waz,

Am I the only person who was confused because I read penises instead of pennies the first time?

I wonder what Freud would say about this.

waz,

I built a computer last year. Parts were sourced from Newegg, microcenter, and Amazon.

waz,

JanSport backpacks. My wife had the zipper wear out on the backpack she has had for ~20 years. She contacted the manufacturer. They don’t make that particular bag anymore so they just sent her a comparable equivalent with almost no questions asked.

Baking Carrot Biscuits != Taking Care of Business

The transition from the holiday season back to the normal drudgery is so depressing. Is there any way to make Jan / Feb less depressing?

like, it’s still dark at 5pm, there are barely any sports on, still bitterly cold and austere and it hurts to go outside, but you’re not even looking forward to christmas or the new year. the new year is here, and it’s largely the same as last year. except you’re getting older.

waz,

Whirley-Pop.

Opend it up, realized it was a cheap piece of garbage. Went to return it to Amazon, and apparently it can’t be returnd.

I love some homemade stovetop popcorn, but it is way easier to make and clean up using a regular stainless pot than that POS.

…you mean IF you’ve got infinite time to wait?

Do you mount an embedded Linux file system to the workstation and use your host scripts or do you SSH/SCP and deal with the limited shell commands?

I’m playing with a couple of routers and comparing proprietary to open source on the same hardware. I miss my .bashrc functions and aliases… and compgen, tree, manpages, detailed help, etc; the little things that get annoying when they are missing....

waz,

Vim has it’s own way to edit/brows remote files. Checkout netrw:

waz,

RC cars, amateur radio, sailing, 3d printing, cooking/baking, sewing, camping…probably more.

I’d say my kid has a mild interest in some of these, but probably wouldn’t if I wasn’t also doing it. My wife and I mostly just watch tv together.

waz,

I learned this term for it from the film V for Vendetta which isn’t a great source but seems more reliable than the crazy people in this thread.

waz,

I’m picturing a man on one knee in a nice restaurant. The woman looks flustered. While maintaining eye contact, and in a serious tone, the man asks…“Will you please shave your snatch?”

waz,

To add a light structure to this approach I always liked the “wait $100 a day” approach. Want to buy something that costs $300. Wait three days after you have decided you want it. Want to buy something over $1000, think about it for a couple weeks. A $50 impulsive purchase, maybe think about it over lunch.

waz,

Learn to fix things yourself. Mend your clothes, fix your bike or car, patch drywall, whatever. Learning to do things gives you the option of to save money doing it yourself. If you don’t learn, your only option is to pay someone else to do it.

What inconsequential or surprisingly good thing can I get from Aliexpress?

Im curious as I usually use the site very occasionally to get certain electronic parts or order from PCBway like I just picked up some cheap but infinitely better than stock gps antennas for my LoRa T beams and im about to get a set of also still cheap but much better than stock 915mhz antennas but i kinda wanna throw some other...

waz,

A bit harsh, but it did make me laugh.

waz,

Yes, 2 pins.

waz,

That was one of the two I found in my search. The other was Molex PicoBlade. None of the pictures I saw of gave me confidence either way.

waz,

When I worked at a car dealership there was a service customer named Stuart Pidasso.

Over the intercom, when they announced “Stu Pidasso, your car is ready” it sounded like “Stupid asshole, your car is ready”.

I thought it was pretty funny.

waz,

Have done that, but don’t anymore.

My regular day was: Feet: boots over heavy socks over lighter socks

Legs: pants over thermals and sometime a layer of sweatpants in between

Main body: hooded canvas coat over heavy sweatshirt over long sleeve shirt over thermal shirt over T-shirt. alternating layers tucked into pant layers

Head: jacket hood over sweatshirt hood over heavy winter hat.

Hands: usually bare for the work I was doing, but when I could, I put them in some fantastic mittens my brother gave me that have been nicknamed “bear vaginas”.

If I got too warm, I could shed upper layers pretty easily to regulate temp, but rarely did I ever need to do more than lose the coat and sweatshirt.

Disappointed I didn’t find the “30 to 40 olives” meme in the comments.

I guess I’ll have to link to it myself.

waz,

Waiting for my kid to put on his seatbelt.

waz,

I call this “pizza phone” because it looks like they are eating their phone like a slice of pizza.

waz,

My brain always tries to convince me to eat greasy heavy food, but that never seems to help much. For some reason an apple always makes me feel much better. After that it’s just headache drugs and time.
