fakir, (edited ) in Honestly - How much will you sacrifice for a better world?

Call me a coward, but I’m more of a problem solver. Within these tinted walls of depression, if I squint really hard, I can see the light in the corner. Yes, I do see the light. Don’t kill yourself, you’re more valuable just being there for your brothers, or better still, helping create the world we all want. We have no choice but to accept the current reality, and live with it every day, but still - keep your chin up, & keep working towards the future you want.

WhoresonWells, in What are the odds of getting a passing grade by sheer guessing here?

I see some correct solutions for the 50% case here already, so this reply is going for a perfect score within two tries.

There are 16 ways to answer the quiz, one of which is correct. Assuming you don’t repeat your previous answers, two attempts give you a 2/16 or 1/8 chance that one of them is perfect.

Now if you get feedback between your attempts, you should be able to do better. Let’s see by how much and break it into cases:

  1. Your first guess is already perfect. This happens 1/16 of the time. No further guessing is needed.
  2. Your first guess is 50% correct. This happens 3/8 of the time. Picking one of the unguessed answers improves your score to 100% 1/6 of the time.
  3. Your first guess is completely wrong. This happens 9/16 of the time. Picking different answers for both questions wins 1/9 of the time.

So the overall chance of a perfect score is the weighted sum of these cases or 1/16 + (3/8 * 1/6) + (9/16 * 1/9) = 3/16.

Nyx. Her children are all the personifications of various negative aspects of life. I‘ve got a bit of a pessimistic attitude. Just seems fitting.

marx2k, in What is your favorite hobby?

Sourdough breads, brewing beer and wine, growing mushrooms, hydroponics, soapmaking, brewing kombucha, making kefir (both kinds), growing marijuana, back yard chickens, gardening, growing sprouts for weekly harvest…

Last night I pondered out loud about a getting a bigger house to get more room for hobbies :/

Adramis,

hydroponics

Do you have any recommendations for a beginners guide?

Obi,

I don’t have a guide but a simple rockwool system is great and pretty easy to manage. Results are explosive.

marx2k,

Search “kratky system”. For real i mix 5 gallons of nutrient solution, put it into a 5 gallon bucket, drop 3 plants into that bucket and do nothing else…

This is 2 buckets, 6 plants in front of my grow tent with a 16oz bottle for scale.

Mr_Blott,

Can we all come and live with you? We’ll help out

marx2k,

I need a BIGGER house, not smaller!

Obi,
@Obi@sopuli.xyz avatar

Well if we all participate we can get a bigger house. I feel like a commune is forming.

marx2k,

I’m totally down for that

MigratingtoLemmy,

That’s just brilliant. I was interested in hydroponics too, but quickly realised that economically speaking, I’d be better off purchasing my vegetables anyway.

I’d love to learn how to make sauces though

Kolanaki, (edited ) in What are the odds of getting a passing grade by sheer guessing here?
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

During standardized testing, because I hated math, I always just bubbled in my answers at random on the Scantron and still got average marks for it like half the time.

Later in high school I also learned that in a multiple choice questionnaire, C is the most commonly correct answer so if you just answer C on everything your odds of getting a passing grade are pretty high. Legit were told to just answer C when we didn’t know in a class preparing us for an academic decathlon.

Treczoks, in If You Had to Worship or be the Champion of an Ancient Greek God/Goddess Which One Would You Pick?

I’d pick Apollo, the most sciency guy of the bunch.

DarkMessiah, in Honestly - How much will you sacrifice for a better world?

I would actually sacrifice everything I have, up to and including my life.

It wouldn’t do a damn thing, but if it would, you wouldn’t even have to ask.

shinigamiookamiryuu, in What are some things that you have experienced in fever dreams that don't actually exist in real life?

For lifestyle reasons, my sense of dreaming is very, very weak and can only remember one time I went to a school I didn’t go to as the most surreal. To be fair it looked like Hogwarts though.

Talos for the win!

Urist, (edited ) in What are some things that you have experienced in fever dreams that don't actually exist in real life?
@Urist@lemmy.ml avatar

I often get subjected to some weird non-euclidean geometry that makes me dizzy. Of course I usually get dizzy from being sick, but my imagination makes my dreams really weird to explain why.

paddirn, in What are your "poor person" money life hacks?

You can save money if you go without eating at least one meal a day.

pdxfed,

Coffee and half a banana and aim for dinner.

Eat at work if you can. Coffee at work if you can save time and money.

CmdrShepard,

It’s probably good advice to eat at least one meal a day
