TimeIntegrated, in Downvotes = “I disagree” or “this is bad and you should feel bad”?

Downvotes should be for off topic posts/comments or spam.

Disagreement is best communicated by replying saying you disagree and why. It’s a discussion forum. Talk.

SwingingTheLamp, in What is the most unhelpful advice you have received?

And not me directly, but some years ago when my friend and I were both desperately seeking work, and running up against the “you need experience to get a job to gain experience” conundrum. His mentor told him to stop being so precious, and get a boring corporate job with a pension, maybe one that would pay his law school tuition. It wasn’t a thing yet, but wow, it would have been the perfect time to reply, “OK, Boomer.”

ZombieTheZombieCat,

That’s like when they tell you to “pound the pavement” and ask to speak to the manager when you bring back your hard copy job application in person. It’s hard to even continue a conversation with someone who’s that out of touch.

funnyletter,

Oof this is like every bit of job advice my dad has ever given me. He means well but he also hasn’t job searched since like 1975.

This is why we can't have nice things!

sadreality,

People doing this are not part of the "we" here

Malicious actors and OG shit posters, we are not the same.

leap123, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?
@leap123@lemmy.world avatar

Sometimes. I’m very active on Reddit before the Reddit API change. I have moved to Lemmy since. Since Reddit is blocked in Indonesia, I usually use it as a secondary platform. I just checked it once in a while when using a VPN or using DNS-on-HTTPS.

saba, in Can lemmy be used as a blog (with comment section)?
godless, in What movie did you rewatch most often?
@godless@latte.isnot.coffee avatar

The Boondock Saints or The Matrix for me, both way over a dozen times.

Xylinna,
@Xylinna@lemmy.world avatar

So many good lines/references in Boondock Saints between the rope, the cat, and Willem Dafoe. Fantastic movie, sequels were kinda of meh.

TheSaneWriter, in Lemmy.world is down because of a DDOS attack

Damn, hackers are being really uncool towards lemmy.world. Hopefully some good can come from this and they can implement robust security systems that help protect Lemmy instances from these types of attacks.

jeanofthedead, in Be honest, do you still use reddit?
@jeanofthedead@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, but when I go to my multireddits, it’s a barren desert of absolute n00bs asking questions that can be googled in five seconds. Makes me really miss what it used to be. I hope Lemmy gets more engagement.

JoeKrogan, in Are any of the DNA testing companies trustworthy?
@JoeKrogan@lemmy.world avatar

If you do use one use fake data at least. Temp phone number and throwaway email. Fake name and address if needed. You can rent a P.O box if you need to receive a package.

All they need is the DNA to sequence. The account details won’t make a difference as long as you can access it. You can ask a friend to pay for you and pay them cash or use privacy.com or one of those prepaid debit cards.

small44, in If people using Reddit are called Redditors, then what do we call people who use Lemmy?

Least bad name is lemyrians. I prefer lemmy users

This is warning showing why spreading out is important. No one instance being offline should be able to affect so many Motorheads at once.

Antematter,

Havent heard motorheads before. Thats funny.

Evoke3626,

I don’t get it. How that does have to do with lemmy

I play the Sims without Libby

PonyOfWar, in Can I use Google Play without a Sim card?

Sure, Google Play has nothing to do with your Sim card.

rzlatic, in Can I use Google Play without a Sim card?
@rzlatic@lemmy.ml avatar

yes. use wifi instead of sim-card data and you’re all set. i doubt google play services care which way of data transfer you’re using to access your account on play store.
