randon31415, in Why in the year 2024 and with all the knowledge humans have now do people still believe in religion?

Why do you think it is the year 2024? (Same answer as your question.)

pineapplelover, in Is there a search engine for news?

Not a search engine, but I found this website a while back and it’s pretty cool.

ground.news/blindspot

JimmyBigSausage,

Too much right wing bs.

BaroqueInMind,
@BaroqueInMind@kbin.social avatar

Looks like you failed to understand "blind spot". It shows shit that is not covered or read by you due to your own own biases, it literally helps you not stay in your echo own chamber.

theodewere,
@theodewere@kbin.social avatar

it's a right wing bs site for morons

BaroqueInMind, (edited )
@BaroqueInMind@kbin.social avatar

Either I am a moron and did not realize this since it only shows me left-wing news because that's all I prefer to read, or I am still a moron however you are making a conclusion with zero facts and spreading misinformation.

troydowling, in If you could have any game remade by a studio of your choice, who would you want working on what?

ToonStruck, remastered, or the shelved sequel ressurected. I’d like Burst to (exist again and) handle the development because they did a fantastic job the first time around!

Tattorack, in Which of your favorite creators content quality went downhill very quickly?
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

VSauce. They used to be THE shit years and years ago. Their content now has been… Rather sparce and uninteresting.

I don’t mind content that takes a long time. Ahoy and Lemmino are great. But VSauce just became… Feeling like a waste of time.

hactar42,

Seems like they never recovered after the whole YouTube Red exclusive stuff they did. I was glad they came back, but you’re right, it just doesn’t hit the same.

hushable,

Their Red exclusive show was such a disappointment, I stopped following them after that

spaduf,

Is that the one where we got to watch his Ayahuasca trip cause of so I almost say it was worth it just for that.

ani, (edited )

Lemmino are great

idk I didn’t like latest Lemmino topics. I’d like seeing a new video on a space mystery

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

But he already made those in top 10 format. There isn’t much “mystery” to talk about without hyping up certain things like science journalism tends to do a lot.

He could make a documentary that goes into deeper details about one of the things he already mentioned in his older top 10 videos…

ani,

I didn’t watch the top 10 videos because this format doesn’t appeal to me. Topics like why there is a universe/anything at all, what is beyond the observable universe, how the universe will end, etc are the greatest mysteries and deserve their own videos.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Top 10 videos aren’t typically my thing either. But Lemmino is next level. His top 10 videos are very well informed, and before he started making actual documentaries, only got longer and longer. It got to the point where every entry in a top 10 vid was like a mini documentary on its own.

InternetCitizen2,

Platform has grown and they just arnt the only game in town.

pete_the_cat,

I just learned that they have Vsauce 2, 3 and 4 but it’s not with Michael, so not as good.

dangblingus,

Remember when they had all 3 channels firing on all cylinders? Vsauce for mind blowing science videos, Vsauce2 for awesome shorter format wtf internet widget videos, and Vsauce3 for gaming science stuff. One of the best eras of YT.

Fisk400,

I think Vsauce is a lot more grifty than he looks. If you look at the really early videos they were very different and he changed his content wildly in order to find something that makes the most money with the least work. The science education happened to be profitable but as the Meta started favouring more than 10+ min and science vids became mini documentaries he just dropped off and started reviewing science toys and do compilation videos. Right now he is doing a lot of shorts because they are being pushed by the algorithm.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I started watching VSauce well over 10 years ago, so I’ve experienced how his content changed first-hand. I feel VSauce dropped off when Michael became an internet meme, when VSauce made it “big”. They got their own studio, their own merch box, and I thought this was going to be an upgrade to the content between VSauce 1, 2 and 3. But then Michael made that YouTube Red series and that was basically a brick wall.

Only Jake Roper still made some good videos for some time, but that stopped eventually too. Mindblow stopped, Build It, Draw It, Play It stopped. Instead of seeing anything that would justify having a studio and a team to work with we basically got, like you said, Michael reviewing toys from their merch box, and Kevin doing some math philosophy once in a while.

Mindblow is technically back but… it lacks any energy or soul that the original Mindblow had. It’s sad…

Caradoc879,

His side gigs are super grifty. Curiosity box was a straight scam. Two months delayed and full of shifty products that break or fall apart trying to assemble them.

yamanii,
@yamanii@lemmy.world avatar

Vsauce2 is still good and mindblown just recently came back, Kevin basically said on his podcast that the mindblown videos just take too much time to research for something that’s presented extremely fast and short, since he’s not a tabloid making wildly innacurate reporting on science papers.

  • The Bread Circus
    • They go through the Star Wars movies from a book lore perspective, point out flaws in the writing and lore-breaking, and offer suggestions on how the sequels could have been handled differently. They did The Last Jedi, and I really enjoyed it. They also have some cool videos on podracing, ships, and guns.
  • Defunctland
    • History of Disney rides, takes the culture of the time into consideration, the video on queues is a must-watch, imo.
  • Draw Like a Sir
    • Really solid drawing tutorials that aren’t very complicated, takes the time to break down high-level concepts into simple exercises. Overall a really fun channel to watch, even if you’re not into drawing.
  • Fredrik Knudson
    • Long, deep-dive videos into internet history/culture. Rare uploads, but a banger every time.
  • James Lee
    • Newgrounds-era animator with amazing compositing techniques and a very unique animation style where he inserts himself into his videos as a very animated caricature of himself.
  • Lemmino
    • Like the History Channel but without the fluff. Cool topics, very nice animations, high production, high-quality content.
  • MattKC
    • Known for a Lego Island decompilation project. Also does retro console repair from time to time — very fun watch.
  • Paper Will
    • Rare uploads. but interesting video essay topics. High quality and a nice watch during lunch.
  • Pecos Hank
    • A storm chaser who is Reed Timmer’s ying to his yang. Very chill, documentary-quality footage featuring himself playing guitar and talking about the beauty and power of nature. You’ve probably seen his footage on the Weather Channel!
  • Technology Connections
    • Great deep dives into random technology, old and new. The video on the popcorn button on microwaves is really good (I think that may be on his second channel?)

Swiss guy restores random stuff to better than new. Posts about 4 or 5 times a year, but the quality is up to 11

IWantToFuckSpez, (edited ) in Does France have a terrorism problem?

France has a social classes problem. There is class segregation everywhere. If you are poor you live in a neighborhood where everyone is poor and since everyone is poor there isn’t enough money to invest in the neighborhood. So these neighborhoods are neglected. As a result many poor youths are unable to climb the social ladder and thus some will end up living a life of crime. And so it happens that many migrants who came to France and Western Europe as a whole were poor. Since Western Europe wanted cheap labor. Sweden has the same problems as France with their migrants. Since many cities in Sweden are also segregated along the classes.

nurple, (edited )
@nurple@lemmy.world avatar

Genuine question: Are there any countries that aren’t segregated by income? Because I think that’s been true of everywhere I’ve ever been.

bjoern_tantau,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

Saw a documentary about Vienna the other day. They have state sponsored housing that is cheap or free and nice to look at and situated together in rich neighbourhoods to work against segregation.

Don’t know if this is the case for all of Vienna or Austria.

Justas,
@Justas@sh.itjust.works avatar

Eastern Europe in general can be like that. You can have grandmas living next door to rich families.

That is slowly changing, however, as the rich move to secluded spots in the countryside, middle class moves to the suburbs and the super poor move to the dachas. The flats in the cities are still getting more expensive somehow.

dangblingus, in Which YouTuber still creates high-quality videos to this day?

Dunkey. Mind you, he just had a kid so I think he’s put out some lower (but not phoned in) effort videos in the last couple of months, but his comedic voice and the banal way he mocks games and gamers has always been consistent.

deus,

His mockery is entertaining but I live for his occasional honest and positive reviews.

Hey all! Scott here

dangblingus,

Scott needs to go back to making 12 minute videos. I can’t deal with 45 minute - 2 hour long videos of him talking about the Virtual boy.

XEAL, in Best GPT

The most productive thing I used the free ChatGPT web was to expand a Python 3 script that I was using to run a custom ChatGPT with a Gradio web ui that worked with OpenAI’s API.

I learned quite a lot of Python from almost zero and improved the script to work with LangChain Tools, for instance with a custom recursive summarizer.

Uncensored Llama2 70B has the most flexibility as far as a model without training IMO. The mixtral 8×7B is a close second with faster inference and only minor technical issues compared to the 70B. I don’t like the tone of mixtral’s alignment.

Code snippets in Python, bash scripting, nftables, awk, sed, regex, CS, chat, waifu, spell check, uncompromised search engine, talking recipes/cooking ideas, basically whatever I feel like.
