rolaulten, in What can a senior desktop support tech do who is burned out?

The best advice I can give is to get away from a front line support role. If you stay in tech you could work your to engineering, sysadmin, data stuff, or project management. If you want to get away from tech go as far as you feel you can (because once people learn your good with computers…).

I’ve been in a support role for 25 years. I can stomach it no longer.

rolaulten,

Then. Honestly. You need to do a radical shift. No matter what part of IT you are in you will still be doing some level of support.

I don’t think I mind the support aspect. I just want to work at higher level than I am currently at where I have more challenge and reward.

RoxActually, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

Yeah for sure. Somedays no, but once you make it part of your routine it gets alot easier to enjoy. I usually listen to podcasts or music to keep my mind more active though and that helps alot, because then you are not thinking solely of the physical exertion on my body.

W1Z_4RD, in What's the hottest and coldest temperature you've ever been in?

118F -42F. Both extremes experienced in northern Nevada.

Prasaedonium, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

I upgraded twice from Redmi note 7 to Redmi note 9 to poco X4, only reason I updated was because my siblings lost their phones and I saw it as an opportunity to try a newer version of something I liked.

I don’t think I’ll upgrade unless the new phone also has an IR blaster and headphone jack. The IR blaster is so incredibly convenient

Yes, of course. But if you don’t enjoy it, you don’t have to do it, or don’t have to do it at the level you’re attempting. There are 1000 ways to be fit and healthy, you don’t have to pick 2 and do them forever. Experiment.

Blizzard, in What's a good alternative to followthatpage.com

VisualPing but it sends you e-mails.

terere_user, in What's the hottest and coldest temperature you've ever been in?

Hottest 48°C (52°C Apparent temperature) Chaco region, Paraguay

Coldest 0°C Paraguay (it doesn’t get extremely cold here)

Blizzard, (edited ) in Do I need to remove metadata from pictures before uploading?

I’d disable attaching metadata to pictures in your phone setting in the first place, especially location.

mp3, in Locked out of main account. 2 factor authentication not working.

  1. Make sure the time and timezone is correctly set on your device, TOTP is time-dependent and both the server and the smartphone needs to have the same time in order to validate the code.
  2. Lemmy uses SHA256 instead of SHA1 like most other websites using TOTP. Honestly I’m not sure Google Authenticator supports it, as I don’t see the option when attempting to add a key manually.

I'm not sure anyone would want to steal your butter.

Butter_My_Buttcheeks,

It’s quality butter

How do you apply it?

PancakedWaffle, in It would be nice if Lemmy had a "hide" option

Lemmy itself has this built into settings as well

Hardeehar, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I only enjoy it after I’m done with it. Never before or during the workout. I still do it, just it’s pulling teeth everyday.

Sigmatics, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

It becomes enjoyable when you are fit. When you are not, your body will hate you, until you are fit enough.

Saneless, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

As I get older, I enjoy it more. It’s a reminder that I’m not as old a bastard as I feel some days, and I know the benefits are real, noticeable, and literally life changing. And at that moment I’m the youngest I’ll ever be for the rest of my life, so it’s a good time to do it.

Maybe I don’t love the specific moment that my muscles are on fire but perspective keeps me happy while doing it

Kyrgizion, in What password manager do you recommend?

My brain. Comes up with the whackiest excuses for why this-and-that password would be a great choice and how easy it would be to remember, only to later explain to me rationally why it was the wrong choice and how I should’ve known I’d forget it. Then again, that’s just extra security. If it’s only stored in my internal memory and even I can’t remember it, no one else is getting in for sure.
