The liquorix kernel has done wonders for me on that front. Your experience will vary though.

@Xeelee@kbin.social avatar

People always paint Mint as a "beginner distro". That's just so dumb. Mint is perfectly fine for anybody who just wants stuff to run in their computer with minimum hassle. If you like tinkering, by all means install Arch. But if you just want something that works, use Mint.

eu,

Isn't that what they mean by "beginner distro"? Something that just works?

Xeelee,
@Xeelee@kbin.social avatar

But it implies that if you use it, it means you're not that knowledgeable. As if knowledgeable people need to recompile their kernel every day just because they can.

eu,

Eh, I think knowledgeable people know better than to trust such implications. If you're savvy enough you can do everything you want on any distro, but if you're just getting into Linux there are some better, less challenging entry points and Mint is one of them.

I’m gonna get shit for it, but gaming on Linux really isn’t great imo.

My experience is that it’s a pain in the arse to get anything running, performance is worse, vsync is fucked, no HDR, doesn’t work with Hue Sync, and then a hundred other miscellaneous problems.

Proton is an incredible achievement from a technical standpoint, and if people are happy to put up with issues to protect their privacy then good on them, but I think people oversell how good the actual Linux gaming experience is.

P.S. I don’t need suggestions on how to fix the issues I listed. I’m more than able to resolve them if I had the time, I just don’t want to have those problems to start with.

J. J. Abrams: Why are you booing me? I'm right.

Anticorp,

Picard series too. Spock’s reaction is about how I felt during most of the series.

Hawk, to starwarsmemes in Me whenever I see someone link to Reddit instead of copying and pasting the info into the body of a Lemmy post.

Really don’t understand those posts.

They say they’re “archiving” but then only link the post. I don’t think they know the meaning of the word.

The federation doesn’t have money the have solved the scarcity problem

Blamemeta,

Latnium exists

Thedogspaw,
@Thedogspaw@midwest.social avatar

Not the federation latnium is used by non federation worlds and occasionally by fed when dealing with non fed people but nobody in the fed uses it

Blamemeta,

Im not sure they ever explicitly said it, or at least not in the Roddenberry era.

Thedogspaw,

Kirk says money doesn’t exist in the voyage home

GaiusGornicusCaesar,
@GaiusGornicusCaesar@startrek.website avatar

While money may not exist on Earth or the core worlds (or the entire federation) per se, there still are Federation credits for use on non-federation worlds, space stations near independent powers, and for commerce with other independent nations (like the negotiations for the Barzan Wormhole). So maybe like on Ferenginar (if it can convert into Latinum) Qo’noS (if they have money), Romulus, or any other economy. So while he may not of used money (as he only bought from Federation worlds), there still is money. It also can be used for worlds which have not made the transition to a post-scarcity/money environment. And to add to that, the Bank of Bolarus implies that some money is used by the federation. So while you are right in that citizens of the federation probably get stuff for free, that doesn’t mean money doesn’t necessarily exist (which you did point out.)

DharmaCurious, to risa in Especially true after the Lemmy devs confirmed it
@DharmaCurious@startrek.website avatar

Can’t even blame em. Started out in lemmy.world and switched to startrek.website the first time .world went out and someone explained to me how that works with being overloaded. Haven’t looked back sense. The local timeline is awesome, the federation is awesome. It really showcases the benefit of a federated service. It made Lemmy such a great replacement for me, whereas before I was struggling to get into lemmy.

I fucking promise to be faithful to you, Jim.

Vegoon, to memes in Enjoy it while it lasts.

Don’t just wait passively for it, take action. Everyone can contribute and together we will achieve big things. If we all work together the collapse is not just a dream.

Dont use plastic straws, drive public transport or bike, buy bio food, donate to orgs, glue yourself to the street

and maybe… just maybe… you will change fuck all

MuffinX,

Plastic straws have almost zero to none impact on climate change. It is one of the biggest virtue signaling campaings that managed to scam shit ton of gullible people. Climate change is a never ending process, those who can alter the process have way bigger means to affect it than you and me. Regulate the companies, end the “too big to fail” market monopoly, tax the shit out of billioners. Dont fall to their diversion strategy that we are to blame for any of this shit.

DragonTypeWyvern,

It wasn’t about climate change, it was about plastic waste giving turtles straws up their nostrils.

Yes. Yes he is. I didn’t realize that meme was him. Now I’m retroactively pissed.
