Policy holder: I’ve paid thousands over the years and you won’t help me until I pay another few thousands out-of-pocket first?

scytale, to asklemmy in Texans, what's the attitude/feelings/preparations towards the coming freezing weather?

Fairly more optimistic than the previous years because there’s no rain in the forecast this time. Freezing is more manageable if there’s no ice everywhere. Of course there’s still the danger of pipes bursting because of lack of winterization. Then the most obvious, the fear of losing power.

scytale, to asklemmy in Getting braces as a young adult?

My wife wants to try invisalign and we’re in our late 30s. She just wants to straighten her upper front teeth (slight overbite). Did your orthodontist say anything about expectations for adults and if there’s any difference?

scytale, to linux in When Windows 10 dies, I am going to jump ship over to Linux. Which version would you recommend for someone with zero prior experience with Linux? **Edit: Linux Mint it shall be.**

They can go for LMDE to avoid the Ubuntu stuff.

scytale, to lemmyshitpost in IT support work be like

Keepass and Bitwarden are the highly recommended password managers.

scytale, to memes in Recursive authentication

Can you provide more info how it’s easy to accidentally wipe? I’ve only done a transfer once, but it was by installing authenticator on the new phone and logging in, then deleting the other one on the old phone after testing that the codes work.

Usul has called a small one.

scytale, to linux in What's your favorite music player on Linux?

Audacious with a winamp skin. Nostalgic.

One possibility: Are you on the same network (i.e. wifi) without a vpn? If yes, then both of you have the same public IP, so it’s trivial to figure out you’re likely in the same household.

scytale, to asklemmy in Mickey Mouse is now public domain (Steamboat Willie specifically). What do you think we will see this year?

I just saw a post with an article saying indie filmmakers already scrambling to make a horror movie like the Pooh one.

scytale, to privacy in Insight on how the ADs network is built?

I think there are levels to it. Adblockers, while still not being used by the majority of people, has a pretty significant chunk of users and is becoming more common to regular people, not just privacy-concerned users. So I think DNS level blocking is fine. You start to stand out when you add more privacy and anonymity tools on top of it, like Decentralyes, for example.

Yeah that was the incredible part. Kudos to the crew for being able to get everyone out safely.

scytale, to cooking in [QUESTION] Do you have any favorite quick broth recipes for homemade instant ramen?

I don’t have an exact recipe, but my wife likes to add Perilla or Sesame oil to ramyun broth. We want to try truffle oil but we can’t find it in any of the asian groceries in our area. Oh and dashi and/or miso are definitely what I would use if I made broth from scratch.

scytale, to asklemmy in Thoughts on reddit reposter bots?

I think they are fine for posts that don’t need engagement. The problem is, those bots also repost stuff of which comments need to be seen by the OP like AITA or posts asking for advice, things that the OP will never see if you comment here on lemmy. Those reposts are useless. Those bots should only be used for static content (pics, videos, etc.).
