Greenland startup begins shipping glacier ice to cocktail bars in the UAE (www.theguardian.com)

Arctic Ice harvests ice from the fjords of Greenland, and then ships them to the United Arab Emirates to sell to exclusive bars. Using glacial ice in drinks is a common practice in Greenland, and, over the years, several entrepreneurs have unsuccessfully attempted to export it....

sqgl,

I hope Greenland just takes the orders but instead uses ice made by huge freezers in Romania.

Believe it or not, some people do work extra hard in order to ensure their descendants have an easy life. I’m not weighing in on whether that is wise or not but it is definitely a thing.

sqgl,

Will the old data be removed from the Google servers?

sqgl,

You are describing r/Worldnews not other Reddit subs.

And Lemmy has been 50-50, with very little actual personal attacking.

The whole point of the article is Biden criticizing Israel for going too far in their mission to eradicate Hamas. He even criticized US for invading Afghanistan.

sqgl, (edited )

False equivalence.

Russia bombed Kiev for the hell of it, not even pretending there was a military objective. Russia also is conscripting Ukrainians to fight against their fellow countrymen as cannon-fodder on the front line. It is kidnapping children into Russia.

Biden to Bibi: “don’t make the same mistakes we made in 9/11. There’s no reason why we had to be in a war in Afghanistan.”

sqgl,

Israel ain’t Taiwan. What tech do you think is indispensable there?

stripped them down into their unmentionables in the blistering cold, which is inhumane if you ask me.

About 20⁰C in the shade and they were sitting down in the sunlight.

"This quantity is not enough to operate hospital generators for more than thirty minutes,” Hamas added

This sounded like an exaggeration to me but it checks out by my calculations (correct me if I am wrong).

This website calculates 300 litres would generate 2.85 MW hours. If what Hamas says is true then the hospital would have to be using 5.7 MW of power.

I compared this with the state of Victoria (pop. 6.7M) Australia where the hospitals in total use 147MW of power. In non-wartime that Gazan hospital probably serves about ten times fewer people, which would be 14.7MW. Admittedly an Australian hospital’s power use is probably more profligate.

Aussie Hospitals Power Use

Worse as in Hamas are right to call the offer insulting?

300 litres of fuel yields only half the power I calculated?

Just to be clear, MIT’s role was to catch him out by finding his hoovering laptop hidden in the janitor’s cupboard and reporting him to cops. JSTOR didn’t want to prosecute but the government did, presumably because he helped scuttle SOPA & PIPA and was clearly going to be a powerful thorn in their side in future.

Unfortunately MIT gave the government the excuse they were waiting for to destroy him.

That is what I recall from the documentary anyhow.

sqgl,

It was Arabs who did not accept those borders. They lost and Israel expanded.

What I have more of a problem with is the settlers in the WB and that seems to be Bibi’s doing without much pushback from USA. Fascists gonna fasche.

sqgl, (edited )

What stops Israel from doing a deal by offering to remove settlers from the West Bank?

sqgl,

He was off duty. Tripping in a cockpit would be awesome as a mere spectator but this was irresponsible of both him and the pilot (if the shroom state was known).
