode clients. For a webview Filestash supports Orgmode, but there are also some dedicated options I think.

Privacy Concerns on Lemmy: A Call for More User Control (github.com)

I’ve been grappling with a concern that I believe many of us share: the lack of privacy controls on Lemmy. As it stands, our profiles are public, and all our posts and comments are visible to anyone who cares to look. I don’t even care about privacy all that much, but this level of transparency feels to me akin to sharing my...

Given the state Lemmy is in (barely functional with loads of papercuts) and the barebones developer funding it has (barely above minimum wage), these honestly feel like low priority “nice to have” features for a software that is meant for public forums.

Seems like I dodged a bullet by recently deciding for another company. Definitely on my permanent do-not-buy list now, thanks for letting us know that you do not want any customers, Haier 😑

Should i host LinguaCafe or are there better alternatives?

Hi, I just noticed the existence of LinguaCafe and i really like the idea. So I searched up their website and saw that they are still in early developement. I’d like to learn italian and that is currently an experimental language. So im wondering if there is a better service avaiable right now....

Well, the main purpose of this seems to be an eBook reader that integrates language learning and translation.

Its a good idea, but few language learners start out with a backlog of foreign language texts that they would like to read.

The exception would be your typical manga/light novel weebo, and this seems to be precisely what this is developed for with the Japanese language tools included.

For those wondering why there isn’t a link…

Seems like a decent idea if you have ebooks in the language you are interested to learn.

Bitcoin is an entirely different thing, it’s really comparing apples with oranges.

No, you misunderstood what GNU Taler is.

It is a digital cash standard for existing currencies and banks. It’s not even the same category as Bitcoin.

The problem is Opnsense, as the BSD kernel used is doing single thread network routing. So the APU can saturate 1gbit with multiple connections/threads or if you switch to a firewall with a Linux kernel like OpenWRT.

That said, a N100 probably does have enough single thread performance to do 1.2 Gbit. Not sure about the full 2.5gbit though.

The f-droid version should be ok for now, but if you installed this from the malware distribution channel aka the Playstore I would recommend to deinstall them before the next update hits.

I met the main developer at the CCC congress two days ago, and we talked about it a bit. The problem is that he is only a backend developer, and the front ends for Friendica are a really old and messy codebase.

I think the best option for Friendica would be to fork one of the available alternative front ends for Mastodon and adapt it for the additional functionality of Friendica. But they need a frontend dev to help out with that.

Looks like they are playing Frets On Fire 🤣

The Telegram client available on F-droid does not use FCM for push notifications.

Also WhatsApp requests access to the phone book and is very hard to use if you deny access. This is very likely done because Facebook wants access to the stored numbers to build a social graph. Even if you personally don’t mind, it is a gross privacy violation to share the phone number of other people with Facebook.

By typing in the numbers, or selectively sharing them from the address book. This works fine on Signal, Telegram and Threema. Only Whatsapp makes it so that you have to share your entire address book with the app.

With some workarounds you can actually use whatsapp also without giving it access to your address book, which shows that it is clearly an intentional dark pattern by Facebook to make people share their entire address book with them to avoid the hassle.

Whatsapp is under the hood still a lightly modified XMPP system, and given Zucks recent comments about federated protocols (albright in a Threads i.e. ActivityPub context), they might just get their XMPP federation working again.

I think the telemetry is only for the Flutter developer tools, not the apps themselves that you create with them.

What modes of transport do you really like?

For me personally, trams are right up there. Aside from the main issue of sharing the roads instead of having a dedicated line, they really make it easy to get from one part of a city to another, especially for wheelchair users. They’re usually as frequent as buses, but much faster. The stations are much more attractive...

Sleeper trains… nice combination of convenient overnight travel with the hostel experience of talking with fellow travelers.
