A lot of great shows mentioned. To add to the list of upbeat the gf and I are working our way through Modern Family. The early seasons are pretty upbeat and lighthearted. I do wonder where they will end up in the later seasons as the families age.
Working Moms is something the gf watches and what I’ve seen had been pretty great and has some good fun shock value. I’m surprised where they go with some of the humour. Usually only animated shows get away with this.
I would add Archer but I haven’t finished the last couple of seasons so I’m not sure where it ends up on the fun and outrageous scale.
Lots of good suggestions so far, but not seen The Great mentioned. Filthy AF and one of the few shows I laugh out loud to (well, more like cackle loudly). I’ll also second the suggestion for Better Off Ted.
Season one of The Great was, well, great. It was funny and interesting. But then it got dark AF. No spoilers, but it made me ugly cry at one point, then it just got depressing and boring.
How to with John Wilson, 30 Rock, Malcolm in the Middle, The Office, Nathan for You, Parks and Rec, Joe Pera Talks to You, Ted Lasso, Baskets (LOVE it, but can be a little sad and heartbreaking in addition to being hilarious and sweet)
Joe Pera and MITM definitely stand out to me on this list. Nathan as well but can be a little dry. Baskets is incredible but it does have it’s downer moments.
I found it really hard to get into. If I had something else I wanted to watch I wouldn’t have started season 2. By the time it ended I was hoping for just one more season.
Halfway through the second season it turns away from it. It goes on longer than it should before he starts to develop as a character. It gets a little bit more comfortable after that with enough plot points to keep you engaged. At some point you might cry. Jason Sudekis is good.
But if I understand you correctly you have a load and loads of stuff? How do you deal with it?
I mean, awhile ago I shazamed songs I liked and I got everything they ever produced and got cluttered up. It’s not the disk space but I don’t have the time to classify it all (in some perfect way) and I don’t even have a way to classify songs, some are good but only in a party setting, but another is both for a party setting, a long car ride and for outdoor business etc etc.
Oh, yeah, classification takes some time. I classify by style (Pop, Rock, Metal, Techno, etc.). And I have 2 different “classification directories”, lol 😂. One is for albums/compilations. They are also sorted by style, but there are whole albums. The other one is with singles (like single tracks, not singles as in releases, lol 😂). Like, let’s say I like just 1 track from a certain artist and I don’t think anything else is worth it from that album (or EP, whatever). I download the whole thing, then delete everything else and just keep that 1 single track. So, let’s say this artist is a pop artist. I have a folder named Pop + Hip-Hop + House + Etc. and I just put it in there 😂. There’s like thousands of tracks there 😂.
So, let’s say I’m in the mood for something specific. I know where it resides, whether it be a whole album or a single track in the “randomness” directories (😂), I find it and I play it. If I’m just in a mood for music, in general, nothing specific, I usually just load the Pop + … directory in the playlist, set random and just hit play. Something I don’t like pops up, I just hit next 🤷.
I hope I helped. Sorting by style is what works for me 🤷. Sure, it’s not perfect, but I really don’t see any other sort style as better than that.
Ah, that’s why I search before I download anything 🤣. Plus, I got a good memeory (only regarding songs for some reason 🤔 😂), so I rarely end up with dups.
And I do tag them after I download them… well, retag them, they’ve already been tagged by whoever 😂.
It’s a self-hosted music streaming service, based on the subsonic protocol. I set it up with an nginx reverse proxy so I’m able to access it from many compatible apps without a VPN, I use Symfonium on my phone and the integrated web UI on my computer.
While I primarily use streaming services, I almost always still buy albums on Bandcamp for the day when I need to go back to running my own music. You can save up for a Bandcamp Friday when more goes to the artist. Bandcamp has been the best place for music for awhile. Best to get in before Songtradr continues the destruction Epic started.
I pirate. I buy only what I really really like, and I’d like to have a hard copy (CD, vinyl), not digital download. If there is only digital download available, I pirate it.
I’d say their main goal is to keep managers busy with something to prevent them from hindering work that needs to be done to keep the place running. ;)
I’m not missing anything having experienced it both in the original time and now. People mostly no longer play it for the fun of it at end game, they have to “make everything worth their time” because the experience itself isn’t enough for them anymore.
That makes it a very different overall experience to play and not the same game at all. It’s very toxic in fact like a lot of modern multiplayer games can be these days unfortunately.
It actually does look super interesting! Like I said, I’m not really into the classic servers, but that Season just might get me. It looks like it can be really fun with the right crowd.
I don’t suppose you’ve tried the “DJ” feature? It’s usually pretty good for me, but of course your mileage may vary.
I’ve run into the same problem of the shuffle (and “smart” shuffle) just plays the exact same thing all the time, even in a playlist with thousands of songs. Tried out YouTube music for a while, and it’s not much better. So I’ll be interested in what others say here.
The best one for me a long time ago was Pandora - for some reason I was under the impression they weren’t around anymore, but it looks like they are. But, I don’t know if they are still as great as they were back then.
What is the “DJ” feature you’re referring to? I don’t see that in my app.
Edit: Found it by going to home > music
The obnoxious voice that talks to you every few songs is irritating as fuck, though. I wish it would just silently change genres instead of talking to me it’s a person and interrupting my music.
It’s an AI feature from them that is supposed to play music based off numerous factors, primarily by what you’ve been listening to recently. It also tries to mix in music that is related to what you’re listening to as well, but haven’t heard before. But as Spuddlesv2 mentioned below, it sometimes does play music that is out of that - doesn’t happen too often to me but when it does, you can click the DJ icon (the queue button becomes the DJ button) and it’ll “change it up”. It also uses a dynamically AI generated voice based on their “Head of Cultural Partnerships, Xavier ‘X’ Jernigan” and talks to you the way you’d expect a DJ to if they were playing for you personally whenever its moving to a different set of music. I’m not sure what regions its available in, but if its available in your region (and you’re a Spotify Premium member) you’ll see it as a playlist option, and generally on the homescreen as well.
Here’s a link to Spotify’s initial newsroom article on it. And over on this article from August at the bottom they list the markets/regions its available in. If you’re in both an eligible “market” and you have Premium but still don’t see it, perhaps your app might be out of date? Try launching their Web UI as once you have selected it for the first time, it should appear in the recents area.
I was enjoying the DJ feature until it started cramming in top 40 shite into my mix that doesn’t even come close to resembling anything I would ever listen to. And not just one song - usually three or four in a row. I used to love Pandora’s shuffle play feature but it’s no longer available in my country.
I will say I went from a place that had these meetings to one that doesn’t. It’s more concerning when leadership doesn’t seem to have any plan at all, even if the plan is “do a good job and sell this much of this thing”.
It seems most people are complaining about when Spotify plays random stuff it thinks you like, but I’m having the same issue with my actual created playlist. I’ve carefully gathered and downloaded all my favorite songs into a playlist that has about 3 days worth of music on it… Yet it plays the same 100-200 or so songs no matter what, even on shuffle. I’m pretty sure most songs in this list have never been played. Very irritating
That’s because Spotify shuffle by default is not a simple true randomizer as most would expect. It tries to be “smart” and mixes your playlist so similar songs play after another, while avoiding playing songs from the same artists back to back. And some more variables. In theory this is great and works well for some users and focused playlists, but can ruin playlists that cover a very wide range of genres and styles.
You can better approach true randomness by disabling the “Automix” feature in Spotify settings. Not entirely sure if you then actually get true randomness (Spotify loves being opaque), but I hope it helps with your playlist at least.
I would love if they made some enthusiast options available so we could customize our own Automix and shuffle preferences, but that will never happen…
i just preshuffle my playlist using a playlist shuffler website and then go in the order its shuffled. just got to remember what song you left off on, that way every song gets played at least once
Yeah we were gifted some here in Aus. Afraid I don’t get the bourbon thing. I’m a whisky girl but bourbon just tastes… Wrong? We have another really nice bottle of it (name escapes me) that we were also gifted. I’m afraid to open it in case I hate it.
