naevaTheRat, in Seeking Perspectives: Trans Athletes in Women's Sports

This question is loaded. Trans women are not really biologically male, depending on the time transition happened there will be varying degrees of masculinised secondary sex characteristics but things such as fat distribution, muscle mass, organ size changes etc are going to look much more “standard” female than male.

AFAB women aren’t excluded from sport if they’re unusually tall, or have PCOS, or some other hormone variation that leads to an advantage. Women with PCOS will have an advantage in sport involving strength because they have much higher levels of testosterone (some grow patchy beards ffs) but nobody makes a fuss over that.

All sport is inherently unfair, we try and set limits of degree of unfairness. There is no evidence that trans women have more advantages than all the usual variations in women we allow competition among without issue. The Olympics has allowed trans competitors since 2004, where are all the trans gold medalists? where are all the trans women winning everything? Have you seen the differences in male and female records for most sports? If trans women are meaningfully similar to men then the average trans women would just demolish many sports. This doesn’t happen, only a few people have attracted attention for success and that’s in an environment of media controversy with actively trying to seek them out.

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/08f80901-0203-4a31-bc6a-d06cc617bcd7.png

that’s how.

one of the 3 LEDs can have 256 levels of brightness (off included)

take that to the power of three, and you have 16 million colours.

but no mortal can actually tell the difference between 255, 255, 255 and 255, 254, 255.

Yeah, essentially the same sourcery behind every pixel of any modern display. The bulb is one pixel.

So… Wait… Does this mean thousands of Hue bulbs can be a display screen? Has this been done?

KpntAutismus,

those really huge displays are often millions of individual RGB LEDs. it would just be a software nightmare to do with hue bulbs.

You can see some slight shifts even at 24-bit depth, if side-by-side. It produces a faint-but-visible banding.

Here’s an example (suggesting use of dithering to obscure it):

Leaving Islam, I know this comment will spark some debate, which is pointless ( to me at least )… So fingers crossed nothing will happen

Muslims often say: “oh, so you’re an atheist!, tell us where do you get your morals?” And “Oh, you left Islam so you can live a life of sin, drinking alcohol and having sex with tons of people”…

The irony is that the reason you leave Islam ( or any other “organized” cult ) is because of your intact moral compass, you’re against violence ( murder and war ), homophobia, sexism, pedophilia, racism, slavery, genital mutilation, you’re against fear, control, indoctrination… And the list goes on… And even if it was true, I left Islam to live a life of sin, the prize of winning in Islam, is to live an internal life of sin in heaven so… 👉👈

I live in a Muslim country, and It’s safe to say ( not out loud, if you know what I mean ) that the only reason people here are muslims is because they’re indoctrinated, from birth… you hear the same arguments, the same logical fallacies, the same pathetic biases … from every person, that’s why I said it’s pointless…

It’s sad, to live undercover with “friends” and “family” who will let you go if they knew the real you, and it’s really a lonely life, and it gets even lonelier because I’m fucking gay, I used to think, not so much, but I thought of going back and trying to fit in, try to be like everyone else, maybe If I can live in a broken system, I’ll stop seeing how broken it is… But I can’t, and I won’t, it’s just doesn’t work like that, once you’re awakened, you can’t go back to sleep.

So, I’m proud because I feel like I’m a better human being, because when I look around and see Muslims praying on the downfall of Jews and Christians, ( and I don’t know about Christians and Jews so don’t ask me, I would say probably the same lol… 😂, they all hate each other…) When I see that, I see how religion divides us ( “in order to rule us” … Like Mr Robot said ) and how much hate people carry because of such beliefs

squigglycunt,

amen (haha) to that brother

CompostMaterial, in So is the US slipping into Civil War?

Those states are going to be in a rude awakening when they realize they are broke because the blue states are by far the largest contributors to federal funding. When they cut that off, the welfare state will come crawling back quickly.

xorollo,

The welfare states regularly turn down federal funding because they do not care about the lower income portions of their state. Alabama will just have fewer people able to feed their selves.

Adulated_Aspersion,

Which they will blame on the blue states.

PutangInaMo,

Texas gets $53,000,000,000 in federal funding every year. They’ll cave.

simple, (edited ) in discord vs guilded vs revolt vs element/matrix what is your favorite?

Discord. The user experience there is just better than all the competition regardless if you like FOSS alternatives more. It’s clean, it’s fast, it’s feature rich and works well.

but before the enshittification of discord mobile

Never understood this. The new app is a big improvement and you can now easily swap between servers, notifications, and DMs in the bottom row rather than having to scroll all the way up in your server list.

jao,
@jao@lemy.lol avatar

I was using the “sparkle✨️” UI. It was way better than the current UI. It had moved the server sidebar to the bottom of the screen, like a dock. I miss it. I am no longer able to use Discord one-handed. The UI update removed it from the app.

darganon,

Discord has and will always be trash, it’s just that they do everything okay, and nothing good. I suppose bots are cool.

Also, nobody in the history of the world has wanted to swipe a message to the right to reply.

justJanne,

Fast? Clean? The new app is a stuttery, cluttered mess with more ad popups than a 2010 video streaming site and more framedrops than crysis. Until a few days ago I still used the oooold app and it was much better.

Zak,
@Zak@lemmy.world avatar

It has ads? I guess my adblocker works then.

justJanne, (edited )

4 different “buy nitro” “try new animated stickers” “have you bought a new profile background yet?” popups at the same time are also ads.

spiderman,

using clients like vendetta makes discord little better in android

B1naryB0t, (edited )

Similarly, for desktop, vencord

Pyroglyph,
@Pyroglyph@lemmy.world avatar

The new app requires more effort to perform basic actions.

As a daily user, I don’t care what other benefits it may provide. If using the app becomes more difficult, it’s a bad update. End of.

infinitevalence, in How do Hue Bulbs do millions of different colors, what sorcery is this?

By combining Red, Blue, and Green LEDs.

Each color gets it’s own value and when you combine them all you get a district color value.

In 2007, I, a non-white non-Korean, took a job in South Korea. Then, I took another. Then, at the third job, I was hired, but the owner’s brother was amenable to some of the more racist thoughts that guided the approach to business in SK. He thought I would hurt the business. He resisted hiring another non-white, non-Korean.

The owner asked me to write a letter. Instead of saying, “that’s not my job”, I wrote the letter. I made the case. They hired another non-white, non-Korean after me.

I’m still pretty proud of that letter.
