Treczoks, in Why do Germans have no sense of humour?

Germans do have humor. It is actually not that different from English humor in style.

The idea that Germans have no humor comes from a number of reasons. To understand a foreign joke, you need a thorough grasp of that language. And this applies to any foreign language - I could not understand e.g. a French joke, but I would not deny that they most likely love humor, too.

Then, most English or American peoples impression of Germans stem from times of war or shortly after - only a small minority bothered to update their views later. During the war, allied propaganda had obviously different goals than promote German humor or Germans as funny people. And people in the early years of post-war Germany had not much to laugh about in life, their prime job was to survive in less than funny circumstances.

Pixel Dungeon is a great pickup/putdown game. Highly recommend.

Briict, in People who own typewriters, what is your favorite use for it?
@Briict@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

If I remember right I have a royal quiet deluxe, I use it for notes I don’t want a digital record of like medical or other personal notes. Also every once in a while I’ll make a wall decoration, people seem to love them.

Briict,
@Briict@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

A recent one I made because someone left a paint brush I loaned them in a bit of paint.

Wow, that’s so cool! You turned an accident into something that looks like it was purposely made that way.

There is a special novelty in a mechanically typed page.

Briict,
@Briict@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Thanks, you can tell it really got under my skin because I bothered to center my type, I don’t like centering my type. It’s a bitch to center type, lol

But yeah very novel right now, like the other comment mentions choice of stationary, I like using cotton paper. Really leaves an impression.

Usernameblankface,
@Usernameblankface@lemmy.world avatar

Come to think of it, how do you go about centering on a manual typewriter?

Briict, (edited )
@Briict@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I get my lines character count, tab to center (or -10, -20 tab) then backspace to the right count. If I think it’ll make it look cleaner I sometimes mix a double space in or ignore punctuation marks from my count, I don’t mind them hanging past the rest like I would an M.

PS I thought I remembered messing it up right after I started and sure enough if you look at line three of that picture it’s pretty out there lol

driving_crooner, (edited ) in Why aren't modern 3D platformers as good as the PS2 era of 3D platformers?
@driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br avatar

Thing better when I was a teen that now that im adult. It also works for music and basically everything.

Lafari,

Everyone knows the 3D platformer genre died out and people stopped putting effort into them as much, so it would be more like if someone had a favourite genre of music that went out of fashion and was hard to find anymore.

Lafari,

It’s not that. I’m going to have to edit my post now because I was already considering writing that disclaimer. It’s not a nostalgia thing. There are literally no 3rd person shooter 3D platformers outside of PS2 and those are the kinds of 3D platformers I enjoy most… give me an example to prove me wrong

Dedh,

I’m not sure I understand - what would you call Banjo-Kazooie? Or even Super Mario 64? What do you mean by “3d platformer”? Like “open world” kinda game?

I buy from online stores (eg, clothing, jewelry, beauty) who don’t use amazon, and fortunately I’ve never seen evidence of amazon involved in those purchases. I admire your efforts to find alternatives from that awful company

Make sure you go to Settings and select any languages you want to see as well as Undetermined - I had a similar issue which was fixed by doing this.

If that’s not it, it may be a delay in comments federating if it’s a community you just recently subscribed to, or there could be federation issues. If the post is on an instance that’s defederated with yours, I don’t think it would show up at all, unless the defederation happened after it was made.

You can check who an instance has defederated with by checking the Instances link at the bottom of the mane page (or adding /instances after the URL). There’s also a tool to see what other instances have defederated with a particular one here: defed.xyz

andrew_bidlaw, in What is the best option to provide for people who are homeless in the cold?
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

I thought about a lot of variants, but I stopped at a gas can, a simple device to make the gas out and a basic tripod to weight a pot over it. If they have it, they can boil water for tea or just clean water, food bought in bulk in a grocery store, to wash themselves.

It greatly depends on what they have for now. Maybe a tent is in more priority if they don’t have one, or even something to lay on.

foggy, in How do I avoid Amazon when orders from other sites get fulfilled by Amazon?

Vendors fulfil through Amazon because they handle returns.

Even big stores utilize them for this.

Suffice to say, it is difficult unless you’re outside the US.

JackGreenEarth, in What do normal people look at on their phones?

I am certainly not normal, but I either go on Lemmy through Voyager, or play geometry dash. I also sometimes read books with Librera.
