shalafi, to memes in I have never understood that.

Wife is a 98lb. Pilipino living in NW Florida.

72°: “Babe! It is so cold!”

She literally has no idea how to dress warmly. Trying to get the idea of layers into her head, but I’m failing so far.

'71 here. OLD PERSON!

shalafi, to memes in That's right

Sigh… Country used to be pretty good. Now that Nashville has discovered algorithms, they just churn out formulaic shit that sounds exactly alike.

Saw a 5-minute video a couple of years back. I think it was 5 of the (then) current country songs, blended one into the other. You could not tell where one cut off and the next picked up. Sounded like 5 singer collaborating on a single song.

Had my details a bit off, but here it go:

I got a couple and usually don’t like 'em. Outside in the heat is great though!

shalafi, to linux in Overheating laptop, should I try a lighweight distro - which one?

Lots of cleaning advice, but let me add this bit: If you crack it open and use a can of air on it, unplug the CPU fan first. Super easy if you’ve gone that far.

shalafi, (edited ) to asklemmy in Am i the a**hole for telling my coworkers no?

Sounds like what I call Pretty Girl Syndrome. Pretty girls are never told no and are appalled when anyone does so. I can hardly hold it against them, it’s just the way life has been for them, but still.

shalafi, to memes in Also likes food!

My dating profiles got a lot of attention. I’ll give you guys a tip:

Go onto the site as a woman looking for a man and read the other guy’s profiles. MAKE YOURS DIFFERENT.

shalafi, to memes in Is this what people think about Tor browser?

Back in 2002 my manager was hosting his own little site on his home webserver. Shared it with all of us, and the company’s managers who were our sole source of income.

“So Jay, the Google search widget is pretty cool, but when I stary to type “a”, “Angelina Jolie porn” comes in the results. Who all you share this with?”

“Oh shit! Are you fucking serious?!”

shalafi, to memes in FYI

I want my childhood rules from the 70s back in play.

Christmas decorations go up the day after Thanksgiving, go down on New Year’s Day.

Christmas ain’t special if you got 3 months of it. 3 months is a season, not a holiday.

Meh, at least the blood diamond thing is dying fast and hard. Young people don’t give two shits about real diamonds, and neither do some of us old farts.

Hell, my finance and I are both 52 and the question of “real” diamonds never even came into play. We just got on Etsy and picked a couple of dope rings that we loved, ~$500 for both.

Disclaimer: Her ring appears to have real diamonds, but they’re tiny. For $260, for that ring, I’d say the price of diamonds has tanked.

shalafi, to asklemmy in Excluding the obvious ones such as politics, what topics can't you stand listening to people talk about?

LOL, when I moved to the South (American) people were stunned that I knew nothing about the SEC (regional college football conference) and didn’t have a favorite.

It was a big deal, for both men and women, around the office. Now that I’m at a software dev, people rarely comment, and only on their local team.

Go local sports team!

shalafi, to asklemmy in Excluding the obvious ones such as politics, what topics can't you stand listening to people talk about?

Medical topics become more and more important as we age. You never know when you might learn something helpful. “That happens to you too? And did the fix work?”

Hell, you might learn about something that doesn’t affect you, but you can pass it on. For example; Dad didn’t have hairy legsm but a guy in bootcamp showed him how to put on socks if you do. :)

One upmanship is boorish not matter the topic.

shalafi, to asklemmy in Excluding the obvious ones such as politics, what topics can't you stand listening to people talk about?

That sort of talk disappears when you get older. People might briefly chat about their favorite whiskey or whatever, but they’re not having whole-ass conversations on the topic.

shalafi, to science_memes in It's a sample. For my desk.

I’m in NW Florida. We don’t have rocks and it sucks. :(

Could I interest anyone in a variety of sand, silt, clay and loam? We have 45 different kinds of mud!

shalafi, to asklemmy in What's a sci-fi or fantasy book or series that you want to see adapted as a movie/television series?

Drangonlance could be as epic as The Lord of the Rings. Yes, really.
