ImFresh3x, (edited ) in what are your fun, low stakes new year resolutions?

I’m gonna start doing my Duolingo more. Even if it’s just a few minutes at bedtime.

shinigamiookamiryuu, in What is your favorite anthropology documentary?

There’s a documentary I saw that documented what people in prehistoric times were doing right before they were preserved. For example, there’s one part of it taking place in sixty thousand BC about a little girl who got polio when she was young, and it chronicles how her parents must’ve cared for her because they binge-fed her delicious berries, as seen by the teeth evidence. It’s nice to know people were “remembering the human” even before humans existed and they inspired a few elaborate works of art I made depicting those scenes.

If you can remember the name, I’d love to check it out. I was a mortician for a decade and was obsessed with stuff like that as a little girl. I have a plethora of knowledge about this stuff but you can never know too much

owenfromcanada, in Current and Former (Fast) Food Service Workers - How do you handle requests like “All the fries you can give me”?
@owenfromcanada@lemmy.world avatar

I worked at a Canadian burger place with notably orange trays. Got asked for all sorts of things. Tons of pickles was probably the most common–I think I piled a good 3 inches on one once (probably 30 or so long slices). It didn’t occur often enough to be a problem.

ohlaph, in I am to celebrate new years eve alone. How can I celebrate solo?

A few ideas come to mind

  • Video games
  • Scary movies
  • Exercise
  • Chores
  • Read a book
  • Other hobbies

  • Kacarott,

    This seems incredibly adult to me 😅

    intensely_human, in How do you grow your Twitch/YouTube Channels?

    I have no idea.

    I started out playing a star wars dogfighting game, and just started using twitch to record my matches so I could analyze and improve my dogfighting.

    Most watchers I ever got was 7.

    Now, 2.5 years later, that game is dead (which sucks because it’s fucking awesome) and I play other stuff, and I have exactly one fan who sometimes shows up.

    I have maybe twenty followers, but apparently only one of them still likes watching me.

    And that one is plenty for me. I literally just like the fact that someone is watching me game.

    My channel doesn’t include talking at all. All I do is play games. I do that because I’ve always wanted to see gameplay videos of games to see whether I’d like to play, and you can only find videos with some dude babbling constantly over it.

    snek, (edited ) in Why is *all* of Lemmy filled with Anti Israel content?
    @snek@lemmy.world avatar

    #;dr Because Israel is breaking international law.

    Are you stalking my profile now lol?

    snek,
    @snek@lemmy.world avatar

    Maybe. Why? Does it bother you if people call out Israel?

    Fitik,
    @Fitik@fedia.io avatar

    Not really, there's a lot of propoganda online so it's completely understandable to me

    I do find it concerning tho when a person first says that I should stop saying "bullshit" and then goes on as far to stalk my profile for my past posts

    snek, (edited )
    @snek@lemmy.world avatar

    Well, in my defence, a lot of what you are saying IS bullshit.

    sagrotan,
    @sagrotan@lemmy.world avatar

    I had a look into it and have to say: you got a point. OP still has to learn some things, but where’s life there is hope.

    snek,
    @snek@lemmy.world avatar

    It’s funny because in the post they said that anti Israeli content bothers them, but they claim it doesn’t. I think it bothers them a lot. But what should bother them more is apartheid in Israel and genocide in the name of the Jewish people.

    Eat more fish.

    jace525, in Which of the U.S. national parks in this image do you think is the most worth visiting? There are three exceptions.

    I’ve done quite a bit of camping in the UP of Michigan and have been really impressed by how much beauty can be found up there. Doing Pictured Rocks, Tahquamenon Falls, and Kitch-iti-kipi on a 4 day weekend trip is pretty incredible. So I’d do Isle Royale and hot up a few more landmarks while being up there. Sounds like a good clean inexpensive trip!

    itsgroundhogdayagain, in Which of the U.S. national parks in this image do you think is the most worth visiting? There are three exceptions.

    I live in VA and I find Shenandoah to be the most boring national park I’ve visited. Unless you can catch it during foliage season, I’d go somewhere else. That said, Skyline Drive is a mess during foliage season. Great Smoky Mountains is nice.

    intensely_human, in What is your favorite part of the day?

    When I get home from work and open my door.

    I’m in my 40s and have just recently achieved “having my own place” for the first time in my life, and it’s so incredible.

    I love having a sanctuary, a place that I am guaranteed to be able to unwind.

    For the first couple months after I moved in here, any time a door would slam in the building, I’d think “Oh darn they’re home”.

    Because my whole life before this, alone time was something I got when whoever I was living with happened to be out. I therefore couldn’t control the alone time, and it could end without warning at any time. I’d be in my unwinding phase, recuperating from life and social contact, and then slam the front door would close and my mom, or my roommate, or whoever, would be home.

    So now, my favorite part of the day is when my commute is over, and I open the door to my apartment, and it’s just so … mine. Like every aspect of the place is a reflection of a decision I made. I finally have a home.

    wintermute_oregon, in Is there a forum for people who are lonely and sad but specifically not incel sickos?

    Move to Oregon. This is the most social place I have ever lived. I get into a conversation everywhere I go if I want it or not. They love to chat here.

    dingus, in Is there a forum for people who are lonely and sad but specifically not incel sickos?

    I feel you, man. I had never been able to make connections in my entire life and so I always sought it out online.

    A decade or so ago I was hitting up forums to interact with others. Now, I use Discord. A word of warning…Discord is primarily filled with young teens, which can feel a bit awkward and creepy if you’re an adult. And I just don’t relate to problems that teens do anymore like school and the like.

    I specifically search for communities like 18+, 21+, 25+, etc. servers so I can relate to everyone more and feel more comfortable. There are some websites out there that provide listings of public Discord servers. So I generally google around until I find ones that look interesting and try them out. You might have to join quite a few until there is one that suits you, but I’d recommend it.

    TheSlad, in I am to celebrate new years eve alone. How can I celebrate solo?

    Eat a healthy homemade dinner, go to bed early, sleep well, and wake up the next day feeling great and ready to take on the new year.
