What is your unpopular flim opinion

I’ll go first. Mine is that I can’t stand the Deadpool movies. They are self aware and self referential to an obnoxious degree. It’s like being continually reminded that I am in a movie. I swear the success of that movie has directly lead to every blockbuster having to have a joke every 30 seconds

It’s easy to hate popular things. Makes people feel edgy.

Yep. One’s lifestyle (almost) always expands to fit their means.

As soon as you make what feels “comfortable,” you’ll want another 10-20k.

It's funny how google pretends the music on YouTube isn't straight up piracy and everyone just goes along with it

Most people have extremely weird ideas of what’s considered piracy and what isn’t. Downloading a video game rom is piracy, but if you pay money to some Chinese retailer for an SD card containing the roms, that’s somehow not piracy. Exploiting the free trial on a streaming site by using prepaid visa cards is somehow not...

Big labels have a direct line to YouTube via ContentID. Indie artists have to do it the hard way.

I like my Roku, but it would be much more annoying without a pihole to block the ads.

I had OG covid just after Xmas 2020. Didn’t eat for 3-4 days, and was so excited for the first time I felt up to eating. That’s when I discovered I had no sense of smell. The basic tastes were there, salty, sweet, etc, but no nuance to it. With just the texture to go off, my basic white-bread-and-ham sandwich was like eating a wet sponge. It stayed that way for about 2 weeks, I think (the brain fog was real, too, don’t remember much of January 2021).

Started to come back slowly, and was normal by the end of March. Nothing much long term to report. Smell might be a little more sensitive now, if anything. We have cats, and I’m always the first to know when the box needs cleaning.

If recent history is any indication (it’s not, but it’s fun to think about), the craziness won’t even start for a few weeks/months:

March 2014: MH370 disappeared.
March 2015: Germanwings Flight 4U 9525 is intentionally crashed in the Alps.
April 2016: The Panama Papers are leaked/published.
February 2017: The Oscars’ presenters forget how to read.
February 2018: Parkland, Florida school shooting.
March 2019: The Boeing 737 Max is effectively banned from flights after a string of crashes.
March 2020: Covid doesn’t start, but finally comes to a breaking point and restrictions are implemented across the US.
March 2021: The container ship Ever Given ran aground in the Suez Canal.
February 2022: Russia invades Ukraine.
February 2023: US Air Force shot down a Chinese spy balloon.

I did an hour of a metalworking class at scout camp in the 80s.

Must go faster? She can’t take much more of this, Captain. I’ve got a bad feeling about this.

I had an old 12v power tool battery die, so I took it apart to find 8 generic AA rechargeables wired together. I suspect lots of batteries are multiples of 1.5v (9/12/18) because they’re just stacked smaller cells that are already mass produced.

Does "Rock music is evil / of the devil" have racist roots?

As a Christian most of the circles I’m around are pretty chill…no stone-cold fundamentalists. But I have been around people (and even had family members) who are 100% convinced that rock music is evil and will lead people to engage in witchcraft and draw pentagrams all over their home....

I’ve been Runnin’ with the Devil since 1978.

Tangential to the question, but Elvis was famously censored from the waist down in an early TV appearance for being too sexy. Then, of course, lots and lots of rock in the ‘free love’ 60s and 70s was explicitly about drugs.

Going from ‘sex and drugs’ to ‘of the devil’ is a pretty short line to draw for some people.

O’Brien returned his cart, and yours, and was mumbling complaints about lazy people while gathering two more when somebody drove a motorized cart into him and broke his ankle.

He’d have his man-servant turn off the wifi on his phone. As long as the little symbol is gone, that means the internet no longer exists. Object Permanence isn’t his strong suit.

The animated series ended in 1974. This was before my time, so pure speculation, but Star Trek was likely still in the minds of kids of the appropriate age for the toy.

Plex desperately wants to be more then just a self-hosted library solution, as that’s often (though not exclusively) associated with piracy. They also have a free streaming service, similar to Tubi and Pluto, that can integrate with your own library.
