xavier666,

List all the essential softwares you are using. Some of them will work natively (Teams, Matlab), some will need minimal tinkering and some would need alternatives (MS Office).

Based on what you have and what you want to do, Linux may (or may not) be a good choice.

xavier666,

i understand, and as a Linux fanatic of 8 years now, let’s not be too judgemental of the ex-Linux crowd 😄

xavier666,

I would guess a “serious gamer” is one who wants to play all the latest AAA multiplayer games. Just not possible for Linux to work for 100% on Day 1 with the ridiculous kernel-level anti-cheats.

For me, even though I play mainly on Linux, the issue is with random niche mods or hardware; Tobi eye-tracking, headtracking, VR.

What's the point of buying new phones every years?

Other than your carrier give it for free or cheap, I don’t really see the reason why should you buy new phone. I’ve been using Redmi Note 9 for past 3 years and recently got my had on Poco F5. I don’t see the point of my ‘upgrade’. I sold it and come back to my Note 9. Gaming? Most of them are p2w or microtransaction...

xavier666,

The only reason I had to replace my OP3 was because the buttons and screen broke down after 6 years. Battery was max 1 day but it worked for me.

What's (are) the funniest/stupidest way(s) you've broken your linux setup?

Tinkering is all fun and games, until it’s 4 am, your vision is blurry, and thinking straight becomes a non-option, or perhaps you just get overly confident, type something and press enter before considering the consequences of the command you’re about to execute… And then all you have is a kernel panic and one thought...

xavier666,

I feel like you can fix linux as quickly as you can fuck it up

xavier666,

Me: I want to change my car tire

Car: Hey, your car is going at 60 mph now. Do you want to change your tire now?

Me: Is it not possible?

Car: It’s your car, anything is possible with enough effort. As per Google one guy managed to change a tire of a bullock cart while it was moving at 2 mph.

Me: Sounds good. Let’s gooo!

This is the experience for Linux tinkerers.

xavier666,

and we posted about it on this website.

In my personal experience, these sort of things happen rarely, unless you are using some sort of rolling-release distribution. For all my mission-critical docker apps, I wait for at least a week after a major update has been pushed and check the dev website.

xavier666,

I think we need to give it some time. I was not there when Digg went bad but I’m assuming that in the early days of Reddit, there was a lot of discussion about Digg. Once Reddit reached a critical mass, posts about Digg died down.

xavier666,

Have you checked github.com/box/boxcli ?

It’s by the Box devs but unfortunately only cli.

xavier666,

Stealing? You mean involuntary sharing

xavier666,

It’s not much, but it’s honest work

xavier666,

True true, I remember my first Soros cheque. From next month we’ll get a bonus if we keep using Lemmy. But at least 500 comments per month. That’s hard :(

Hyprland is a toxic community (drewdevault.com)

Hyprland is an open source Wayland compositor based on wlroots, a project I started back in 2017 to make it easier to build good Wayland compositors. It’s a project which is loved by its users for its emphasis on customization and “eye candy” – beautiful graphics and animations, each configuration tailored to the unique...

xavier666,

Your first mistake was joining a Discord group for a software product. Github pages / bug-tracker or GTFO.
