hperrin, in What are some tech predictions for 2024 that actually could happen?

I’m really hoping my email service gains more traction. People are so accustomed to crappy email providers that the current providers don’t really innovate anymore. I think it will actually have a chance of catching on, because it’s such a different way of doing email.

emmanuel_car,

Great concept, how do you fund it? I imagine running an email service isn’t cheap.

hperrin,

Right now I’m self funding it. I’m building out the enterprise features, like custom domains and domain user management, so I can start marketing to businesses. I’d like to be able to fund it to profitability without any outside investors.

It’s actually surprisingly affordable to run an email service. Right now my biggest expense is the MySQL server. With one server node plus one backup node I should be able to handle several hundred active users.

Pulpogarden, in The transition from the holiday season back to the normal drudgery is so depressing. Is there any way to make Jan / Feb less depressing?

Don’t get so excited about the end of the year?

teft, in What's your favorite Biopunk centered movie?
@teft@startrek.website avatar

Star Trek First Contact

hawgietonight, in Mickey Mouse is now public domain (Steamboat Willie specifically). What do you think we will see this year?

Minimal Tecno music videos

Nomecks, in If humans went extinct, what would the Earth look like one year later?

If you want to see how fast things erode all you need to do is pull up half of Detroit on Google Maps and flip through streetview photos a few years apart.

AtariDump, in What's something you'd like to leave behind in the old year and not carry into the new year?

Eating poorly and about 50 lbs / 22.68 kg / 3.571 stone / 8 hogsheads to the yard.

witchergeraltofrivia, (edited ) in If humans went extinct, what would the Earth look like one year later?

I like the idea of humans dissapearing.
From a neutral point of view, it’s too simple, one species in exchange for millions of other species and a planet.
Also on the universe scale, humans don’t really matter so no one cares except for us.

uriel238, in What's it called when a title has "or" in it followed by a different title?
@uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn is the true title. Those who didn’t get this title didn’t get the movie either.

spoon00, in Anyone who recently had a "Yup, it was that kinda day" day. What happened?

I went to open a can of frozen lemonade concentrate and the plastic strip holding the lid snapped off in the first 2 inches.

Persen, in what are your fun, low stakes new year resolutions?

1920x1080

maniel, in What movie or book had the biggest impact on you this year?
@maniel@lemmy.ml avatar

Started reading Hyperion, couldn’t finish it because of the Sol Weintraub story, it’s hard to read when you have kids

AteshgaRubyTeeth,

I finished it and read the sequel, loved the Shrike story line but there’s better scifi to read in my opinion.

braxy29,

i’m reading Hyperion now! just finished Kassad’s story. 😧

GreyShuck, in What movie or book had the biggest impact on you this year?
@GreyShuck@feddit.uk avatar

Finnegans Wake. I read it across the year with an online group. It was always on the edge of incomprehensibility - often well over the edge - but it definitely had a impact.

This year’s ‘big read’ will be the Chinese classic Romance of the Three Kingdoms I’m just about to make a start.

viking, in what are your fun, low stakes new year resolutions?
@viking@infosec.pub avatar

Low stakes would be getting back into a study routine, I want to improve my Norwegian. I’m quite proficient but plateaued at some point and stopped putting any effort in.

ClaireDeLuna, in WTF species of spider is this

We call them crab spiders in Florida

FluorideMind, in How to pull rocks out of pipe in the ground?

Air compressor with a skinny long nozzle.
