I bet you would have assumed I am a misogynist if I hadn’t mentioned it at all in my initial comment above. Something about this comic artist specifically just brings out the most rabid mental gymnastics in people. As I said, I know that she encourages this behaviour too. Before I blocked her on Reddit I remember seeing a few of her comics where the “joke” was literally just “haha look at how dumb and sexist my haters are”
Wondering how much of the Lemmy user base wouldn’t use an adblocker. If you do use one what other blocking do you use to circumvent data collection, YouTube and reddit front ends and things alike?
Ok, Evernote committed hara-kiri, so time to move on. (no way I’ll pay for ransomware) Any tips for good alternatives for Linux/Android platform? My wife used Nimbus note a while back, recovered her account there, ColorNote pops up when looking for alternatives as well....
Obsidian is my fav. It’s not FOSS but it uses a flat folder of plain markdown files so it’s very portable and open.
Notion is decent as well but smells like at some point it will enshittify. If you are okay with the pain of jumping platforms eventually you could give it a shot.
Joplin is FOSS and I’ve heard good things about it but idk where it stacks up against the other two.
I used to do the imgur gift exchange, but have slowly strayed away from that site. Not only that, I didn’t receive my gift from last year, so I was a bit disappointed. Does anyone know of a credible Fediverse option?
I did it one year on Reddit and got a really cool bottle opener. It arrived in a package with Danish/Greenlandic postage and the handle of the bottle opener appears to be made of whalebone carved in some sort of Inuit style.
That’s funny since you can change the tip at any time even after the delivery. Plus doesn’t it go against the whole concept of a tip to decide how much to pay before services are rendered?
Seriously this was very surprising. I’ve been experimenting with GrayJay since it was announced and I largely think it’s a pretty sweet app. I know there are concerns over how it isn’t “true open source” but it’s a hell of a lot more open than ReVanced. Plus, I like the general design and philosophy of the app....
Then again I don’t really understand why would you care about being “shamed”, especially by a company that charges money for a frontend using YouTube’s (extremely expensive) servers for free.
To paraphrase Norm MacDonald: the worst part is the hypocrisy 😅
The point remains, all Sponsorblock does is skip the video ahead. Something most rational people do anyway even without the extension. And creators to my knowledge don’t get paid based on the number of views their sponsored sections get.

Mozilla is unhappy because the use of browser engines other than WebKit will be restricted to the EU, forcing them to develop two different apps....

Sound on. And look at the way Data is looking at the thing, at the end. It just gets funnier, every time I see it.

Anyone know of any Fediverse gift exchanges I can still join for the 2023 holiday season?

People of Lemmy that take more than 5 seconds to start your car and drive, what are you doing?
As the title says…what are you all doing?
Do food delivery persons prefer cash tip?
Do you, as a person who delivers through DoorDash or UberEats or what have you, prefer to be tipped through the app or in cash?

Do i need an pirate hat to enter a torrent?
Just like hackers need an black hoodie. And where can I get one? Is a simple costume one enough or do I need an expensive one?...

What are some places you can spend time where you're protected from the elements and it doesn't cost anything to be there?
The classic example is libraries, but ideally I’m thinking of places you can have a conversation....
