I guess top left is the closest. But not quite. It should be more empty.

Just neutral.

I had to use my Moto G5s Plus again for 2 weeks when my current phone (Poco X3 Pro) was broken. It made me realize how usable it could still be, it’s just that the battery is basically dead. Also the micro-USB connector is so worn it doesn’t work with some cables anymore, and it is soldered-on. Well, OK, there’s a few more problems. It only has 32GB of storage, screen gets burn-ins within 3 minutes now, the main camera’s focus is mostly non-functional (it just makes weird noise while shaking the view, but if you hit it just right it can be used), it’s very laggy, it keeps losing cell signal,…

OK, it does have a few more issues, but I could still use it if both the micro-USB and battery were fine. The bezels and navigation button/fingerprint scanner are a large enough positive. But I can’t do micro soldering. I don’t even have money for a soldering heat gun…

What do you mean water resistant? Phone with replaceable battery and headphone jack can’t be water resistant! /s

Oh, in some cases the notification LED is physically there, but is disabled in software. At least I know that was the case with a bunch of Motorola phones, including my Moto G5s Plus.

@user224@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I have a few memories that could be it, but they have no timestamps. I don’t know how early they are. Could be me sitting on potty in living room in the doorway, looking at TV where my dad was reading something on Telext of channel 1 (recognizable by the orange bar on top).

One teacher told us that once an IT technician at our school built the network, connecting 2 school institutions with ~7 buildings using only hubs. That network was apparently almost unusably slow, which isn’t surprising.

And not just printers. There may or may not also be a few Wi-Fi APs with login details admin:admin. And there also may or may not be many computers with RDP enabled without password. And those that have some password may or may not re-use the same short password for Administrator account. There also may or may not be SMTP server, though unfortunately in my case it doesn’t allow using it so send e-mails outside the network. It returns “Relay access denied” error.

user224, to asklemmy in What’s your go to driving song?
@user224@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Probably Cem Kılıç - Nasıl Bir İnsansın: [YouTube][Piped Video]

Although I don’t drive, nor I plan to do so as long as public transport remains usable. This one just immediately connects with bus in my head because I first heard it in Bus Simulator: Ultimate. It’s pretty good (the song).

Otherwise it would be Little Richard - Lucille: [YouTube][Piped Video] because it reminds me of riding a bicycle with dad and listening to this song on his Sony Ericsson W200i with MPS-70 external speakers.

user224, to asklemmy in So, who or what ruined Christmas this year?
@user224@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

My existence. I’d rather not celebrate Christmas, although preferably any other holiday as well. But I especially hate Christmas. I’d rather just keep going on as usual.

My mom’s a hoarder, so first thing is finding some space that will be enough for a Christmas tree in all that trash. That 2 decades old tree that will soon have no more plastic to shed really fits into that atmosphere. Then remove trash from table to put food there.
My parents will then pretend to be a moderately happy family for the next 2-3 days before returning to “normal”. (They can’t get a divorce “because God forbids it”)
There’s also the aspect of mandatory gifts. I don’t know what you want, you don’t know what I want. We could both save money (and generate less waste) by leaving that out. I don’t want anything. It’s by far worse to deal with unnecessary gifts than simply nothing.
Decorations. Why? It’s everywhere. Blinking lights, glitter, chains and whatnot. Just another thing to deal with, another thing to spend money on, more waste produced.
Music. It’s like 3 songs on repeat the whole Christmas. Everywhere I go.
TV shows. Suddenly it’s all Christmas-themed. All showing unrealistically happy families.

There’s a bunch of other reasons, but it’s hard to list those. I’d just rather not be conscious during these times, just skipping it.
At least I have a dog.

I’d just rather keep going to school. I wouldn’t have to be home at least. And almost all of my teachers are nice. School lunch is also generally good. Oh, and I can take train/bus rides. Those can be quite refreshing. I can be there for hours. If the school ends sooner, I can extend my commute. So far the best one I can take extends it from just 45 minutes to much nicer 6 hours. It includes 2 city bus rides, 1 intercity bus ride, 1 train ride and some time for a walk in a city further away.

user224, to asklemmy in What are your dental hygiene tips and hacks
@user224@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Yep, you shouldn’t rinse your mouth, because a proper toothpaste has fluoride, which helps remineralize enamel. Keep in mind it won’t restore already decayed enamel though.

Anyway, I am not that sure about electric toothbrushes. At least it’s not necessary. On Wednesday when I’ve been on dental check-up, I asked my dentist whether electric toothbrush would be a good idea. She said “Well… it can be… but you already do pretty good job of cleaning your teeth, so I just recommend you stick to that.” I just use a regular toothbrush. However, just the brushing does take me a while. About 10-12 minutes. Yeah.

Well, something that could be a tip is xylitol chewing gum. Most sugar-free gums use xylitol. It is artificial sweetener that’s actually good for teeth. It helps remineralize teeth like fluoride, remove plaque build up, and it kills acid-producing bacteria. That is because the bacteria consumes it like regular sugar, but it can’t process it, so it just dies. You can also buy xylitol as a powder, because it’s, well, a sweetener.

Now to the disadvantages of xylitol: Consuming larger amounts (I think it’s just around 25g) can cause diarrhea and cramps. It is also extremely toxic to dogs. Just 100mg/1kg can cause them seizures and 500mg/1kg can cause death. Obviously that’s just approximate, so keep your dog away from xylitol.

Disclaimer: I am not a professional in this field.

but there’s no way to auto mount it on startup without editing the fstab file and finding the uuid of the drive through the terminal (at least as far as I could tell) all of the functionality is there, which is rather laudable, but the process is unapproachable for a lot of people.

I haven’t tested it, but gnome-disks (pre-installed in e.g.: Ubuntu and Linux Mint) does have that option:
