I don’t know enough about fax machines to comment on that

funkless, to mildlyinteresting in In 1998, Paul Krugman predicted the internet's impact on the economy would be no greater than the fax machine's

The fax machine actually had a massive impact on society and is much older than you think (newer than the telegram, older than the telephone, and in use during Abraham Lincolns life time).

Just because it’s usefulness had declined in the prior 10 years to him making that statement, doesn’t mean it didn’t affect the economy.

In the year 2100 or 2200 the internet as we know it may have been superceded by methodologies we can’t even comprehend right now.

It’s gonna be fax machines again, isn’t it?

Krististrasza, to askelectronics in Is this an ISP programmer for AVR or STM?

Neither. It's a USB-to-Serial converter with what might or might not be an FTDI chip.

vaptor,

Thank you

SomeoneSomewhere,

With some finagling, I believe ATMegas with the Arduino bootloader can be programmed using straight serial - you just have to time the reset pulse carefully.

I don’t think you can use it as an actual AVR programmer for new bootloaders, fuses etc. though. You need a full MCU for that. If you have a spare Arduino or ATMega that is happy, you can use ‘Arduino as ISP’ to do it.

“One time, this guy handed me a picture of him, he said, ‘Here’s a picture of me when I was younger.’ Every picture is of you when you were younger.” - Mitch Hedberg perforrming at Strategic Grill Locations, 1999

Anyway, this post is definitely mildly interesting. Thank you.

Somewhat depressing, what 60-70-ish years does to us, and it’s ridiculously little time in grand scheme of things.

We don't worry about silly things like 'karma'. We have transcended such things to embrace the True Internet.

Karma exists, it’s just hidden yet in Lemmys interface, but available via API. Kbin tells it to it’s users.

The iOS styling is nice, I bet iPhone users would love this. Seems like true black background for OLED users too.

I don't like that tapping on the Posts button doesn't show you posts, it shows you a list of filters for the posts you might want to browse. I'd much prefer it just show me the posts using default or last-used parameters and add a button to change them instead.

I’d argue Memmy is pretty damn close! Wefwef is really nice and is probably closest to Apollo in terms of look and feel right now. Memmy already has some things over wefwef however such as multiple themes and push notifications. Honestly tho it’s all preferences and I’m just happy we have so many options in active development!

Yeah, it’s really nice :-). I really like the progress I’m seeing on this platform since joining 2 weeks ago.

Are they planning on releasing an actual app? I don’t have anything against web apps, but iPhone doesn’t let you add them to the App Library, only the Home Screen…
