I’m really hoping my email service gains more traction. People are so accustomed to crappy email providers that the current providers don’t really innovate anymore. I think it will actually have a chance of catching on, because it’s such a different way of doing email.
Right now I’m self funding it. I’m building out the enterprise features, like custom domains and domain user management, so I can start marketing to businesses. I’d like to be able to fund it to profitability without any outside investors.
It’s actually surprisingly affordable to run an email service. Right now my biggest expense is the MySQL server. With one server node plus one backup node I should be able to handle several hundred active users.
If you want to see how fast things erode all you need to do is pull up half of Detroit on Google Maps and flip through streetview photos a few years apart.
I like the idea of humans dissapearing.
From a neutral point of view, it’s too simple, one species in exchange for millions of other species and a planet.
Also on the universe scale, humans don’t really matter so no one cares except for us.
Finnegans Wake. I read it across the year with an online group. It was always on the edge of incomprehensibility - often well over the edge - but it definitely had a impact.
This year’s ‘big read’ will be the Chinese classic Romance of the Three Kingdoms I’m just about to make a start.
Low stakes would be getting back into a study routine, I want to improve my Norwegian. I’m quite proficient but plateaued at some point and stopped putting any effort in.
