Start launching nukes into space in all directions. Don’t stop until someone outside Earth complains.

Or maybe just transmit a radio signal that says “Marco.”

garbagebagel, in Short(er) people of Lemmy--what are some lifehacks you figured out that've helped you out?

I bought a standing desk for my posture issues. It’s also too low when at the lowest setting so I had to transfer my bath stool to my desk and now I need to go buy an actual squatty potty cause I hate not reaching the ground from the toilet.

It’s perfect though because actual stools are too tall for sitting at a desk and a little bath stool like this has been perfect for my posture.

youRFate, in Where are some good places I can buy metric tape measures

Germany.

NewPerspective, in What companies have made your blacklist?

Most of them

Marsey_Enjoyer, in Is CCleaner still people's preferred computer cleaning app?

No

rem26_art, in What is good to eat when you have no appetite?

if you can find Miso Paste, or even instant Miso anywhere, that's usually one of my go to's. I'd stick to white miso cuz its more bland than awase or red miso. Just put like a tablespoon in a mug and put hot (not boiling) water over it and stir. It's yummy and got salt which might help you absorb water better and save off dehydration. Depending on where you live, you might find miso paste in the refrigerated section of the supermarket

Pair that with a hard boiled egg for a bit of protien and thats usually what I do.

Spacemanspliff,

Specifically the ‘healthy living’ and vegan section of the refrigerated section, usually near the kombucha and other fermented things.

you can put dried seaweed in it

nucleative, in What are Lemmy's unwritten rules?

Don’t comment on anything related to any conflicts immediately East of the Mediterranean lest you wish to be in an ad hominem “debate”.

This problem drives valuable content away from the site, unless the lurkers up/down vote based on the value of a contribution (and not their personal opinion) or the mods step in, which is still seemingly rare.

TechyDad,
@TechyDad@lemmy.world avatar

I frequent Lemmy, Mastodon, and Threads. I feel like this is true in any of the three. Occasionally, I’ll wade in, but more often than not I regret it.

This is especially true on Threads where the algorithm sees you arguing with someone saying X and then says “hey, you must want to see more posts that say X.” I finally realized that all I was doing was feeding the algorithm and stopped replying.

nucleative,

I made a comment that started with “the situation is complicated and neither side is blameless”

The first reply quoted that part and said if I didn’t agree with their obviously correct position then I must be an ******** (insert some slur)

Ok, thanks for the chat bud.

starelfsc2,

As a (sometimes) lurker, when I see a comment on the middle east I say “wow even if I studied this conflict I would still have trouble having an opinion here” and skip over it+the replies. I also can’t tell if the person said something so ridiculous that the ad hom isn’t out of line.

Timwi, in If many extraterrestrial civilizations were nearby but trying to keep quiet, how would you suggest drawing them out?
@Timwi@kbin.social avatar

Humans have shown time and time again in their history that they are expansionist, imperialistic assholes. For aliens to be spooked, we only need to show that tendency on a cosmic scale. If we start sending out probes or even manned missions to far away places that are barely likely to support life, we will instantly label ourselves as greedy conquerors. As soon as a colony of ours starts sending out new missions to create even more colonies, that's when all civilizations, even the less advanced, realize that we're the first stage of a cosmic cancer that must be nipped in the bud at all costs.

Bojangles is good, but they’re all over the south.

Southeast anyway

Bishma, in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?
@Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I enjoyed having a smartwatch back in the pebble days. I was kind of addicted to notifications (especially from datadog) at the time. My Pebble time made me feel less stressed because glancing at my watch was less effort than pulling out my phone.

Then Pebble was killed off, web-scale infrastructure became more reliable, and I learned to recover from my notification addiction. Now I’m happily watchless again.

dion_starfire,

Have you looked into Rebble? I’m still wearing my Time Steel as a daily driver. I’ve yet to find a newer smartwatch that hits all the features I care about.

mesamunefire, (edited )

Pebble was so nice back in the day.

Now I just wear a Casio and it will be my forever watch. They let you repair everything about the watch.

If we launched a rocket at them with our garbage, or maybe our political leaders.

cheese_greater, in What are some cool things you can do with Shortcuts on iOS?

This locks your phone when connected to power/device

  1. Create automation
  2. Trigger: when connected to power
  3. Action: Lock Screen
  4. Make sure ask before running (no) and notify when run (no)

You can pretty much do anything that you can dream up. The coolest thing I’ve seen was chatbit but looks like it’s servers are down. It was a chat program built inside iOS shortcuts.

routinehub.co for lots of awesome shortcuts.

morphballganon, in If many extraterrestrial civilizations were nearby but trying to keep quiet, how would you suggest drawing them out?

Certainly not destroying ourselves or our own planet. We’re already doing that.
