If you look at the usa, less than 0.5% of children die between the ages of 6 and 18. The least likely age for you to die is 8-9 years old, and from about 12 and up the death chance increases pretty rapidly. A 30 year old is already about twice as likely to die as a 19 year old…

so for most people this won’t apply. If you survived abusive or negligent parents though, maybe it’s different

you may have heard the phrase “god works in mysterious ways”. This is clearly one case of such. Clouds do not normally behave like this, it’s closer to what you might think of smoke. And where do we see white smoke? That’s right. When the Papal conclave has come to a decision for the new Pope.

Pandering to Catholics. QED

It is a message that there is no smoke without fire. The “intellectual” (note the glasses) has a seemingly convincing argument, but is shown to be a fool. The suspicion of sinful, non-procreational sex (notice the falling leaves, which do not play a reproductive role in trees) turns out to be true.

This belief in smoke without fire feeds into the conservative tenets of anti-intellectualism, the tendency to assume guilt based on prejudice and fuels paranoid conspiracy theories. It is also a meta-dog whistle confirming that yes, those other dog whistles the comic uses are really what you think and not just coincidental.

can you call a government that allows itself to be turned into a caricature of itself efficient?

sus, (edited ) to linuxmemes in You should

You don’t really have to kill every process, limiting spawning of new usermode processes after a limit has been reached should be enough, combine that with a warning and always reserving enouh resources for the kernel and critically important processes to remain working and the user should have all the tools needed to find what is causing the issue and kill the responsible processes

While nobody really cares enough to fix these kinds of problems for your basic home computer, I think this problem is mostly solved for cloud/virtualization providers

bandcamp was sold to epic games in 2022 and again to songtradr this year, and half its staff got laid off recently. CEO said that it was not profitable enough - though it was already very profitable. So it’s likely to start squeezing every penny out of users and artists in the next few years
