No. I just like how I feel afterwards.

EDIT: Wait… I do enjoy cycling and jogging. I just don’t enjoy working out athe gym. For jogging I enjoy listening to music and having my heart pump harder for an hour. For cycling I enjoy the scenery.

5in1k, in What is a beautiful concept or idea that continues to blow your mind?

You can design and order custom genes online to make e-coli do different things.

limelight79, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

Cycling, definitely. It’s just fun to do.

Of course you can be pushing hard or some jackass in a car just passed you with inches to spare, and those times aren’t fun, but most of the time it’s fun. My wife says I do my best thinking while I’m riding. If I’m on a group ride, there’s often good conversation with friends.

atyaz,

Depending on where you live, it might be nice to see a lot more of what’s around you on a bike. It’s similar to OP’s idea of getting lost in the flow of a competitive sport. You get lost looking at all the places that pass you by. You can take random routes each time and learn the city around you pretty well. It doesn’t hurt to have your headphones in and listen to an audiobook while you’re doing this either.

I never really got into running because it’s so much slower than biking. You will see a fraction of what you see on a bike, so I think it probably gets boring quicker. Plus it puts more strain on your joints.

stiephel, in Which one are you?

I’m a human not a french fry

Ticktok, (edited ) in How often do you brush your teeth?

Fucking hell there’s a lot of dedicated people here, or a lot of liars.

I’ve been unable to build any kind of oral hygiene routine my entire life. My parents were absentee parents so I never built the habit when I was young. I’ve had major bouts of depression my whole life, I was only recently diagnosed ADHD, and in general am shit at any routines, and on top of that I never have tooth/gum pain to remind me to brush and the dentist doesn’t hurt/bother me. Even having been in the military didn’t establish any kind of routine. But I’ve definitely paid for it. I don’t know how many thousands of dollars worth of crowns I have, and I know it’s just a matter of time before I have to pay for bridges/implants.

It literally just doesn’t occur to me that it’s a thing unless I am specifically reminded externally and do it immediately. I’ve tried reminder apps, notes on the bathroom mirror, Alexa reminders, but they all become background noise after a while.

potterman28wxcv,

At least you are going to the dentist. My uncle was not brushing his teeth. And never to the dentist. Eventually they had to remove all of his teeth because it was all infected and it was too unbearable for him.

I had a depression period of my life where I was doing the worst possible treatment to my teeth - was eating a lot of sugar and would skip brushing here and there; also I was not brushing effectively. My teeth are not in very good condition right now. I wish I had kept a good mouth hygiene even when I was depressed.

jnato90,

Gotta say I feel you. I’m terrible at following through on things/routines and end up disrupting or doing multiple things at once. Funny trend from my experience though is that I remember maybe a decade ago or more the mantra was still 3 times a day. I strive for 2 times but somedays I just knock the fuck out.

masquenox, in given how little one vote matter, it seems to me that stripping felons of their right to vote is both petty and counterproductive if the point was to reform them into civic minded individuals ?

the point was to reform them into civic minded individuals ?

That was never the point.

burningquestion, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

The only real argument I’d make is that most manufacturers only push out security updates for a given model for a couple of years, but different companies have different support timelines.

Ziggurat, in How safe is it to eat raw eggs?

People eat raw eggs all the time. Have you ever done mayonaise or chocolate mousse ? it’s made of raw-eggs. In most of the first world, salmonella isn’t an issue, there is strict food safety norm making sure any salmonella case would be caught quickly before eggs/meat make it into the store.

arthur, in What's it like working night shift?

I remember nauseousness induced by sleep deprivation in the first nights. I left after a year, that was late 2000s.

writeblankspace, in How do you enjoy listening to digital content? Speakers? Headphones? Earbuds?

headphones all the time

I don’t want everyone in the room to know what I’m listening to. But if I need to sing because THIS SONG HITS then I get it off the headphones and to speakers or just my phone audio output.

writeblankspace, in What genres of music do Lemmites enjoy?
@writeblankspace@geddit.social avatar

…Is Taylor Swift a genre?

But seriously, my music taste is pretty much her. Otherwise I like alt rock, rock (not too heavy though), ballads, pop that has good lyrics and a decent hook, and any song I hear that has guitars I like 25% more than those that don’t.

Uno, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

Cardio is awesome, the runners high is real, but you have to be well conditioned so it’s tough for beginners.

Sometimes, I also like to do workouts because it makes me feel productive while not being as mentally taxing as my ‘job’ of being a full time college student :/

Hell nah. I spent 40 years telling people running is what you do to get away from the police. I started jogging during the pandemic 2 years ago. You sure as shit don’t need to be well conditioned just be aware of your body and its limits which I will admit many people are not.

lagomorphlecture, in Does the reddit style format breed toxicity?

The only place on here that I’ve noticed downvotes is on comments that have been obviously social media shills (reddit or meta) or right wing type comments that are not the type of thing a community should support in my opinion. I’m not saying you’re doing either of those things and if you’re being downvoted in another context I don’t know why.

That said, downvotes shouldn’t really get you down. If you’ve said something awful then you deserve them and should reassess your outlook if you were unaware that your views or attitude were unpleasant. If you’re getting downvoted on a tech related thing then I don’t know what that’s all about but I would try not to worry about it too much because it doesn’t really affect your life, it’s just a fake internet down arrow.

Joe_0237,

Thank you, interestingly the thing that prompted me to ask was a tech joke, all (4) down-votes, I removed a jab at Apple and added a picture and the the responses was positive. The lesson must be one of these: That we have mostly strong apple fans here; jokes need a picture even if it does not add anything; or people look at the vote total to decide their mindset while reading and the first vote was down by bad luck. Or some combination of these.

lagomorphlecture,

Oooooh yeah people love their apple and I think you have your answer!

Noles, in How do you enjoy listening to digital content? Speakers? Headphones? Earbuds?
  • Jabra Elite earbuds for normal day to day
  • SkullCandy Crusher Evo if I’m at the gym because the bass is rediculous and gets me hype
  • Audeze Penrose if I’m gaming - best sound for the price imo
