History is about 10k years, the 200k years is mostly pre-history. People didn’t write stuff down until they invented agriculture and needed to track trade between owners, workers, etc

psud, to memes in They aren't, and I'm sick of being told they are

In my (Australian) public service career I have watched a team of 100 public servants deliver and keep updated a data capture and processing system

A large American service company now does that job with four times the people. It took years to get them to add keyboard shortcuts to their product - the original was entirely mouse driven; and their product didn’t meet contrast rules for months

Big K is Kelvins (temperature), so the multiplier had to be little k

You said that as a lemmy.ml user in reply to a user from another instance, and I’m replying to you from yet a third. It doesn’t seem to be restricting any of us to our own instance

Is the “problem” you’re talking about that any instance may have it’s own community by the same name as another instance’s? That’s not a bug.

That lets anyone say “I don’t like that community for this thing I like, I shall set up my own on this other instance”

Yeah, I’m used to the narrower meaning of “history”, meaning recorded. I like that definition as it lets you differentiate between it and prehistory.

psud, to science_memes in He did though.

They are almost always better in their dock, specifically boats optimised as condos are terrible at sea since open ocean is not in their design brief

Perhaps they might be better up river as far as they can go

Stupid/inconstant adults stick in your mind. I’m lucky to have mostly had good teachers, just one teaching vowels one week taught us a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y

Then the next week tested our learning, and marked my answer “a, e, i, o, u, sometimes y” wrong because it’s only aeiou. Sure teacher. No vowels at all in by, but the same sound at the beginning of bicycle has one.

I think they must have been reading from a book when teaching, but working from their own ideas for the test

I’m picturing all the services complaining their keys are insecure, their configs are insecure

psud, to programmer_humor in Need a rust version too.

No perl either. Much like python you find a relevant library (in cpan), but unlike python there will be seven different implementations, and any four perl devs will come up with at least ten solutions, nine of which will successfully rescue the princess

psud, to comicstrips in More Parmesan? - Existential Comics

He’s using the fine grating side, as is appropriate for parmesan

When using one of the small sides of the grater, you hold it by the large edges, but since you’re not rubbing your fingers up and down the blades you will be uninjured
