PSA regarding federation (copied from previous comment)
I also want to continue spreading the word about federation issues. I've been on Lemmy for a month now and it's going great. But that whole time, it's essentially been impossible to comment on kbin magazines. The comments simply don't show up. I'm not seeing most of your comments when browsing here from Lemmy, but I am seeing Lemmy comments.
I obviously have this account, but its annoying to keep switching between accounts, plus I haven't really gotten the hang of the kbin interface yet.
Point being, I suspect much of the sluggishness of organic growth is not due to a small userbase, but rather due to the fact nobody can actually find the threads and comment on them efficiently. We need to remain steadfast and trust that the developers will fix this stuff up soon. I really feel that simply making Lemmy and kbin federate perfectly would immediately make this platform 10 times more active. We have plenty of people but right now we are fragmented into parallel communities. This isn't even getting into the server overload at a number of Lemmy instances.
I just don't want people to write off the platform before we can see how it's actually meant to work. I've seen a ton of brilliant comments on kbin and I haven't even had the chance to really mix it up with you guys yet.
Here was the Lemmy post about this story that somebody actually posted here a couple days before this thread. But it doesn't show up here and none of you can see it.
I really don't want people to get discouraged by this bug because it's very disconcerting when you make a high value comment or post and the response is crickets. Its not because the platform is empty, it's because federation is fucked and your post is invisible to everyone not on your local server.
I uninstalled Relay yesterday. It was a good decade but time to move on.
I get that there are workarounds to patch apps and bypass NSFW which I could very easily avail myself of, but the more I consider it the more this whole drama has put me off Reddit as a platform, and really any centralised platforms. I could still use them but I just don't want to.. staying as an active user just feels like tacit endorsement of communities being decimated by a company that doesn't even pay the folks that actually keep them going.
I'll be honest I was kinda waiting for r/CyberpunkGame to do this, given the lean of the game (even if you went with the most Corpo-ish ending, it was still kinda anti-Corpo). Good on them for taking a stand.
As a nomad, I finished the game leaving Night City with the Aldercados & Judy. Seemed the best ending...haven't tried the others yet. I think that's the most anti-corpo ending you get out of the game.
My first ending I killed myself because I didn’t understand the two options it gave me. Option I selected was something like “end it” and I thought it meant like go to the final fight 💀
The other endings are definitely worth going through! Thematically, I think the secret ending is actually the most possible to be canon (i.e., going out for all time in a blaze of glory), but in terms of character development, I agree, The Star ending with Judy and Panam is the most cohesive.
At least until we get Phantom Liberty. From the trailers, it definitely looks like there's gonna be a continuation or development in V's story. And I don't want to read too much into it, but if you remember the base game's launch, almost all the cinematics/graphic banners featured a male V. But he was switched out for female V in the marketing of the game sometime during CP2077's great fiasco. It's been all female V, even up to now.
Speaking about Phantom Liberty it reminds me. I finished the game prior to the patch that included items about David. Do you know if the events of Edgerunner are supposed to occur canonically during the events V's experiences, or afterwards?
The number of people willing to die on this hill is actually quite surprising, and in a good way. So many people have made peace with leaving their subs, their mod powers, and even their entire Reddit accounts behind to fuck over that piece of shit running the place.
My mod team and I are basically not doing any modding. Whatever was in place is still in place, about once a week I clean the mod queue. None of us really login anymore. It’ll eventually become a dumpster fire but so far, it’s not too terrible from what I can see. We used to all be on there checking the top posts and making sure they didn’t violate the rules but, not anymore.
I’ve been wanting to leave Reddit since the fascists were allowed to have a platform there uncontested. This naked utter contempt for the users and mods of the site was the push I needed to finally do so. And whaddaya know, it’s people who have similar values to me that left, while the bootlickers stayed. Win-win!
They'll vent their frustration at the world bots, who'll take it and engage right back at them, giving them as much attention as they want. Reddit = babysitter service, wha-hoo! :-P
I would probably wait and see if they release a “Complete Edition” that comes with the new expansion pack and grab it when that’s on sale. The game is fun, but I personally feel like it’s a “one-and-done” sort of game.
I played it on release for PC. It was good, although it felt incomplete. Bugs weren't as bad for the PC version as they were apparently on console, but they were there. New expansion is coming out soon, so there is probably going to be a sale then. I'd imagine the new expansion will improve (I hope) the things the game got wrong.
It was pretty bad. Like, people were flying instead of walking. The same people repeated over and over. Going into any populated areas sounded like an acid trip of echoing voices. The floor usually disappeared. My weapons were invisible. List goes on

There's been talk that the upcoming expansion for the game (Phantom Liberty) will kinda overhaul some of the game's systems a bit, and make them closer to what was originally intended or hoped for. If you're still on the fence now, I suggest waiting a few more months, seeing if the DLC makes good on its hype, and grabbing everything then.
These are just my first 2 search results, but basically they all say the same thing:
It's still not at all the game that they originally sold people pre-release though. If you go into it thinking that you're going to be getting an action looter-shooter with some interesting mechanics and great visuals then you'll get pretty much what you're expecting.
Going into it buying CDPR's line about it being the "next generation of open-world gaming" and "Evolution of RPG's" or whatever crap they were spewing, will leave a sour taste in your mouth.
The main campaign and side-mission storylines are just flat-out great though.
CDPR have always been good at doing the storytelling side of things, and that didn't really change with Cyberpunk.
Total fraud on release though, especially on console. Fuck them for what they did there.
For transparency, I'm referring to how it is currently on PC, where you also get mods if you want them. I couldn't comment on the console experience as I haven't played it.
Definitely wait for a sale though if you do one day go for it, I don't think it's good enough for the full price. Too many things are still lacking, although the upcomming DLC may fix that (which still means paying extra to fix the shit that should have been in the base game since release... Yeah).
I've been playing it over a year now. Once I was able to snag a PS5 and Playstation put it back in the store I picked it up.
MUCH MUCH better playing than launch...r/cyberpunk2077 used up a lot of salt throughout its tenure as a subreddit. Yet most the extreme hate the game drew was due to the insane promises CDPR made prior to launch. I'm personally not buying the DLC coming out in September until after it's released because of the botched launch, however I do expect it's going to run a lot smoother than the game's launch.
BUT as a base game, if you can pick it up on sale now, by all means I recommend getting it.
We appreciate your concerns regarding r/PICS being marked as NSFW, and we hope that you will be reassured by our response. In short, the shift in question was not a sudden change, nor is there any risk of users being confused… and most important of all, an abrupt reversion would itself constitute a violation of the site-wide rules that you cited.
On June 16th, 2023, r/PICS (then r/Pics) asked its subscribers to vote on the state of the subreddit, and they overwhelmingly decided to feature only “images of John Oliver looking sexy.” On June 20th, 2023, a second poll was held, and it was determined that “any and all media featuring John Oliver” would be allowed. This also precipitated a change in the subreddit’s name from “/r/Pics” to “/r/PICS,” with the latter being an acronym for “Posts Illuminating Comedian’s Sexiness.”
As we moderated r/PICS, however, we discovered that large amounts of profanity and offensive content – both of which are listed as NSFW by Reddit’s policies – were present in non-NSFW threads. This was problematic, as users expecting work-safe experiences were very likely to encounter non-work-safe material. Rather than abruptly alter our rules without first consulting the community (which would have confused users), we asked on June 26th, 2023 for subscribers to refrain from offering any NSFW content in non-NSFW threads.
We also requested a response from Reddit on that same date.
By July 3rd, 2023, the amount of profanity and offensive content in r/PICS had not declined, and Reddit had not responded to us. It was publicly announced that we had no choice but to mark the subreddit as being NSFW, so as to adhere to Reddit’s own mandates. It was also made clear that our longstanding rules – rules which should have seen r/Pics (in any form) being a NSFW community from the get-go – would be unchanged; that neither gore nor pornography would be allowed, but that tasteful nudity, profanity, and “offensive” content would continue to be acceptable. To reiterate, while we do celebrate a British comedian’s undeniable allure, we do not allow anything sexually explicit to be posted.
Our surfaced resources – our sidebar, our rules, our wiki, and our announcements – make all of this exceptionally clear, but since Reddit provides no method by which users can be required to read said resources before participating, the visible marking of r/PICS as NSFW is vital to establishing reasonable expectations. Furthermore, as Reddit assures its partners that their advertisements will not run alongside profanity or offensive content, the aforementioned marking is also in said partners’ best interests. That same assurance indicates that moderators “set their own standards for conduct and ‘appropriate’ content,” indicating that r/PICS is solely responsible for determining what is and is not offensive (and policing accordingly). A failure on our part to appropriately list r/PICS as NSFW would therefore run counter to what advertisers have been told.
We do understand that the shift may have caused some minor issues for Reddit, however, and as we have no desire to harm the platform, we are more than willing to discuss the situation with you. Please respond to our previous request for communication, and we will look forward to exploring productive paths forward. In the meantime, to ensure that r/PICS is adhering to all of Reddit’s guidelines and requests, we would be happy to revert the NSFW setting, restrict posting, and remove any and all content that could be considered “offensive” by anyone. If this compromise does not meet with your approval, please offer a publicly visible comment in response to our open letter. We understand that you are likely very busy, so we will wait until Friday, July 7th before taking any additional steps.
Nsfw is also dead on mobile web. And just a reminder that nsfw isn't just porn, it's also cannabis and vape content, and likely other content that touched "sensitive" subjects.
A campaign by a marketing team to give the false impression of something.
In this case it’s a campaign by reddit to make it look like there are lots of users who are in agreement with reddit instead of the truth where it’s universally hated.
It's a play on the term "grass root movement". A grass root movement is one that starts with the people at the bottom, not at the top. So if a bunch of people got together (mostly independent of each other) to promote or protest something, that is a "grass roots" action.
Astroturf is basically fake grass, so "astroturfing" is something that is made to look like a "grass roots" movement but it isn't.
Did you subscribe through Apple’s app store or the Google play store? If you did I think you need to cancel it through the subscription pages of those apps.
Honestly I don’t remember, but its a good guess. I only have access to Android, and the Reddit subscription is not there. Also checked Paypal, but nothing there either. Still i’d expect the reddit profile to be of more help about this. I’ve had to make a support ticket to ask them, but I don’t even know when or where I’ll get an answer from them
When you are charged for premium, what does the charge show as on your account? Cause when I pay for a subscription through Apple, it is Apple that charges my bank and my receipt tells me why. I would imagine it would be the same with other providers so knowing who is charging your bank account will tell you where the charge is coming from
Curious. I'm reasonably sure the option should be either in the settings right where you took that screen shot or under the subscriptions section in the Google Play app store.
At least ChatGPT is a more polite than the toxic, racist & sexist shit that remains on Reddit. Scrolled through /r/all this morning and was appalled by some of the toxic comments in the various submissions. I also noticed some sockpuppets somehow spewing the same bullshit opinion about certain topics, using the literal same type of phrasing too, just in different comment chains and with different accounts.
Honestly, probably better for my blood pressure to stay away from most of it.
