spittingimage, in What song you got on repeat right now?

Superhero, by Kormac. It’s a little out there, nothing I could actually describe as lyrics, but it makes me dance a little in my seat.

There’s low level constant pain that’s not easily comparable to anything else, which gets worse the day after any adjustments are done. And make sure you get a retainer you can wear each night.

My mistake was not asking for an alternative retainer, and grinding teeth at night kept breaking my retainers until it got too expensive to keep getting new ones. Now I’ll have to get braces or Invisalign or something to redo the straightening.

Good news is, I can still eat better than I could before I got braces.

In other news, seeing the Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist about my sinuses ended up curing the grinding along with mouth breathing and swollen sinuses.

Dave Mustaine is a particularly irritating fascist, would be nice id he didn’t get royalties

ladytaters, in What song you got on repeat right now?

Herald of Darkness by the Old Gods of Asgard. It’s an incredible piece from Alan Wake 2 and the band behind the song is an in universe version of the Poets of the Fall, a fantastic Finnish band.

shinigamiookamiryuu, in Comments on Ganges River?

It’s quite dirty for that right now, don’t you think?

Unless it’s secretly Opposite Day and I’m reading this post wrong.

Ensign_Crab, (edited ) in What is your unpopular flim opinion

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians is a cyberpunk movie.

Mars is a dystopian, broken society in which cyberware is so ubiquitous that we only ever see one Martian without visible augmentation. Every character in the movie does what they do for purely selfish reasons, with the exception of the idiot Droppo, the old man Chochem who remembers society for what it was before it went to hell, and the mythological embodiment of generosity himself. When Chochem suggests that Mars needs a Santa Claus, the immediate response isn’t to research and emulate St. Nick, nope. Martian society is so degenerate that the first idea is to commit a crime: to kidnap the jolly old elf. And all of Earth’s governments are incapable of stopping them.

Cyberware, broken society, selfish characters, rampant crime, laughably inadequate government? What genre does that sound like?

When I pointed out that Santa Claus Conquers the Martians predates Blade Runner, the film that most people consider to be the first cyberpunk movie, by some 18 years, at a tabletop session of Cyberpunk 2020, I was less than popular with those assembled.

I decided to not press my luck by pointing out that it came out 4 years before the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

Hooray for Santy Claus.

Shyfer,

Never even heard of this movie, but I’m convinced.

shinigamiookamiryuu, in What's a webcomic that should just end already?

As much as I love Obelis’ comics (and her as a friend), for years she’s been going in circles with one serial that is her talking about childhood acceptance and two which have a rich world but with the same themes being rebrought up routinely. She knows this and jokes about it sometimes, and I’m not judging her as I know her reasons. I’m just saying any successful reason to change course would be enjoyed.

redimk, in Out of all the cars you've owned, which one holds a special place in your heart as the absolute favourite.
@redimk@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I had a Chevrolet Vitara (for Venezuela… for US people it would be a Suzuki Vitara) that my father bought in 1998 and gave me when I was 17.

First car I “owned”, used for 6 years, never had to repair it or anything at all, took me everywhere without problems and since it was a small 2 door it fit everywhere.

I took my friends with it, my parents, traveled with it, etc. Also, surprisingly, we never had to do any repairs to the car since 1998 up until 2021 when my dad sold it because it was almost dead. That car was the best and I miss it.

Then I got a Dodge Dakota from 2002, it was good but I didn’t like it as much as the Vitara.

Now I drive a VW Gol (2005), good car, a little fucked up.

CADmonkey,

Dear old Dad had a Chevy Tracker, which is yet another name for Suzuki Vitara. He loved that thing and drove it almost a half million kilometers. Then he traded it on a Subaru that was basically done for in 240,000 km.

My wife got hers last year and is turning 30 soon. No one cares, and any comments she gets are people liking the colors she picked.

Remember, 99% of people you encounter are so self involved they won’t notice or remember something you think is super noticeable.

Buy a water flosser, though, because you absolutely have to brush and floss twice a day when you have them.

No idea but I know one I wish would start up again. The hilarious My Filing Technique Is Unstoppable by David Rees.

Nacktmull, in What could my upstairs neighbor possibly be doing to make this much noise?
@Nacktmull@lemmy.world avatar

Sounds like there are actually people living there. Naturally people don’t just sit all day, they also move around their flat. People in the flat below yours hear you too when you walk. Better get used to it …

NightAuthor,

I’ve lived in 3 other apartments without this particular issue, noise yes, but not like this. Also, it’s not just walking… they literally don’t stop moving for hours straight. It kinda sounds like they are walking laps around the entire perimeter of the apartment, we have the same floorplan and I can clearly hear them moving from room to room to room. I’m honestly curious what they could be doing.

dan1101,

Maybe they are exercising indoors? Or just have some sort of manic energy they are trying to dissipate.

intensely_human,

I guess OP will never know. There’s no possible way to know what his neighbors are up to. Too bad it’s hidden knowledge that will never be revealed.

Only if treadmills move around the apartment, though I’ve never seen that before
