kromem, in Can lemmy be used as a blog (with comment section)?

Yes. IIRC it’s even discussed in the official docs. Basically just limit post creation on the server and allow comments.

The nice thing about open source is that in the future there might even be add-ons that better format it for blog display vs thread display.

FirstWizardZorander,

I was just thinking that. You could either implement a way to render the linked content as an article, or allow more rich formatting in the text body itself.

DharkStare, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I still use it. The HFY community is still on Reddit and I enjoy reading the stories.

The API changes haven’t really affected my experience since I always browsed Reddit on my desktop through the browser.

Thedragslay, in What's your real-life superpower?

Not really a super power, but I’m deaf since birth, hearing aids since 3 months old, and I can read lips from ten feet away, which means that I can follow a conversation perfectly fine bc I can read lips, while everyone else has to have someone shouting in their ear from a foot away in noisy environments.

XmarkiertdenSpot,
@XmarkiertdenSpot@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Okay, story time? Have you ever read lips to a conversation and learned some juicy gossip?!

Thedragslay,

Haha, if I have, it never made it into my memory. But I did have an FM system for school as a kid. Sort of like a microphone the teacher wore around their neck that streamed the audio directly to my hearing aids. The signals could go far. If the teacher forgot to mute it or turn it off, I’d hear the sounds of them going to the bathroom down the hallway. Which was super irritating when I was trying to focus on my notes.

claytempleton, in Have you ever had Detroit-style pizza?

I make them at home because most pizza in Sacramento sucks.

Cethin, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

I had a web result that the result I was looking for was on Reddit. I guess that’s technically using it, but I wasn’t logged in and didn’t touch anything. It still counts as a visitor though, and I’m disappointed in that.

8565, in Have you ever had Detroit-style pizza?

Detroit style is the freaking best

eating3645, in Have you ever had Detroit-style pizza?

The best thing about Detroit style is that it’s not Chicago style.

Are you throwing shade at Chicago thin or deep dish?

eating3645,

Deep dish, I’ve never had a Chicago style thin crust - what’s it like?

eating3645,

That looks so much better, saved your comment for my next Chicago visit!

ronflex, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?

When subs started blacking out and the only posts I were seeing on my feed were from r/hamsters, I cut the chord without looking back. My friends have all tried to find workarounds to be able to use reddit without official means like using apps that get the pass for accessibility and I’m just thinking “imagine going out of your way just to access reddit” 😂

The only subreddits I cared about were very few at that point with how shitty reddit had gotten as a whole, so it wasn’t hard.

Joeyfingis, in Have you ever had Detroit-style pizza?

Absolute best I've had is from Wrecktangle Pizza in Minneapolis

MortyMcFry, in I feel like /c/memes has taught us a valuable lesson today: Would it make sense to develop a feature to block a comm from our feed for a selectable unit of time (1 hour, 1 day, etc.)?
@MortyMcFry@aussie.zone avatar

Just unsub if you can’t handle the power of the memes

aRegularNero, in Have you ever had Detroit-style pizza?

Detroiter here! If you’re ever in the detroit/metro detroit area, you gotta try Louie’s pizza or Detroit style pizza company. Both are amazing!

christian,
@christian@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m local but haven’t heard of Louie’s, I’ll have to check it out.

zdrvr,

Louie’s is in fact the best. I wish I lived closer to it. I like Niki’s downtown too.

aRegularNero,

Hazel park is the one I’m usually going to. It’s definitely one of my favorites!

BourbonLaser, in What goes good with American Cheese?

My family has a recipe that uses it to make the sauce creamy and delicious as others have mentioned. It's super quick and easy to make since it's mostly canned foods. It may not be gourmet, but it is definitely comfort food in a pinch. It's called Tallarine.

1lb ground beef
1/2 medium onion diced
2 cloves garlic... or more
1 can stewed italian tomatoes (sometimes I add a can of spicy peppers like jalapeño to be more like a Mexican dish)
1 small can of sliced mushrooms (I usually leave these out)
1 can whole kernel sweet corn
1 small can sliced black olives
1-2c uncooked egg noodles depending on how noodly you like to get
4 slices American Cheese

Brown the beef with onion and garlic. I usually throw in some salt and pepper here. Add all other ingredients except the cheese. Add some water of it's too dry. Cover and cook until the noodles are tp your preference. Add the cheese and stir until melted and mixed.

Haters gonna hate American Cheese "Product", but it can sure make some tasty dishes.

SanndyTheManndy, in What's your real-life superpower?

I can hear the most minute of sounds. Even my kitten walking around downstairs (on a marble floor).

On the other hand, I hear way too much noise and have great trouble understanding speech because of it.

Just last week, it allowed me to hear the spinning of wheels stuck in mud a couple of klicks from my house, while I was eating dinner. Apparently someone got stuck in one of the muddy holes caused by the rains, in the middle of nowhere. Dropped him off at his place, and got the car freed the next day.

apolinariomabussy,
@apolinariomabussy@lemmy.calvss.com avatar

I kind of have the same thing! We have hearing tests at my place of work and the tests show I have above-average hearing, and it does translate outside the tests as well. It’s really nice to be able to hear the intricacies of music for instance.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t translate to speech, and I often struggle to comprehend what people are saying, and it gets even worse when it’s in something that’s not my native language… It’s like I can hear the sounds people are making, inflection and all, but I can’t quite form what the entire thought is.

SanndyTheManndy,

Exactly! Unless I know what language they are speaking in advance, it takes a few seconds of listening for the words to appear out of the noise. Honestly, pretty damn annoying when you’re on a call. I have to record all of them to be safe.

Froyn, in What goes good with American Cheese?
