xarexyouxmadx, in Do you think Jon Stewart should run for president of the United States?

I think the US would be better off to finally have a president who is one of them. Meaning not rich or famous. Just a regular working class person who isn’t well connected.

Seems like every president is rich, well connected, famous or totally bought off and they all end up running the country basically the same way. The only thing that ever changes is the surface level Idpol/who they pander to.

someguy3, in Can anyone here get Gboard to gesture type "Lemmy"?

My attempts: Kent Lenny Lemmy Lenny Lemmy lemmy.

PanoptiDon, in Do you think Jon Stewart should run for president of the United States?

I’ve been saying this for years

ClydapusGotwald, in Whats this on my dog?

My old dog has lumps but none like that. I’d go to the vet.

I’m not opposed to it. He would be an upgrade.

jubilationtcornpone, (edited ) in Do you think Jon Stewart should run for president of the United States?

I grew up watching Jon on The Daily Show. You can love Jon or you can hate him. But that guy used his celebrity status, as well as his own effort, to repeatedly shame, cajole, arm twist, plead with, and petition Congress to fund medical care for the 9/11 first responders. Many of whom suffered long term health issues due to exposure to hazardous materials.

He went to Washington with a group of said first responders and chased down as many Congressmen/women as they could find. He appeared before Congress to testify in support of legislation multiple times.

He did far more for those people than anyone else would. There are plenty of people in the world with power and influence. But there aren’t a hell of a lot of them that would use that influence like a fucking hammer to pound out some justice for a bunch of people with no expectation of getting anything in return. For that, he earned my respect.

AquaTofana, in Honestly - How much will you sacrifice for a better world?

My husband and I don’t have kids, and we’ve severely cut back (not fully cut out yet), but really cut back on our meat consumption. I also avoid buying plastic whenever possible, and buy things like toilet paper/paper towels/regular linens made from recycled materials. Actually, if I have the option to buy anything made from recycled materials I’ll typically opt for that. That’s about it right now.

Only tangentially related to your question, but I’m also in a Master degree program for Public Administration so when I retire from the military I can roll right into law school. My goal is to become a Public Defender, which, I know, is fucking hard work with a lot of burn out for little pay, but I do have confidence that I can be an extra pair of hands for an overburdened industry. Everyone in the US is entitled to competent representation, and I’ve no interest in representing those who can afford their own lawyers.

And it burns me up that the rich can often get away with paying simple fines while the poor who can’t afford it go to jail and become essentially legalized slave labor. Fuck that. Anyone I can help save from losing their livelihood, home, family, car, etc, is a big fucking W in my book.

Heir_Of_Isildur,

Thank you for sharing. Good luck with studies and career ambitions!

Swordsmanship.

Whether it’s HEMA or otherwise (as long as it’s not fencing)

notannpc, in Is there an artist whose work you love but was a shitty person?

Johnny Craig, the former lead singer for the band Dance Gavin Dance. Dude has repeatedly fucked up and ripped off fans, but damn did he have a great singing voice.

And for the opposite, T-Pain and Post Malone. Both of them just seem like the coolest, and most chill people but their studio music is just not for me.

girsaysdoom,

Yeah, Johnny Craig definitely has an history of messed up stuff. It makes me glad I prefer Kurt Travis’ vocals.

Sounding.

andrewthe95th, in Is there an artist whose work you love but was a shitty person?

Pantera. Maybe it was Dimebag’s death that caused it, but holy shit Phil is fucking awful.

Blamemeta,

Whatd he do?

Baahb,

shalafi, in Looking for 2000s movie about gang?

Interesting question so I took a shot:

Death Sentence?

www.imdb.com/title/tt0804461/plotsummary/

Cruxifux, in Is there an artist whose work you love but was a shitty person?

I’m really sad that Max Landis is a piece of shit because now we don’t get to see Dirk Gently season 3.

bionicjoey,

I assumed it was because of how poorly written Season 2 was…

I say this as someone who likes Season 2. Bart, Dirk, Amanda, and Farah are all terribly underutilized in S2

Cruxifux,

I loved season 2

bionicjoey,

Alan Tudyk is awesome in it. And I really like Ken’s arc. I just wish Dirk didn’t spend literally the whole season complaining about how dangerous he is. It’s such a tone shift from the first season.
