themurphy,

Alright, the real reason why you see terrorism in France more than others, is from what we in Denmark call the Muhammad Crisis.

A Danish satire drawing of Muhammad with a bomb was published in a Danish newspaper. The papers HQ got attacked. A small one, but still significant in Denmark.

France newspaper L’Equipe then reprinted the drawing more than once as a protest for free speech. After that France became a prime target for these kind of terrorists.

The driving terrorism in Nice, bombings in Paris and at L’Equipes HQ, it all happened after that.

This created alot of bad blood between these cultures, and that long going hate is what keeps France a prime target.

themurphy,

I hope no one thinks this is the whole explanation, but it’s part of history that is not known by many.

themurphy,

What. If that business model actually works for him, something is wrong with this world.

themurphy,

You could also argue apps that uses some kind of licensed content the app pays for.

I’m not saying I’m a fan of Netflix and Spotify, but they do use alot of money to keep their content available, and not only for server costs.

They still overcharge tho.

themurphy,

Many years ago I talked with a friend about racism, and what would be next when we “fixed” that one day.

He said age, and now you mother fuckers have named every single decade and put people in a box with a label stamped to it.

Guys a prophet I guess.

Do Israeli Politicians' adult children get conscripted just like the average adult Israeli citizen as part of mandatory service?

I was just reading about how a current Israeli war minister’s son died in combat and it made me wonder that if Israeli’s politicians who make these decisions know their family will be affected by it personally and directly, does that lend towards the suggestion that it is more likely they are making genuinely ethically and...

themurphy,

If your main question is if it leads to more morally correct decisions, then that would be a very hard no.

Most people do believe they are doing the right thing. The Americans are, the Russians are and the Chinese are. They DO believe what they do is correct. Same with religion.

But does that make any of the above groups more correct than the other? The answer is: No, it’s their actions that shows that.

My point is, Israel will always think what they do is morally correct, no matter if it is or not. And when you act in that belief, you can justify almost anything in the world. Because you really think it’s the right thing to do.

TV on 18 hours a day, etc

Damn, this frames boomer mentality perfectly.

themurphy,

I’m using BCU with no complaints. Why do you think Revo is better? Curious to know if it’s worth switching over.

themurphy,

Never heard Italy before. Do they have stricter laws than EU in general?

themurphy,

They absolutely work, but you have to have realistic expectations. They are not easy, and they are exhausting.

Also there’s very mixed results based on your location. Living in a city is by far easier to get dates, but harder to get one to settle for you.

At least my experience.

themurphy,

Seems like a solid project.

Can’t seem to figure out how to get this to work on Chromecast? Does it have the functionality?

themurphy,

It’s code. Who cares who wrote it if it’s efficient, secure and fast.

themurphy,

TIL occupied indicators are not standard in the rest of the world.

themurphy,

Can’t we please just edit the headline to include some context instead of copy/pasting the click baity title?

Write which database was leaked, at the very least. I’m not on Lemmy for click bait.

themurphy,

Cracking services is pretty dope for many people, but I don’t know if that’s what you are looking for.

I’m thinking of YouTube Revanced, but for Netflix, Spotify, all that. I don’t know if you call that cracking, but it’s definitely useful, and probably challenging.

I use Brave to test whether my websites work on Chromium browsers, but their scummy actions lately make me want to find a new Chromium browser to test with. What's the best Chromium based browser?

I already use Firefox for browsing normally, but I have to test on a Chromium based browser too. One soft requirement is that it should be installable with Flatpak on Linux.

themurphy,

Maybe I’m out of the loop, but what did Brave do?

themurphy,

Anyone has a small and quick guide to how to set this up on let’s say a Rasp Pi?

themurphy,

Thanks! And just so I understand this correctly, do I need a separate router for this + my normal router?

Why are we as humans obsessed with mass-extinction of our species?

I was having a conversation with my friend about this. We were discussing AI and she believes AI will destroy all of humanity just like so many others. I personally don’t believe that. I’m aware of all the theories and the multitude of ways that it could happen and I understand that with AI, in theory we wouldn’t...

themurphy,

When I think about these things, I like to think about COVID as a reminder what the world could accomplish when banding together - and that we will do it again, if shit hits the fan.

We would do the same to other threats if they get serious enough.

themurphy,

It’s like calling shareholder a job.
