Authy works well for me

@dvdnet90@lemmy.world avatar

Authy is very concerning lately www.androidpolice.com/authy-hacked-what-to-know/

z2k_,
@z2k_@lemmy.nz avatar

the security team found out that only 93 Authy users out of 75 million were affected

Also this was a social engineering attack and if you’re syncing your 2fa seeds then you should be encrypting them with a secret. Cracking that should take years if not more.

80085, in Why is youtube recommending conservative "talking points" to me?

If I use a private window, and don’t log in I get a lot of right-wing stuff. I’ve noticed it probably depends on IP/location as well. If at work, youtube seems recommend me things other people at the office listen to.

If I’m logged in, I only get occasional right-wing recommendations interspersed with the left-wing stuff I typically like. About 1/20 videos are right-wing.

YouTube Shorts is different. It’s almost all thirst-traps and right-wing, hustle culture stuff for me.

It could also be because a lot of the people who watch the same videos you do tend to also watch right-wing stuff.

In general, the algorithm tries to boost the stuff that maximizes “engagement,” which is usually outrage-type stuff.

LazaroFilm, in What do you use Vaseline for?
@LazaroFilm@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve seen it used on Cinema Camera filters to make funky reflections in the lens.

We were filming a dream sequence and to make the edges of the image soft and blurry, we used an optical flat (a clear filters basically a piece of clear glass that slides in front of the camera’s lens) and the DP (director of Photography, aka the Cinematographer) smeared some Vaseline over the edges of the flat, painting the blurry edges with his finger. It worked really nicely, unfortunately I can’t find the final video online to show the result.

Euraru,

Saving this for future filming thank you!

Hhffggshn,

Back in the olden days of television, a very thin film of Vaseline on the lens softened the wrinkles of anyone on air.

Euraru,

How old are we talking about? 1990’s or 1950’s?

Hhffggshn,

The olden days of the 1950s and even 1960s.

I’ve seen hairspray used on a clear filter to create a similar bloom effect!

themadcodger, in What's your real-life superpower?
@themadcodger@kbin.social avatar

Increased probability that anything I put down or toss on the bed, etc, will fall off and hit the floor instead. In reality, it's probably just a poor sense of propioception.

newpuritan, in What series did you rewatch most often?
@newpuritan@lemmy.ml avatar

Probably Twin Peaks. I think series 3 has now surpassed the prior classic series for me, which is something I wouldn’t have thought possible.

Yerbouti,

Season 3 is for me the best tv show ever produced. I have to stop myself from watching it over and over.

@GrappleHat@lemmy.ml avatar

The Lord of the Rings extended trilogy. It’s so long it feels more like a modern miniseries than individual movies.

iByteABit,

A cinema chain where I live did a LOTR marsthon not too long ago, it was so wholesome to see all the fans gathered up and clapping at all the important moments, it kinda felt like watching it for the first time

I use it on the threads of plastic filter housings in my engine room. It’s keeps the salt water from seizing them.

SpeziSuchtel, in What do you use Vaseline for?
@SpeziSuchtel@feddit.de avatar

Creating silicone dice molds for resin casting. The vaseline acts as a mold release

livus,
@livus@kbin.social avatar

IiRC that's what it was originally invented for.

Not dice specifically but casting release.
