Here in the US, most bowling places have TV screens that show your score during the game. When something fun happens like a strike, spare, turkey, or split the TV screens play corny computer animations that look like this.

Looks like the screen for a split

As a person who is coding adjacent (I work with basic SQL and VBA, once learned but never used HTML & CSS, learned some C+, some JavaScript…) I don’t fully understand most of the memes here, but it feels like I’m learning a bit through immersion like being a non-native speaker in a foreign land. It’s a fun ride.

As a kid I used to eat ketchup on baked potatoes. Probably not bad, but it still grosses me out to think about it.

Ranch dressing was another good one for baked potatoes. I’m not interested in that now either, but ranch feels much more respectable than ketchup.

Haha I don’t know many American adults who eat ketchup on more than a few foods. Maybe burgers, maybe hot dogs, probably french fries. Most of us hate how it smells too.

You can have any opinion you like just the same as others can have an opinion about the comments you post.

Why do time capsules have to be longer than one lifetime? Doesn’t time pass whether or not those people died by the open date?

It’s for the people who were there or who watched it on TV. I’m looking forward to seeing the old stuff from when I was a kid. That’s the whole point of the thing.

I still think about this capsule every few months. I remember when they sealed it. Items include a game boy and a cassette tape of music.

And here I was thinking it was religion

He won’t. Polls don’t work anymore. But let’s not get complacent.

tacosplease, to asklemmy in Former religious lemmings, what made you quit religion or stop being a believer?

Took a couple decades.

At 13 I realized one’s religion - and therefore whether they live in paradise or suffer for all eternity - depends almost entirely on the place of birth.

Why would God do it that way? There is only one correct religion and thousands of false ones? I would need to be very lucky to have been born into a culture that spoon fed me the one correct religion while discouraging all the others. What were the odds of me not going to hell?

From around 18 on it was religious people’s behavior and politics. Why do religion’s “morals” support irresponsible and hateful legislation?

Mid to late 20s I got into philosophy and realized “because God” is never the simplest answer.

Where did the universe come from? God made it of course.

But where did God come from? He was always there.

Then why couldn’t the universe just be the thing that was always there? Or at least the conditions that allowed for the universe to come into existence?

Adding God into the mix only complicates the answer and makes it less likely to be true compared to whatever our current best, simplest hypothesis is.

Did you know that Biden is like three and a half years older than Trump? I mean. What were his parents thinking?

Makes a lot of sense to me. Full disclosure I like Burger King.

For real though especially if you’re somewhere cold - a warm burger that tastes like home could be a huge help.

As a man. Yes. And I have no fucking clue.

I’d pay $10 for one of those and would absolutely put it in my yard.

It’s between Wyoming and Wakanda. Or you can take the secret entrance from downtown Atlantis.
