I’m an ordained minister in The Church of the FSM and I approve this liturgy. I should seriously ask Bobby if this can make it into official church doctrine.

shalafi, to memes in Why not?

I’m ordained in the Church of the FSM and got my fiancé’s buddy ordained so he could marry us week after next. Florida say’s it’s all good!

I’m ordained in the Chruch and I’ll accept it.

Well… That’s a starting point…

shalafi, to memes in You are about to enter another dimension.

My imaginary audience is my deceased dad (grandad really.)

WWII, Pacific Theatre, Torpedoman 3rd class. Died in the early 80’s from mesothelioma. (Those battleship pipes were wrapped with raw asbestos sheets, lashed on with duct tape.)

I often try to imagine explaining to him stuff like the internet and Trump. Yeah.

shalafi, to science_memes in Behold the glorious GAR!

My dumb ass tried to catch a gar by hand one day in an Oklahoma lake. Chased it around in 3" water and then realized what would happen if I actually caught it.

Been reading the Deathworlders book(s). Basically a FOSS series of novels. Sounds like it would devolve into bad fan fiction. 1,500 pages in and I’m still diggin’ it.

Humans come from a “level 12” planet. Sapience isn’t thought able to evolve on a level 10, too dangerous. Too serious on every front; Gravity, weather, temperature extremes, microorganisms, parasites, predators, radiation exposure, all that.

First chapter is a human on a space station trying to get processed through emigration when the baddest-ass aliens of all lock on and board. He beats one to death with its own arm. Basically like a chimp in a preschool of giant, soft children.

Gets hilarious when the same guy is finally back home bartending and, as Earth watches in awe, those same aliens invade a Canadian hockey game.

Epubs and such are readily available.

Of course it’s political! Of course it’s not genetic! FFS, I’m not retarded.

How about “Israelites” are running shit in a shadowy conspiracy? That tastes almost as foul in my mouth. But I can sure see where the nuts are coming from.

And see where you’re going with this? Anti-Nazi and racism talk. I’m neither a Nazi nor a racist, and you can check every post I’ve ever made, here or on reddit (/u/shalafi71). Every single one. Go back 11-years on reddit if you like.

But see how the conversation went that way when I started talking about Israel and Jews? And to be clear; I do NOT wish to conflate the two. But it’s easy to see how many (most?) folks do?

Jews were pushed into usury, maybe they’re over-represented in certain spaces like Ivy League schools because they’re wealthier on average, which buys a better education and more opportunities, perpetuating that wealth and success

Any anyone joining this discussion, read that over and over again, because it’s true and that’s how it worked out. We decry this sort of thing, uh, usually, but it’s OK because the Jews have been the underdogs for 2,000+ years? Maybe? I’ve always been a cheerleader for Jews and Israel. I really don’t know what to think anymore.

To get back on point, here’s what I’m seeing, when my eyeballs can get past the in-your-face genocide:

Got any sort of influence in the 1st world? Spoken against Israel lately? Still got a job? Yes, yes, no.

Anything in that last sentence strike anyone false?

shalafi, (edited ) to memes in The whole situation sickens me

Anyone who speaks against Israel in this “fight”: Cancelled. And it’s gotten so you don’t even need to say the magic word: “antisemite”.

God forgive me, but maybe the “Jews rule the world” nuts weren’t so wrong after all.

Banking, Hollywood, Ivy League schools, major journalists and news outlets, my own President, all of them pro-Israel no matter what.

Show me I’m wrong, stop me, take my beer away, come over to my house and punch me in the face, but get me off this conspiracy train. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen the fruitcakes come so close to truth.

Oh god.

During his testimony, he often sat with his shoulders slumped and his hands clasped between his legs. On occasion, he crossed his arms over his chest and looked down his nose.

Like a toddler being called on his misbehavior.

Trump testified that he believed he was worth more than his financial statements reflected, concluding: “Therefore, you have no case.”

“I said it so it’s TRUUUUUU!” What is this shit? “It’s fake and gay and so are you!”

“I have a castle,” he said at another.

And I have a racecar bed. Jesus fucking Christ.

“I am being forced to take the witness stand tomorrow in a SHAM trial…

He never had to take the stand in the first place. He didn’t even have to be in the courtroom.

shalafi, to privacyguides in What do you use for cloud storage and why?

I just pay Google $99/yr. for 2TB of storage. I have my Google Drive mapped as G: and Windows libraries mapped to folders in the Google Drive.

Super simple and cheap. I still have local backups for fast restores, and Google for cloud.

Agrarian South vs. Industrialized North made for an unfair trade balance. You can hardly trade a bale of cotton for a steam engine, that kinda idea I believe. Been 30+ since college American History, forgot the exact gripes.

We could probably find these disputes in the various Letters of Secession. They almost all start with slavery, but there were other complaints.

EDIT: I was wrong. The letters are almost 100% “bla, bla, bla, we’re being treated unfairly and we’re leaving.” Surprisingly little mention of slavery, but get a load of Mississippi’s letter! LOL my god, y’all just gonna have to read that one yourself. (I had always assumed that letter was typical and I was wrong.)

EDIT: Oh fuck me, I’m wrong again. The linked are merely the official ordinances, not Letters of Succession. Hence why they’re all dry legalese. But I did arouse your curiosity about Mississippi, so here go their letter.

shalafi, to gaming in Get gud

Been there, done that, it sucked.

It was great at first! But after 6-months I was depressed. Guess I’m the sort that requires the structure a regular job provides. Kinda been the same for WFH. :(
