some_guy,

Yes. I’m genuinely unsure how it could be any easier.

I was gonna laugh, but then you included a lot of information, and thinking back to the days when I would write super long instructions for people with lotsa explaining. This is a good effort to impart knowledge and I commend you for it.

some_guy,

My heart breaks for your family. Love on the remaining fur-people extra hard and think of all the good times your lost kitty got to have with you.

some_guy,

No, you’re mistaken. Lonnie is on the Right, which means his satellites reflect and amplify prayers. Or at least get a pass. He hates LGBTQ people, so he’s “good.” /s

some_guy,

Wait, did twitch become something that interests me when I wasn’t looking?

What do you think about this? (www.youtube.com)

Since i see so much linux talk on lemmy i got curious and watched a video about the common distros. How true is the information in this video? The person hardly describes why debian and arch are just better than every other distro. At least i’m definitely now curious about Mint or something for gaming.

some_guy,

Was hardcore CentOS for years before the flucksterfuck.

some_guy,

You seem to have contempt for the people you’re describing. You would have had a winning comment if you had said the second sentence of the original comment and stopped. No need for the dismissive commentary.

some_guy,

Only four were damaged. I’d like more info on how / why they were preserved so well. This is pretty awesome. What an incredible find.

If only history wasn’t taught as boring in high school. It’s so damn exciting. New stuff to admire almost every day.

some_guy,

This is the most-true meme of the year.

some_guy,

I thought of the limited series with Paul Giamatti on HBO when I hesitated on whether anyone had taken a lower office after being the pres. Not knowledgeable enough to say for sure when I posted. Insomnia now, so I’ll keep this in mind for when I’m learning more. Thanks!

some_guy,

TIL

some_guy,

You’re right, but you’re missing the forrest for the trees. Deliberately, I think.

some_guy,

I guess you didn’t watch a lot of mainstream movies on HBO in the 90s. They were gratuitous at the time.

some_guy,

I saw a ton of well-behaved pups on a hiking trail this morning. Of those that were off-leash, all were respectful of strangers. Not one misbehaved. Some were on leashes. I assume that some of those could be off-leash without incident. Not one dog behaved poorly.

This is not to say that there aren’t a ton of dumbasses who raise their dogs to have no boundaries. Just shining a light on a bunch of responsible dog-people who were doing a great job.

some_guy,

My father had a doctorate of engineering. He was a brilliant man. When I saw him search for Google and then follow the search link to google.com, to then search on their home page, I started to tell him he should search from the address / search field in his browser. He was instantly becoming confused and so I said, “nevermind,” because his way got him satisfactory results so why bother. Some people aren’t dumb at all. They just don’t care about the same things you or I mighty enough to learn them (beyond basics).

some_guy,

People who would leave a site like Reddit because of a principled stance often mistakenly believe that the rest of society cares as deeply as they. Spoiler: society mostly doesn’t care; at least, not enough to go out of their way to change anything.

some_guy,

Odd contradiction. I support pirating when a person can’t access media legally (whether due to financials or just dick-moves by corps). However, this is the same logic that writers are striking against with streaming and I sure as hell support them.

some_guy,

Wow, tough situation. Glad you got through it.

I tried to found a startup with a buddy. He had a great idea, but it turned out that he didn’t have the technical chops to fulfill his end. Bummed around after that on money and stocks from my previous gig. When I finally tried to get a job again, I couldn’t get a callback to save my life.

I kept moving down the food chain all the way to regular physical labor. I couldn’t even get a job at a vet or grocery store. Having major tech employment on my resume meant they knew I’d bounce the second I had the opportunity. It was a toxic dilemma resume: too high of a former position to qualify for something like retail, too long without a job to qualify for other office jobs.

I got back on top through a temp gig. Having recent employment got other tech employers to actually consider me again, and I’ve been ok since. I never would have imagined what that gap could do to make me impossible to hire.

some_guy,

I’m reminded of the episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm when Larry got a doctor’s phone number and couldn’t read it.

some_guy,

Someone, somewhere, will misrepresent this to give credence to the “do your own research” crowd.

Which is not to discredit the message. They misrepresent everything.

some_guy,

Toasted bagel with peanut butter.

But when you have time for it, try adding scrambled eggs. It sounds insane, but the eggs and peanut butter compliment one another in the same way that fried chicken and waffles make a surprisingly good combo.
