Does AI-generated art posted on lemmy bother you?

I find that i can spot AI Images fairly easily these days, especially the sort of fantastical tableaus that get posted to the various AI communities around lemmy. I’m tired of seeing them; it all looks the same to me. Was wondering if im being too sensitive, or if other people are similarly bored of the constant unimaginative...

trafficnab,

I feel like people holding up human made art as some bastion of high quality being encroached upon by the AI scourge have not spent much time delving deep into places like deviantart

trafficnab,

You would think that in 40+ years of being completely ineffective against pirates and only hurting paying customers they would have learned that that time and money could be better spent elsewhere, but I guess that would imply that the rich are rich because they make good decisions, instead of just being born with good options

trafficnab,

When you ask a British person how much they weigh and they start talking about rocks

trafficnab,

I’m fluent in metric but I can’t think in anything but imperial, I’m merely converting in my head on the fly

trafficnab,

I’m the same actually, I’m probably more likely to say 1cm than half an inch

trafficnab,

Millimeters especially, no way am I saying like “1/24th of an inch”

trafficnab,

It’s less of an imperial system, and more of an imperial suggestion

trafficnab,

Strong public housing would put most of the ratfuck kinds of landlords out of business by itself, if an affordable non-profit apartment is basically available to anyone who wants one, the private companies jacking up prices for pure profit now have to compete with that, and we solve the inelastic demand issue

trafficnab,

I can monitor network traffic, I would know if a bunch of devices around my home were constantly streaming audio 24/7

trafficnab, (edited )

This has been my theory as well, Google presumably knows when I meet up with a friend for lunch (I don’t know if they go to such lengths but they certainly have access to the data to figure it out), if my friend then starts searching for something related to our conversation afterwards, Google could serve me ads about it too, just inferring the topic of our conversation based on that

trafficnab,

How do you determine when a company is in this “too big to fail” category, to get access to this program?

If a company is about to go bankrupt and congress decides it’s too important to let that happen, exactly how it happens currently

How do you draw the lines in that company to fractionate it? Geographically? Randomly?

That’s for business people, lawyers, and politicians to figure out, it’s happened multiple times before, look into the breakup of Standard Oil or Bell

trafficnab,

I don’t want them to be nationalized though, I want them to be able to operate without needing government intervention, basically the exact opposite

trafficnab, (edited )

Hard to effectively punish entities that feel no pain and are otherwise basically immortal

Best we can really do is mow the grass periodically (which the US gov has been failing to do for a LONG time now, although we’re starting to see anti-trust rumblings in the tech industry now thankfully)

trafficnab,

The best we can realistically do in our current time and place, then

trafficnab,

Just bailouts

trafficnab,

If a company is “too big to fail” the punishment should be that the government bails them out, then breaks it up into smaller parts that are free to fail or succeed naturally without government intervention

Wouldn’t this mean that the millions of Israelis born in Israel over the last 80 years probably have the strongest claim to the land (at least the internationally recognized 1967 borders anyway)? 1916 is not particularly recent

I might move again. (Or not) (lemy.lol)

I moved from Lemmy.ml because I liked the name of Lemmy.world and it ran a newer Lemmy version which meant I could make communities. I moved from Lemmy.world because they defederated from piracy communities they didn’t even host (but for some reason still kept the small piracy community they DID host) From thelemmy.club...

trafficnab,

I had to leave lemm.ee because they didn’t defederate from hexbear, any even slightly political post got spammed with 300 giant shock images, plus they suffer from the nazi bar syndrome but with tankies instead of nazis

trafficnab,

You can always look into hosting your own personal instance, then you choose the communities you see content from

trafficnab,

My personal conspiracy theory is, SD card slots were removed from phones so Google, Apple, and Samsung can more readily push their cloud storage subscriptions

trafficnab, (edited )

When I accidentally download a file on my phone, I actually have no idea where it went, it just kind of vanishes into the aether after the notification disappears

trafficnab, (edited )

The release of Shrek is closer to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the invention of the Sony Walkman than it is to today

It's funny how google pretends the music on YouTube isn't straight up piracy and everyone just goes along with it

Most people have extremely weird ideas of what’s considered piracy and what isn’t. Downloading a video game rom is piracy, but if you pay money to some Chinese retailer for an SD card containing the roms, that’s somehow not piracy. Exploiting the free trial on a streaming site by using prepaid visa cards is somehow not...

trafficnab,

I don’t know if they’re still there but it used to be if you looked at the description of any officially uploaded music on youtube, there’d be a laundry list of music rights groups for like a dozen countries/areas

Google doesn’t just get blanket rights to stream a song, they have to license the rights to play that particular song separately for each individual country where they want to stream it

trafficnab,

Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem.
