Those are potential connections, outside will be how many you are actually connected to. The potential connections number also isn’t live so don’t take it as fact.

Currently connected seeds/peers (All known seeds/peers)

AdventuringAardvark,

Why would a seed be connected to me if I am also just seeding (not downloading or leeching)?

empireOfLove, (edited )

That’s why the non-parentheses number is zero for all seeded torrents. In parentheses number is “hey I’m here”. Out of parentheses number is “hey I’m here. Let me in.”

For actively downloading torrents they’re an indication of connection health. If there’s 150 announced seeders but you only open a connection to one or two of them, you might have a network problem.

thantik,

They aren’t, clearly by looking at your screenshot.

This person posted the format, not a direct answer to your question. Very confusing.

cobysev, (edited )
@cobysev@lemmy.world avatar

It’s the other way around; you connect to seeders.

In the example of 2 (3), there are 3 total seeders and you’re connected to 2 of them.

Although in your screenshot, you’re at 100%, so you’re not connected to any seeders at the moment and are, yourself, a seeder. You have peers (leechers) connecting to you. Same principle applies; in an example of 2 (7), there are 7 peers in total, and 2 of them are actively leeching off you.

JustEnoughDucks,
@JustEnoughDucks@feddit.nl avatar

What about the many that say something like 7(0). Maybe it is connected peers (non connected peers)?

LocustOfControl,

Good question. I assume it’s DHT delivering peers that aren’t in the tracker(s), or maybe a problem with the tracker(s).

The format’s “# connected (# total)” in every client I’ve seen.

Apollo2323, to piracy in What number is in parentheses?

I think the one outside are the actual peers connecting to you and the ones inside are just there saying I am here but not connected to you.

Wait, how do I check for bans? Because I find it suspicious that I haven’t been banned from anything when that happened regularly on Reddit

empireOfLove, (edited )

Go to the “Modlog” page at the very bottom of the web interface for your instance. You can search moderation tasks by username, such as your own, and it should show removed content.

I’ve found actual instance bans don’t federate reliably though, e.g i cant see any of my lemmy.ml bans on lemmy.one. so you’d have to check the target instances by opening their web page in an incognito or logged-out browser window, and view their modlog directly instead of your home instances’ modlog.

HawlSera,

People have talked about a modlog but I had no idea what they meant

blackn1ght,

Thanks!

I’ve just seen I had a comment removed from lemmy.ml, for “rule 1” reasons but don’t really see what’s wrong with the comment other than it goes against the political grain of the community (world news).

empireOfLove,

but don’t really see what’s wrong with the comment other than it goes against the political grain of the community (world news).

thats how it do be these days, unfortunately

you’ll never get more explanation than that

blackn1ght,

Yeah. I think it’s basically they use it as a blanket rule to sensor content that goes against their political narrative.

I just realised that you can go to the instance in question and view search the modlog, it seems it has more entries. I actually got a ban! No idea why.

My wife got prescribed Ambien a few weeks ago. She took one, completely forgot about it, and 45 minutes later had a glass of wine with me while watching Taskmaster.

She then became convinced that she was actually on the show and went around the house asking me to time her doing random stuff. Th next morning she had zero memory and was floored when I showed her the video.

Stamets, to lemmyshitpost in it's a puzzling one i'll tell you hwat
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

You’re in good company. The same thing happened to me and my posts. Also happened to Picard M. We both had our posts removed and is banned for reasons we couldn’t figure out. I ended up making a second account to ask that instance why my posts weren’t able to be seen. Then the same admin (the one who banned us and removed the posts) then contacted us to try to elaborate but has no real answer. Started giving reasons for removal that made no sense within reality, nevermind their insanely vague rules.

The mods and admins are way too inconsistent over there. They do what they want, they don’t enforce. It’s exactly why I outright left lemmy.ml and don’t bother to engage with them anymore. It’s not consistent enough to know what to do and what not to do.

They wanna act like petulant children and throw shit at the walls then they can do so on their own.
