thats fair, but from an outside perspective (from either country) it looks exactly like how the US treats its dissidents. i doubt someone like julian assange would get better treatment.

also, i dont know how they defined “dissident” in this case but its vague enough that i wont judge too hastily.

people have been jailed for making tweets in the uk.

and probably the us too, im just too lazy to look it up.

communists are considered dissidents in the us, ask one of them how would they be treated if they got singled out.

you dont even have to get that far, look at how all the recent big protests went…

also assange exposed american war crimes, thats what this is truly about.

"Combokeys" instead of hotkeys. [Feature/new command suggestion]

Title. Basically, “if a street fighter gamer and a linux tryhard had a baby” where a combination of keys is issued to run a command/script rather than a single or a simultaneous stroke of two or more. i.e left, down, left, right arrow keys, R_CTRL to run Firefox. Right, right, Up, right arrow keys, delete to power off the...

Genocide is happening right now in the current system. Some learned from past mistakes some didn’t. We can do better either way.

We organize. Lenin literally wrote a manual outlining the basic general steps, and those were used successfully all around the world by the working class to take over the state. It is also a great way of fighting fascism.

We organize worker unions, then start using our power of collective bargaining and strikes to force them to concede more and more. All that while building a paralel socialist party and bottom up councils to direct the decisions, this party will eventually take over the state. In an ideal world this can be done nonviolently (it did initially happen peacefully in russia) but the elites will resist so we have to be prepared and strong enough. Along the way we may need to arm ourselves, save up on food and necessities to defend against the state violence that will come. For that we need a good chunk of the population onboard but its definetly possible. About half the people in most countries are already convinced voting can only bring the lesser evil so half the battle is done for us.

This is just one way, of course there are several schools of thought on the left about how to do it. Anarchists have an interesting idea of just building the all institutions we need parallel to the state too, although their method never worked on a large countrywide scale, it works pretty well for smaller communes.

i find that the linux experience can vary wildly depending on the hardware you are running it on.

when it works it changes the way you use your computer for the better, when it doesnt its nothing but frustration and broken keyboards

[Tips] Google Bard can now watch videos, give a summary, and answer questions about the video, including give the recipe. (lemmy.world)

Google Bard recently gained the ability to watch YouTube videos and then answer questions about the video. I asked it to watch a video from a maker who doesn’t share the recipes directly in the description (though he links to it), Joshua Wiseman, specifically the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich But Better video. I then asked Bard to...

Kind of, they have announcements in the terminal sometimes and telemetry wont go out unless you confirm you want it to. I personally have it disabled, but its not invasive.

Capitalism is what allows billionaires to exist. If you are pro-capitalism, you are pro-billionaires. They are the real capitalists because the are the ones with real capital (and capital = power).

Even if you support better worker pay, trans rights, healthcare or what have you, you are just asking big money for it, not actually taking it. They are the ones deciding in the end.
