tiredofsametab,

I mean, having a state with no hard border that could invite your enemies in, or even get taken over by them, is never a good thing. It would likely provoke war were something similar to that to happen.

tiredofsametab,

My first porn was probably NNTP (newsgroups) before I even had the actual WWW. Had to learn how to stitch images together from multiple posts in the early-mid '90s.

tiredofsametab,

I thought the name sounded super familiar, but I had to look it up. My dad was into BBS and CompuServ in the '80s. He eventually got AOL, which is where I got started with NNTP. I really need to get his history on these things. I know that, when I was super young in the early '80s when they divorced, he was often spending a lot of time online. I'd really like to know more about that era as my memories are scattered and fractured.

tiredofsametab,

I remember "my bad" annoyed me far more than it should have. Same with the use of 'a minute' to mean a long period of time (e.g. "I haven't seen xxxx in a minute!"). Then again, I had a stepfather who would stop me mid-sentence to berate and correct my grammar so that may have had something to do with it.

This fast food order kiosk accepts cash (mander.xyz)

All the McD*nalds in my area have been upgraded with order kiosks. Regardless of all the controversy around self-checkout, and minimum wage, and automation taking our jobs, I personally love them. I can take my sweet time composing my order, I can see the full selection (such as it is), I can see pictures and prices clearly...

tiredofsametab,

I've helped people order at various restaurants here in Japan before, and the kiosks definitely help in cases where people need to customize to avoid certain foods, etc. which are often hard when neither party speaks the same language.

tiredofsametab,

Japanese showers for the win: temperature is written right there on the nob for many.

tiredofsametab,

Nice! I knew about 167 but not 704. Here's hoping!

tiredofsametab,

That's good news. I'm fine with it as an optional setting, but I hated trying to read something and poof

tiredofsametab,

I hate that I have to rely on some other add-in, but this makes things so much easier. Thank you!

tiredofsametab,

I like the UI better, like that it interacts with things like Mastadon, and, what was honestly the biggest thing, doesn't have a dumb auto-refresh I can't disable (which Lemmy did (at least for a while)).

They both have a lot of growing up to do. Not being able to collapse threads in kbin is driving me crazy; especially for long threads with many nested levels, I can't tell what is even top-level.

tiredofsametab,

speaks into the cork

Soon, Cork could no longer ignore those dark whispers, those awful voices. Cork knew what needed to be done, and that only they could do it.

tiredofsametab,

Most of the world does not have central heat and central air.

In many areas, pools can be difficult due to a number of economic, social, and other factors.

Additionally, running AC constantly also puts more heat outside and, depending upon your power source, increases emissions further contributing to global climate issues just making things worse.

tiredofsametab,

At least through elementary school, yes. I can't recall for middle school if we did it every day or not.

Looking at it now in my 40s, I always think it feels like some sort of weird brainwash-y, cult-like behavior.
