Then you find out that the lack of an ingredient results in the microbes producing the product lol.
Certain algae for example, need to be “starved” in a way that results in them switching from conventional photosynthesis that produces glucose to photosynthesis that functions to generate Hydrogen and Oxygen alone. The Oxygen is used for respiration and the Hydrogen is essentially dumped as a waste product. They can only sustain this for relatively short periods before their stockpile of carbohydrates is sufficiently depleted. Which means these bioreactors need to be cycled through a fattening phase where the algae stockpile fuel and a starvation phase where they exhaust that stockpile while producing Hydrogen.
The more PhDs I know and the closer I am to grad school, the more it feels like getting a PhD is about being stubborn than it is about being smarter than everyone in the room.
Something one of my exes said to me that id rather not think about let alone repeat. Break ups can bring out an evil darkness in people that you didn’t know was there.
This reminds me of a story about a fisherman and some twat businessman out on some tropical island. Fisherman dude just fishes a bit and rests on the beach, never making much money and the businessman tells him he could make a lot more money toiling in some other job for decades and the fisherman asks him what the point is and he says “well eventually youll have enough saved up to be able to retire to a tropical island…” and just lists off stuff the fisherman is already doing.
Well yeah the twat businessman realized that was the only way to peel this guy away from his effective retirement and into a cubicle where the rich thinks he belongs.
The genetic engineering ban always rubbed me the wrong way. Like… these people claim to as Picard put it, have “more evolved sensibilities” or whatever where revenge, greed and racism are a thing of the past and time and time again we see that the federation basically baked racism into their laws. The way Bashir and Una were treated after it was found out they had been genetically altered says everything. It wasn’t even Bashir’s decision and the federation went after him. Genetic alteration was part of Una’s culture and she was roasted for that despite the federation claiming to be tolerant of other cultures… until theyre not. Theres an entire episode about what happened when Una’s people removed these alterations just to die for it. Or turn into techno ghosts idk. And Pike basically says the quiet part out loud more or less saying he tolerates her because she is “one of the good ones.” Which is what a lot of racists do. They’ll dismiss entire ethnic groups then turn around and say "oh no not you, you’re one of the good ones. Its all the other dirty (insert ethnic slur here) that are the problem.
I get what the rationalization for the ban is but in reality it is racism. It is racism that is rationalized because of bad prior experiences like much of racism is. i.e people looking for reasons to hate, exclude and persecute entire groups of people. "I was jumped in an alley by someone of (insert ethnicity here) and therefore all members of that ethnicity are violent is a logical fallacy as the entire argument just like the federation being dicks to anyone that was genetically altered because of what Khan did.
An example is that I generally despise Jordan Peterson and most of what he says, but I often quote one thing that Jordan Peterson said (in the linked video) because I think it’s a good summary of why toxic positivity doesn’t work....
Because that lobster has no original thoughts. Whatever insight you think he has is not unique to him and the fact that you choose to watch his content and quote him without knowing any alternative is going to make people ask questions.
The article (and what I can access of the paper it is based on) doesn’t really give any details as to what this class is, how it works etc. All the interesting parts about this aren’t mentioned.
I get what they did (its been something a lot of groups have been wanting to do for years) but I am curious what molecule specifically they found that worked especially well. i.e What does this thing look like? What is the new antibiotic’s mechanism of action? None of those latter details are discussed. Its something we can only guess at.
An appeal to nostalgia is a claim that more or less boils down to “things were better in the past.”
The NES era has a special place in my heart because those were basically the first games I played and those stick with you. But… I am not about to claim that modern equivalents aren’t as good. And I don’t feel the need to prove otherwise because I know that it isn’t their objective quality or lack thereof that made them special to me. So the question is why is it so important to you that you can “prove” the PS2 era 3d platformers were objectively superior? Are you going to suddenly flip a switch in your head that changes your opinion of them if someone manages to “prove” otherwise?
AND you have to keep in mind that you are more likely to remember good games and forget mediocre ones. There is a bias toward older games being thought of as being better because most of the garbage ended up being lost to time. Today’s stinkers are still fresh on everyones’ mind.
The temporal accords were meant to protect the timeline that lead to the temporal accords and that includes any alternations to the timeline up to that point. All of them.

This reminds me of something that the people that diagnosed me with adhd said that boiled down to me supposedly dropping hobbies and interests that I am not immediately good at. I felt like a lot of unfair assumptions were made about why things do or do not interest me.
Like… I am a chemist. It took 15 years to obtain my degree. And because of indecisiveness, I also have very nearly enough credits in biochem and physics to have two more degrees on top of that. Some of my hobbies: running molecular structure optimization calculations using multiple computational chemistry software suites, learning programming to be able to mod video games, designing meal plans from scratch using a spreadsheet that tracks 30+ food nutritional and other parameters for hundreds of foods (vetted by a dietician and was in part responsible for stabilizing my mother’s kidney failure and helping me lose 70+ pounds) The idea that I apparently dont have my own preferences that outweigh the difficulty of hobbies seems laughable to me given that.
Draco was raised by wizard supremicists then sorted into a house exclusively filled with people just like him. His only exposure to anyone different was through rival houses. The school heavily encouraged competition between the houses and segregated children into ideological bubbles. All after one sorting ceremony when they were 11. Draco was a child. Imagine being judged by the beliefs you held when you were 11 for the rest of your life.
The DOD was like this. And it wasn’t just that you had to change passwords every so often but the requirements for those passwords were egregious but at the same time changing 1 number or letter was enough to pass the password requirements.
This reminds me of walmart feigning being some poor defenseless constantly on the edge of being broke company to guilt employees into overworking themselves and not bothering to ask for raises.
