scrof, in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?
@scrof@lemmy.world avatar

Canned tuna. It's very dry and almost all protein so most of it gets absorbed by the body and you'll be pooping neat little bricks.

mizu6079,
@mizu6079@lemmy.world avatar

The thing is... I can't poop at all. Bricks won't work either.

TheShane,

Vitamins, electrolyte drinks, maybe pudding cups that won't upset your stomach...

scrof,
@scrof@lemmy.world avatar

Then don't pack food, get some vitamins, you won't die. It's physically impossible I think not to poop if you eat anything at all and I wouldn't recommend forcing a constipation as it can cause you more harm than it's worth.

mizu6079,
@mizu6079@lemmy.world avatar

This is kind of a group thing and I'm the only one not allowed to poop for personal reasons. They'll be expecting me to eat food that's at least somewhat normal.

Dude. At this point, just explain. No one knows you on here. This is ridiculous.

Trebach,

The canned tuna at the store here is packed in salt water so I have to drain it before eating.

TheShane,

Like a Wombat!

BendyLemmy, in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?
@BendyLemmy@lemmy.ml avatar

For limited opportunities to pee, I’d carry a good sized bottle and limit drinking to sipping water/an electrolyte beverage through a straw.

For limiting poop, I’d try to be empty ahead of time, and just take something solid like bread and cheese which means you probably could go through three days without pooping.

dogmuffins, in Why does Lemmy feel so fresh compared to Reddit?

I agree. If lemmy continues to grow, inevitably some servers will be shit, but I imagine there will be other non-federated or less-federated instances. beehaw has already started down that path.

Trolls are generally looking for maximum carnage, so I imagine there’s less incentive / reward posting somewhere like lemmy.

god,
@god@sh.itjust.works avatar

As an experienced shitposter, the shittiness of the posting often correlates directly with the inability of moderators to clean it up.

olsonexi, in What niche reddit community do you want to see find a place on the fediverse?
@olsonexi@sh.itjust.works avatar

A lot of these aren't exactly "niche", but afaik none of them exist on lemmy yet

Edit: for some reason, a bunch of these that actually do exist weren't showing up in search unless I specifically searched for "!community". I've gone back through and added links to them here.

milkytoast, in I really want to like Lemmy
@milkytoast@beehaw.org avatar

i mean so far, I'm enjoying it. sure, the community isn't as large, but that's mostly a good thing. on reddit, if i made a post, it would be like a 25% chance to get hundreds of comments, and a 75% chance to get none. here, I've gotten a few, high quality responses on every question post I've made. i do miss the "auto hide read posts" feature, but maybe that'll get added some day

adj16,

You can hide read posts here! In the web app settings for your profile:

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/f929af45-0838-4ad7-b563-03b7fa29cefb.png

adriator,

Is there a way to stop the endless loading of posts on the website? Because every time I try to click a post, it moves down because a new post loaded, and this happens every ten seconds, constantly.

CosmicSploogeDrizzle,
@CosmicSploogeDrizzle@lemmy.world avatar

It's a bug that wasnt an issue when the community was smaller. Last I heard they will replace it with a refresh icon that pops up at the top when new posts are available.

Quartz,

Oh thank God is a bug, I really thought it was a feature of the site.

b34k,

It’s amazing what kinda bugs can be exposed in your system when your user base expands by orders of magnitude overnight

Untold1707, in Why don't we use PeerTube to host the videos for Lemmy/kbin?

I’d guess mostly because of the storage space and processing power needed. I run my own Peertube instance for personal videos, and it’s quite resource intensive due to transcoding (making the 480p/720p/1080p quality options). These are needed for a smooth viewing experience, especially on mobile or slower internet connections, otherwise you’d have a lot of buffering waiting for the 1080p file to load. But creating all these different quality versions takes up a lot of space and a lot of processing power. And processing power and space requires money to keep running.

couragethebravedog,

This. People do not realize what goes into running a media server. On the fly transcoding is so resource intense. Especially when you consider you could be doing it for many different streams at a time. Then you look at storage for it all and you need a massive amount of drives to store it all. Then there's just the bandwidth necessary to run multiple stream constantly. The reason there aren't any decent competitors to YouTube is almost entirely because of the resources needed.

cwagner,

On the fly transcoding is so resource intense.

That’s actually not much of an issue, as long as there is hardware support

Especially when you consider you could be doing it for many different streams at a time.

Nevermind ;)

214144pm, in What's up with communities coming up as deleted on lemmy.world?

MinFapper, in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?

Soylent?

Should be available at most grocery stores

PastaTrees,
@PastaTrees@lemmy.world avatar

I can't tell if it's made from people or not

Ghostalmedia,
@Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world avatar

I had GI issues that forced me to live off protein shakes like soylent for months. You still poop, but it turns into more of a Nutella spread.

Vex_Detrause,

Why would you compare it with Nutella! I'll forever remember @Ghostalmedia poop when I eat Nutella.

specks, (edited )

Yeah, after a few days on a Soylent diet, should enter reduced pooping mode. Since people only poop every few days I believe.

And for the record, you don't have to drink a while bottle for a meal. Can nurse a single bottle throughout the day.

HorrorSpirit, in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?

This is going to become a historical post. I don’t have any advice as i have never been in such a predicament myself but i wish you best of luck and no shit!

Twaffle, in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?

This thread is going to haunt me. One day, years from now while lying in bed and slowly drifting off to sleep, I'll suddenly sit bolt upright and exclaim, "Why couldn't that dude poop!?"

macrocephalic,

And what was on that hard drive sewn into the lining of the laptop bag?

feinstruktur, in What are some good forums that you enjoy?
@feinstruktur@lemmy.ml avatar

3dprinting for sure. Friendly, informed and fast replies. Like it there.

solidgrue, in Aside from blocking instances, what other controls do admins have to keep unwanted content off their instances?
@solidgrue@lemmy.world avatar

Seems to me if you're good with Postgres you can do whatever you want.

... Oh, this isn't a helpful answer.

macrocephalic, in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?

I have a friend who was in the army and said they had to do 100+km training hikes. No one wanted to have to stop to poo so the first thing they did, before even starting, was to eat the block of cheese from their ration packs. They called it plug cheese.

Ignacio, in Why does Lemmy feel so fresh compared to Reddit?
@Ignacio@lemmy.world avatar

The fediverse is a great system for moderation. I've been on Mastodon for years now and it's stayed pretty pleasant.

fruitywelsh, in Why don't we use PeerTube to host the videos for Lemmy/kbin?

I personally 100% support the use of peertube as the primary video platform. It really seems to go towards addressing the cost issue with being a video hosting platform. The only step I would take further is having IPFS being the cold storage backend for images as well, and integrate both into the app/website levels, so clients can participate in contributing sharing. If needed, a proxy service so that clients that are concerned about IP leakage, but can’t use TOR or a VPN have an option.
