A lot of the time that is the response after someone says that they did try to talk to their partner too. It is both true and a non-helpful answer in a lot of cases because the problems to discuss are caused by underlying communication problems.

I just want the run time to match the stories they are ready to tell instead of trying to fit everything into a tidy number of episodes at a set episode length.

In this case words matter, and universal is not synonymous with government run. Universal healthcare means available for everyone. If it isn't available for everyone, it is not universal.

Government implemented universal single payer is the best implementation based on every civilized country.

You just have to be extremely poor and old to get it.

That isn't what universal means.

snooggums, to vexillology in My accidentally communist Kansas flag redesign
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

Change the red to blue and maybe add a few yellow stars to match the state motto. Might end up a bit busy though.

A sickle instead of the sunflower for harvesting wheat could add a little commie flair. I do like your sunflower though!

Am Kansan who hates how busy our flag is due to including the state seal.

snooggums, to asklemmy in Ancient wisdom often sounds like common sense now that it is commomly taught. What is some ancient wisdom that we no longer teach because it was wrong?
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

Unless you have excess swelling in specific parts of the body, like a cranial bleed, which does require letting out some blood to relieve pressure that can kill you. And leeches are used medically for relieving some types of swelling as well. Then there is maggots that can be used for infections to eat dead skin. All of those practices came from some specific medical treatments that did work for some specific types of injuries, although a few of them were overused for things that had nothing to do with why they existed in the first place which was counterproductive.

So while not asking for it is good advice, don't turn it down if an actual licensed medical doctor recommends them as a treatment that has been supported by evidence.

I now have a habit of giving as firm NO to anyone who seems like a staff member trying to 'help' me at checkout or those kiosks in the bulk type stores.

One of these days I'm going to do that out of habit when I do want help and will feel like an ass. Worth the risk though.

snooggums, to archaeology in Many prehistoric handprints show a finger missing. What if this was not accidental?
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

Hands are actually pretty easy to injure, and modern medicine is the reason most of us get to keep them all our lives. I've known enough farmers and construction workers who are missing digits to assume a significant number are likely to be from injury in agricultural or hunting contexts. Frostbite would be another easy source of injury depending on climate.

While I could see a possible religious practice coming out of reverence for injured hands contributing too, this seems like the age old archeology practice of assuming anything is intentionally done for religious reasons if they don't have a neat and tidy singular explanation.

Just because one group that has a passing resemblance to another group says something doesn't mean that it applies to every group with a passing resemblance. Especially when the group is from a completely different culture.
