Squirrel, in Does anyone else struggle with silence, particularly when trying to sleep?
@Squirrel@thelemmy.club avatar

I need a fan or white noise. Silence is just “eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee” until I fall asleep.

lom, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I genuinely enjoy it. Especially cardio. Running cycling, doesn’t matter. I almost always love the feelint

Bristlecone,

Preach buddy 🚴

NENathaniel, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

I like having high-end cameras and screens on my phones.

I keep my phones in excellent condition and sell them whenever I upgrade, which doesn’t make it a crazy expensive process.

neko, in What genres of music do Lemmites enjoy?

Cold wave, no wave, post rock, uplifting trance, mutant disco, freak folk

SeaJ, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I have recently started to enjoy taking bike rides. I used to do it before with friends and didn’t mind it but it was not super enjoyable. It likely had to do work the fact that they would always do 40 mile bike rides that had a decent amount of hills. None of us have time for bike rides that long anymore. But a nice 10 mile bike ride is a nice but of time to just clear my head and enjoy looking one way and seeing the Cascades and looking the other way and seeing the Sound and the Olympics.

I have heard of runner’s high and read a good explanation for it that I don’t remember. Regardless, I don’t get runner’s high and honestly hate running. Even with a podcast in, I can’t get myself to like it. It might be a bit better if I did it more often but that is a big hump to get past.

Xiphorang, in What genres of music do Lemmites enjoy?

Most flavours of metal, hard rock, punk, some blues stuff like SRV and Gary Moore. Basically, if it has loud guitars in it, I'm there.

Shurf116, in What genres of music do Lemmites enjoy?

Mostly it’s different subgenres of rock and metal (like 70% of all comments here. Seriously, I’ve never met so many ppl that listen to my favorite music in one place xD).

I kinda have a few moods. For the “fun and energetic” mood I have hard rock and heavy metal, for the “my job is f*cking me and I don’t like it” I have nu metal and some other things that sound angry, for the “fancy” I have a strange mix of P!atD, Franz Ferdinand, some songs that are creepy/sad but sound happy (“I can’t decide”, “Don’t fear the Reaper”, “To The Sea”) and steampunk/dark cabaret/murder song bands (Voltaire, Coppelius, the Cog is Dead, American Murder Song)

Some of my favourite artists:

  • J Dilla
  • Flying Lotus
  • Larry Heard/Mr Fingers
  • The Avalanches
  • Khruangbin

EDIT: Adding City Pop genre as well since I saw another user comment that

2nd EDIT: Oh and Reggae, Dub too!

3rd EDIT: Okay I keep adding artists thinking I can’t believe I left such and such off haha I’ll stop now!

Eccitaze, in What's it like working night shift?
@Eccitaze@yiffit.net avatar

I worked graveyard shifts at a gas station for a year or two. My general experience beyond what other people have said–good commute, fucking with your social life, taking its toll on your body, all that–is that working graveyard shifts is lonely. I cannot understate how lonely it got; there were stretches of multiple hours where there were no customers at all, and it was just me and the long list of nightly chores I had to do (mopping floors, prepping food for breakfast rush, restocking shelves, etc., etc.). Not having any human contact at all fucks with your head something fierce, especially when you mix in sleep deprivation and your body rebelling against the normal sleep rhythm into the mix.

My advise is that if you’re going to be working night shift all alone, get into podcasts. Having a radio that I could use to listen to NPR was the main thing that kept me sane, because I could at least have a human voice to listen to and keep my mind somewhat engaged.

StimulatedYorkie, in What genres of music do Lemmites enjoy?

Drake, 90s rap, classic rock and Tame Impala.

Hikermick, in Why is youtube recommending conservative "talking points" to me?

Oneeightnine, in What's it like working night shift?
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

I worked nights for fifteen straight years and honestly, it isn’t all bad… Provided you get the sleep sorted. The amount of people who rolled up thinking they could survive on 4 hours of sleep a day was pretty disturbing.

vis4valentine, in How do you enjoy listening to digital content? Speakers? Headphones? Earbuds?
@vis4valentine@lemmy.ml avatar

I love earbuds.
