I say “gracias” all the time. But now I’m wondering…

Went to the local Mexican joint, waiter started talking to my Filipina wife in Spanish. She gamely answered back with a word or two, was obviously confused.

Now I’m scared that people will think I’m mistaking them for Mexican when I toss out a word or two.

Just to fuck with my wife; She was talking to a friend in Tagalog when I walked in the kitchen.

I feel you on all that, I really do. Guess my brain responded to bullying by going the other way, fighting to learn socials skills to make it stop. I’m old BTW, we might have different definitions of “bullying”. Mine definition is; “getting the shit kicked out of you daily at school, while the teachers watch or participate, and/or being constantly on the lookout to avoid said ass beatings”. All that to say, I get you.

Anyhow, you might not like this take, but going outside is probably your answer. I know how facile that sounds, but you’re not going to make any sort of meaningful human connection with a keyboard.

What does “going outside” look like for you? I got no idea, but I got experience. If you like, DM me and I’ll give you my email or phone number. Hell, maybe we can help motivate each other.

I laugh at people bitching about their pay. Move. On. Why would the company suddenly throw you a 20% raise!? Out of the goodness of their heart?

My last 3 jobs (top pay): $14 -> $22 -> $39. At this point I could probably jump ship for more but I’m quite content to retire out of this place.

Stay put 3-5 years, gain experience, jump. When we moved here my buddy took a job at an oil change place, barely above min wage and far below his skillset. Kept job hopping and now he’s making $120K+.

Got plenty of casual clothes given to me by exes. That’s how I learned.

Buttons and zippers on the “wrong” side are a pain, still worth it.

Knowing it would be appealed, no matter the ruling, the lower court found it was an insurrection. The next court had to take that as a factual finding. They could not argue or retry that question. It is now a legal fact.

I’m very much into guns, have 35-45 or so, depending on your definition of “gun”. I particularly like buying old crappy ones and fixing them up. They aren’t “safe queens” either, I shoot every one of them at times, and shoot almost every weekend at my camp in the swamp.

I am liberal in about every other aspect and given the GOP’s behavior since Obama took office, I’m voting straight ticket D till the day I die. I loathe being lumped in with the right-wingers and their attitudes.

No joke y’all, plan shit like this now, not tomorrow, not next year. And I don’t care your age or health. If you die tonight, the funeral industry vultures will swoop on your grieving people and fuck them over.

Working on end-of-life stuff with my new wife (both of us 52), and she doesn’t like it, but it’s getting done. If I eat it tomorrow, she’ll be buying a casket, plot, headstone, whatever the hell she’s told to buy.

Get a will drawn up, get a Living Will signed and notarized. Hell, just look up “end of life documents” and get to work if you love the people you might be leaving.

And if you’re married, FFS get life insurance, preferably whole life. It’s hilariously cheap if you’re young, and I mean stupid cheap, like $10-20/mo. cheap for fat stacks. Study on it a bit, don’t get jerked around! Had a good friend over the other night who sells and explained much.

Tried to get us on a plan that immediately pays out funeral expenses. Sounds great! Nah, we’ll self-insure that small bit. Instead we’ll setup a joint account and auto-pay $100-$200 a month until we’re feeling good about it. $10-20K? Can’t afford that? Who cares?! Pay $25/mo., whatever, it’ll stack if you’re young.

tl;dr: The funeral business gets away with this shit because we don’t plan, and that’s on us. And if you want a casket? Sure, take a plan as pictured.

Been reading the Deathworlders book(s). Basically a FOSS series of novels. Sounds like it would devolve into bad fan fiction. 1,500 pages in and I’m still diggin’ it.

Humans come from a “level 12” planet. Sapience isn’t thought able to evolve on a level 10, too dangerous. Too serious on every front; Gravity, weather, temperature extremes, microorganisms, parasites, predators, radiation exposure, all that.

First chapter is a human on a space station trying to get processed through emigration when the baddest-ass aliens of all lock on and board. He beats one to death with its own arm. Basically like a chimp in a preschool of giant, soft children.

Gets hilarious when the same guy is finally back home bartending and, as Earth watches in awe, those same aliens invade a Canadian hockey game.

What they’re trying to do is convert or lose low-value customers and make high-value customers and save bandwidth at the same time. Fewer high-value customers also has an impact on support costs.

I did the same with my little computer support business. Doubled prices and kept the solid customers.

I straight steal my media, so I don’t have a dog in this fight. Actually, I’m a little stunned that anyone pays for this bullshit in the first place.
