Anticorp, in [SERIOUS] How do you do figure out what job you want after high school?

College is a great place to start. Unfortunately college is ridiculously expensive these days, but community college is still pretty affordable. There are so many things you don’t even know exist in the world right after highschool. The world also works a lot differently than you’ve seen so far, so a college level education is really beneficial. Go to community college, knock out some Gen Ed courses, and take some interesting classes for your electives. You’ll learn about stuff that you didn’t know existed and you may find that you’re passionate about some of those things.

Delta 8 and painting miniatures

Dinodicchellathicc,

I used to love making clay soldiers as a child. Maybe I’ll start again.

Jaeger86,

That’s cool, like I’m for sure not very good at this but it’s been a fun thing to learn, watching videos and buying like “good” paints and brushes. It’s been a neat hobby to mix up just playing video games and tv

FiftyShadesOfMyCow,

Hexahydrocannabinol Is also very effective and, in Germany at least, legal!

Jaeger86,

I’m in the godforsaken place that is Texas, so I’m using what I can get 🤣

FiftyShadesOfMyCow,

No weed = No Texas for me

Can’t wait for weed to become the new normal

Tales of Maj’eyal. A free to play open source roguelike that I hate. This game is amazing. Fuck this game. Also definitely recommend. But fuck this game. After numerous 10-12 hour long runs, I have yet to win.

Captain_Shakespeare, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

For the moment it is still a massive repository of useful esoteric knowledge. I’ve stopped using it for anything active / current, but so long as it exists and is searchable I don’t see that I’ll be able to move away from accessing it entirely.

Twitter, however, is dead to me.

Professorozone, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

bstix, in How do you cheer yourself up after a rough day? Or a rough year?

I go skateboarding. It clears my mind completely. It doesn’t matter that I can’t keep up with modern tricks or anything. It still puts me in a zen state of mind and being physically tiring it leaves me relaxed and not worried about anything.

Exercise is definitely part of it, but also the feeling of accomplishment and occupying the mind.

I’m sure other physical activities can do something similar, but it’s important to find something that fits you.

Some people dislike the pixel-art style and weird character design, but I find it charming.

does Doom count? Because my friends and I still play the game to this day, all the various community mods and maps.

RustedSwitch, in What movie did you rewatch most often?
@RustedSwitch@lemmy.world avatar

I have 2 answers.

By choice: Growing up, I watched Strange Brew with my friends uncountable times.

Not by choice: for 10 years I worked slinging tvs in a hifi store. I watched the following movies so many times.

  • antz
  • a bugs life
  • toy story
  • dragonheart
  • Harry Potter and the sorcerers stone
  • Star Wars ep 1
  • the matrix
  • titan AE
  • Armageddon
  • wall-e
  • shrek
paddytokey,

Yeah I don’t really rewatch movies except maybe to sort of show them to other people. But I have a small child so I know my top movies are Moana and Encanto, just not by choice

jeena, in Why is asklemmy dominating my news feed?

To get really diverse sort after “New Comments”.

meldrik, in Why is asklemmy dominating my news feed?

The sorting algorithm still needs some tweaking, so it won’t show that many posts from big communities, but spread it out more, so smaller communities also show up.

Anders429,

I actually had to temporarily block the memes community because of this. Sorting by hot resulted in nothing but memes, and it was driving me crazy that they were doing the whole “post old memes” thing.

Bongles,

I just unsubscribed too, probably until that feed update that’s getting worked on. I figure they’ll still be in all if I want them but I wasn’t seeing anything else in my subscribed feed.

southsamurai, in What movie did you rewatch most often?

Over my entire life, Spaceballs.

It’s my comfort movie. I saw it when it came out on VHS back in the day, and it just killed me. Still does, particularly Candy’s bits. I fucking miss that guy.

As an adult, as lame as it may seem, it’s a tie between the first Avengers movie and Fight Club.

Battle for Wesnoth. Best.Game.Ever (slight exaggeration)

joshinator, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

I think the main difficulty with Linux desktops is this “all or nothing” approach to the OS.

Recently got a Steam Deck and most of the games really just work, but that’s a handheld where I play solo. On desktop I mostly play online with friends.
I really don’t want to constantly switch OS depending on the anticheat situation when we play something else.
And then there is software (fusion360, simhub) & hardware (3d mouse, joysticks, ffb wheel, maybe VR?) that just works on Windows.

So instead of maintaining Windows & Linux on dualboot I just stick with Windows on the desktop.
And I used Linux for a long time on my laptop (and can’t wait to ditch MacOS), still use it on servers, but the desktop is just a whole different beast.

jamiehs,

Well said. I’m in a similar situation with the Sim Racing stuff. Also my daughter plays Genshin Impact and my son is just getting into StarCraft 2;

SC2 works flawlessly under Proton apparently, but Genshin not so much (anti-cheat stuff it seems). So if you share a gaming PC the question becomes even trickier to answer.

freeman,

This is very close to where I’m at.

I could see using Linux as a daily driver for work and flipping to windows for games if work had a stipend or Byod option. But otherwise I seem to tend to stick to one or the other.

That said I do keep a Linux distro on my laptop mainly for gimp and kdenlive for making videos from my drone recordings for a buddy.
