speck,

Dang. Is this brought to us from the same people who believe washing your asscrack makes you gay?

speck,

Thank you! I think part of what I'm curious to hear input on is whether I should disable bitlocker for that shared data partition. Any thoughts? Is it a best practice to have it on?

speck,

I appreciate the additional info. Since I want to make Linux primary (one of my two main points in this little project is getting familiar with Linux!), I'll look into Luks for that partition

The db2 / vm suggestion is a little over my head, currently, but I'll research that as well!

speck,

Eh, low hanging, pandering humor. Perfect for syndication

  • speck,

In fairness to your point, this screenshot alerted me that reaper is on Linux which is nice to know. I use it sometimes and hadn't yet thought to check

    speck,

yup! It can be hard to sustain holiday cheer for 5+ weeks

    speck,

You mean screenshots of the homepage, which you saw posted on a general social media page

Marketing Company Claims That It Actually Is Listening to Your Phone and Smart Speakers to Target Ads (www.404media.co)

A marketing team within media giant Cox Media Group (CMG) claims it has the capability to listen to ambient conversations of consumers through embedded microphones in smartphones, smart TVs, and other devices to gather data and use it to target ads, according to a review of CMG marketing materials by 404 Media and details from a...

    speck,

I mostly agree. But that ad with the unicorn shitting ice cream and kids eating was a rare exception that worked

    speck,

It really was. It was for a toilet foot stand.

(and this is how marketing works)

What is your unpopular flim opinion

I’ll go first. Mine is that I can’t stand the Deadpool movies. They are self aware and self referential to an obnoxious degree. It’s like being continually reminded that I am in a movie. I swear the success of that movie has directly lead to every blockbuster having to have a joke every 30 seconds

    speck,

    As they should be!

    speck,

You upvote because you agree that it's an unpopular opinion not because xou necessarily agree with the opinion

    speck, (edited )

Nice,. thank you. And ntfs for the data format is what I've understood to use

    speck,

This is with a laptop. So one would have to be on an external drive. That wouldn't slow it down?

    speck,

I should follow the law of the internet and insist that you can't export edits and that's why Kobo sux and then someone can let us know if it can!

In all seriousness, I appreciate the input, thank you! I just don't enjoy reading on my ipad as much as I did on the Nook I had, back when. So the recent posts about e-readers has me considering getting one. But I also need the ability to highlight and jot notes when I read.

    speck,

Can you do things like highlight text on a kobo? And can you then export with all the edits?

Also, can you the plug into a computer and transfer books over?

    speck,

To have an enlightened community you need enlightened members. Social media struggles to even have people read and heed simple posting rules.

Ignoring the former and only considering the latter, as others have mentioned, mods serve a janitorial function. If you anticipate a stable user population, you could implement terms for mods, so no one has the role for more than, say, a month. Like students in Japan who have to clean their own classrooms, having all members take a turn might help. You could have more than 1 mod at a time with a staggered start so that (a) they get experienced support and (b) accountability/prevention to prevent someone from taking over. Finally a 3rd role, someone who's only ability is to boot a mod if needed

    speck,

Because I assumed they were a male couple, that punchline landed differently

    speck,

Now we're at a top 3 idea which haunts me. We have everything to make life so amazing now, but we just can't let go of these defunct paradigms that drag us down into a lower common denominator existence.

    speck,

    How come? Why rabbits specifically?

    speck,

I've seen that done. But only in commercial contexts, like restaurants, or in Thailand and India
