shalafi,

Fuckin’ A! My god, I’m about to be 53 and that was me most of my life. 6-months of hard work would put be back in that zone.

Kids: Y’all are fat. And yes, it’s your fault. Yes, you have control over this situation. No, you are not powerless. No, that’s not fat shaming.

shalafi, (edited )

When I was dating, I laughingly told a girl I was “kinda redneck”.

“Uh, exactly how redneck?”

“I loathe Trump and don’t start me on January 6th. If that’s what you’re asking.”

“Whew. Just checking.”

shalafi, (edited )

This look MAGA to you OP?

Pictured:

  • /r/liberalgunowners patch
  • Ukraine patch
  • Imperial Storm Trooper AR-15 (OK, you kinda got me on that one.)
  • wife’s Christmas present (hot pink Bersa Thunder .380)
  • Pilipino flag
  • 20-yo hat, bought before assholes took over the flag
  • 20-round mag, kinda prefer the 10s, standard 30s are a bit much for reasons

Not pictured:

OK, the crushed Keystone cans scream redneck, but not MAGA.

To top it off, that’s in Florida, where it’s perfectly OK to paint us with a fat “conservative asshole who deserves whatever happens to them” brush.

And 01/06 gave me fucking PTSD thank you very fucking much. And I don’t say that lightly.

(Glad I took a minute on this post! Found some cool new patches.)

shalafi,

I’ve made comments about how Mississippians are not what they’re made out to be. Not a welcome comment around here.

shalafi,

Imma be dumb here, but I think the holes in the hand guard are M-LOK? Not looking to attach tools there in any case.

low-profile gas block

Uh, you lost me, but I’m listening. LOL, this is why I went with a plain Ruger Whiteout. Still learning, but didn’t want to fuck up rolling my own.

And yes, I’m loving the A2 sight. Practicality aside, I saw this on sale and thought, “Huh. M16 in Star Wars? Sold.” The light is a normal Olight I happened to have, but it glares on the front sight. Can’t find it again, but someone posted a nice adapter that would throw it out further. Know what I’m talking about? Couldn’t find one at the time.

shalafi,

LOL, I’m on the water with my kayaks, canoe and little plastic boat, “Caught anything?”

“Uh, no. Just stopping on sandbanks and drinking Keystones. Walking around the woods and such. Uh, how about you? Catch anything?”

shalafi,

HWAT?! I have no idea where such chocolates came from.

My wife is Filipina. Perhaps her godless island chain?! (They’re mostly Catholic, yeah I said it, godless papist idolators.)

I’m MURICAN goddamnit! We respect the rule of law!

Is there a forum for people who are lonely and sad but specifically not incel sickos?

like you know you’re a good person at heart but life circumstances and trauma and bullying and etc prevented you from learning the proper social skills to find companionship. not necessarily a forum to actually find friends (i find going into things with that intention feels fake and weird), but rather a forum to commiserate...

shalafi,

I feel you on all that, I really do. Guess my brain responded to bullying by going the other way, fighting to learn socials skills to make it stop. I’m old BTW, we might have different definitions of “bullying”. Mine definition is; “getting the shit kicked out of you daily at school, while the teachers watch or participate, and/or being constantly on the lookout to avoid said ass beatings”. All that to say, I get you.

Anyhow, you might not like this take, but going outside is probably your answer. I know how facile that sounds, but you’re not going to make any sort of meaningful human connection with a keyboard.

What does “going outside” look like for you? I got no idea, but I got experience. If you like, DM me and I’ll give you my email or phone number. Hell, maybe we can help motivate each other.

shalafi,

Those struggles are decades past. And I learned from them! Wish OP had reached out to me. I feel I could help give them ideas, or at least the hope you mentioned.

And a happy new year to you as well!

shalafi,

Me too! Back when we thought COVID could spread easily from surface contact, I found myself at the grocery trying to decide WTF I was going to do.

“Uh, dare I stick my fingers under the mask, or, what?”

shalafi,

Do you really think that way or are you just making a joke? Seems we humans went from making fun of Semmelweis to absolute germaphobes. Does no one get biology education anymore? Or is it more a failure to examine risk realistically? Freaks me out how fearful people are now days.

Always washed my hands regularly. Even as a toddler, I remember getting sticky ice cream on my hands and hating it. But I’m not manic about it, don’t give a shit worrying about bacteria/viruses/fungi/prions/whatever. (Unless I’ve been into something obviously rotten. Ask me about the fungus I found at camp today. Not touching that with a 10’ frog.)

Only time I really think about what I’m doing is after shooting or gunsmithing. Lots of nasty shit, above and beyond lead, you don’t want to ingest. Because heavy metals are for life. Bacteria? I’ll quote the retards from the pandemic, “i HaVe aN IMMunE sYsteM!”

LOVE your writing BTW! I should trawl your comments. (NM, just did. You’re smart and express yourself perfectly. We should be friends. Your damned skin cancer post got me thinking about the tiny spot under my pec. Not sure it’s healing, but at least it’s smaller and not blackish any longer.)

shalafi,

I laugh at people bitching about their pay. Move. On. Why would the company suddenly throw you a 20% raise!? Out of the goodness of their heart?

My last 3 jobs (top pay): $14 -> $22 -> $39. At this point I could probably jump ship for more but I’m quite content to retire out of this place.

Stay put 3-5 years, gain experience, jump. When we moved here my buddy took a job at an oil change place, barely above min wage and far below his skillset. Kept job hopping and now he’s making $120K+.

shalafi,

Meh, middle-aged white guy here. Got 3 kilts and they’re not so great. Kinda fun in the woods. Went to a party last winter with camo girl leggings and it was super nice. But usually, nah.

The women I dated were hardly conservative, or they wouldn’t be with me, and not a one liked 'em, visibly turned off. YMMV.

shalafi,

Just commented, nah, women do not like the kilt look, not any I’ve dated. I’m not so hot on them myself. One of those things that sounds like a good idea, doesn’t really work out. OTOH, very nice with leggings and combat boots. Warm!

Guys, if you want to try one, get a knock-off Utilikilt. Loads of pockets, manly looking (I think) without the formal pleated look. I never have a chance to wear the pleated one. :(

shalafi,

Wore women’s camo leggings with an olive-drab utili-kilt. Damn that was comfortable. But wearing a kilt in the woods and the heat? Just didn’t feel right to me, and I’ve tried a couple of different kinds.

shalafi,

Just commented a couple of times on my kilts being a visible turn off to the women I’ve dated. I’m a small man, not afraid of girl clothes, but that wasn’t hitting with 'em.

Before you go banging on people for “lesser mindsets” and such, consider this; Attraction is not a choice.

Let me day that again for those in the back; Attraction is not a choice.

I think we might be agreeing, but let’s not put people down for their attractions.

shalafi,

Shout out to my skinny guys: Girl clothes are cut for us, especially at the waist. Hoodies and jackets are the bomb. Try it. Wife about shit when I strapped on my new women’s jacket. “OH! SO sexy!”

Got plenty of casual clothes given to me by exes. That’s how I learned.

Buttons and zippers on the “wrong” side are a pain, still worth it.

(For context: I’m a middle-aged, white guy living in the South. No one so much as blinks.)

shalafi,

Except for the interesting intellectual exercise, why deconstruct it? Again, attraction is not a choice. If a man in a kilt turns a woman off? So be it. It’s not like emotions can be fought with logic.

All worth discussing and thinking about, but in the end deconstruction of attraction won’t win anyone over.

shalafi,

Mine (mostly) have pockets! But the obvious (to me) reason so many women’s clothes lack pockets is because pockets ruin the form. Wearing my zip-up jacket yesterday, looked great, cut tight, but if I carried stuff in the side pockets it would ruin the look.

And if women truly wanted useable pockets, they’d buy more such clothes. Not like these designers are clueless as to what sells and aren’t maximizing profit.

shalafi,

Tried buying girl versions of those things? Not sure about T-shirts, haven’t tried that. But I have a small middle-aged gut, not much at all, but I think I might look silly in a woman’s T-shirt.

shalafi,

If you’re offended by a cigarette butt on the ground, holy fuck, you should have been around in the 70s. We have come so far and so fast.

When I was a kid, chunking your fast-food trash, any trash, out the window was perfectly normal. The sides of highways were covered in trash.

Further to go, of course, but I’ve seen solid progress.

shalafi,

Solid! This reads like old-school wisdom from /r/sysadmin. Those folks really helped me kick start my career.
