The Wii U failed with few units sold. Star Fox Zero released for the Wii U sold much worse than any other Wii U game. But it’s really good - Motion controls are amazing plus the two player co-op where one flys and the other guns is very fun

If you’re on GNOME I believe there’s a remote desktop option in settings under sharing which might set it up for you

It looks like Manjaro doesn’t install the necessary components by default. Found a thread on the Manjaro forum that’s a few years old but apparently all you need to do is install a package:

<span style="color:#323232;">sudo pacman -S gnome-remote-desktop
</span>

Otherwise there are plenty of other options out there like Remmina

I hope someday we'll find a way to pirated a car (lemmy.world)

In the end, the KIA car company made its cars into subscription models, I really hate this because in the end the car we buy with our own money doesn’t feel like it belongs to us. Should we finally buy an old school car ? so as not to be affected by this subscription models or is there a way to crack the software installed in...

Are they? These services do require money to run, and the pricing seems very reasonable

Ending support for Windows 10 could send 240 million computers to the landfill. Why not install Linux on them? (gadgettendency.com)

With support ending for Windows 10, the most popular desktop operating system in the world currently, possibly 240 million pcs may be sent to the landfill. This is mostly due to Windows 11’s exorbitant requirements. This will most likely result in many pcs being immediately outdated, and prone to viruses. GNU/Linux may be...

Auto update has been a pain in the arse. Was doing a presentation for a group assignment with a Windows user and just before we were about to go up the thing just decided on a whim to install an update. Funnily enough he said he wanted to try Linux after that

I’d like it if they weren’t necessary and everything was AV1, then I would be alright with the codecs being omitted by default without any simple way to install them.

Similarly with the NVIDIA proprietary driver, NVIDIA actually recommend installing the driver through the package provided through your distro on thier download page

It’s always struck me as a bit odd that people choose to use a paid proprietary app to access a free and open source social media platform which is developed and hosted entirely by volunteers based on donations. Whilst I don’t have a problem with people making money off of Lemmy apps, making them proprietary and with ads seems against the spirit of Lemmy

Hey! I used the context menu key today… Just to see what it does and ask why?

By “gamer” they probably don’t mean someone who plays games. They probably mean someone who think 69 is a funny number and saying the n word is cool

When MacOS users can snap windows to the edge of their screens and quit apps by hitting the red button we can have a chat about what the better desktop experience is

People need to stop using 3D bar charts: they’re completely useless to read. Due to the camera angle ‘11’ looks more like 10.7 on the axis

Was scrolling through to see if anyone had mentioned void. I use Fedora these days but Void is great because of how easy it is to contribute to with its GitHub-based package management workflow - anyone can update a package or introduce a new one, it just needs to be approved. It doesn’t get any easier than that

Provided that the developer can either remove contributed code or seek copyright licences from every contributor it can be done. Whether this did happen or not is unclear, the developer appears a little arrogant about having written the majority of the code, showing little appreciation towards minor contributors. We cannot tell whether the contributors gave permission for their code to be re-licenced or if their code was removed.

Personally, when contributing to GPL projects I would expect that this kind of thing wouldn’t be possible. Using the GPL is a very philosophical choice of licence and is a move to say that you really care about your users

Gotcha

unionagainstdhmo,
@unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

Not really. Plus we have alot more independents/minor parties due to our preferential voting system that people can vote for. What it does is forces people to are more about politics and policy

unionagainstdhmo,
@unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

There are allowances for that

When you go to vote they check you off on either a physical or digital list - so they can work out who didn’t vote. What they can’t work out is whether you submitted a legit ballot

unionagainstdhmo,
@unionagainstdhmo@aussie.zone avatar

Idiots are citizens too unfortunately, and their opinions matter. There are no fines for submitting an invalid vote (or if they exist they aren’t enforceable due to the anonymity of the ballot)

What do you guys do when you want to run unmaintained programs? (lemmy.world)

I recently wanted to run tegaki, and my experience is pretty much summed up by the meme. I consider myself fairly tech-savvy, but I just couldn’t figure out how to compile it. So I just gave up, downloaded the .exe and put it into a fresh wine prefix. After installing CJK fonts, everything ran fine. Now I’m trying to get...

I would be very surprised if any major Lemmy instances ran on a MacOS or Windows Server
